Devin Lloyd could fit right into glaring need for a new Cowboys LB

Tyler Browning (@DiabeticTyler) puts the talented Utah linebacker under the microscope. Can he be LVEs replacement? Where does he fit with the Dallas Cowboys?

The Cowboys wouldn’t go back-to-back linebackers in the first round, would they? Utah star linebacker Devin Lloyd may just be worth that level of investment at the position. The two-time First-Team All-Pac 12 backer was also the winner of the Pat Tillman Defensive Player of the Year and was an AP Consensus All-American.

If there’s a player who’s worth doubling up on to match with Micah Parsons, Lloyd certainly has the bona fides to warrant such a move. Lloyd redshirted his freshman year then appeared in limited fashion over three games in 2018. Ever since he’s been lights out. But does that production mean that he’ll be a star in the pros? Would he be right for Dallas? A closer look at the situation is in order.

Georgia’s Jordan Davis is the prospect to make Cowboys care about stopping run

Can the Cowboys force themselves to doing something to stop the run? Will they get the chance? @DiabeticTyler looks into the biggest Bulldog.

Just like the safety position, the Dallas Cowboys have long ignored the interior of their defensive line. They tried to address with the free agent signing of Brent Urban this past off season, but he had a very minimal impact before his season ended with him being placed on Injury Reserve. Should the Cowboys explore a more long term answer for the run-stuffing defensive tackle role?

Georgia defensive tackle Jordan Davis is a monster in the run game, but leaves more to be desired in the pass rush department. But with Demarcus Lawrence (if he stays), Randy Gregory (if he returns), Micah Parsons, Neville Gallimore and Osa Odighizuwa the Cowboys might have the pass-rush part of their defensive line sorted out. Would they finally be willing to take the long-needed 1-tech or 0-tech?

Davis is a mountain of a man and often dwarfs those he stands next to, even big-boy teammate Devonte Wyatt.

Georgia’s Devonte Wyatt could be diverse interior presence for Cowboys

Tyler Browning ( @DiabeticTyler ) puts the talented Georgia Interior defensive lineman under the microscope. Can he be fill a long void? Does he fit with the Cowboys?

Georgia defensive lineman Devonte Wyatt is a player I have long been enamored with. He’s versatile, and wins with both explosion and establishing leverage. He can two gap and help improve this middle of the road run defense, and he bring pass-rushing upside. He can align anywhere from 0-tech to 5-tech and win the rep.

Not too long after he and his Bulldog teammates hoisted the national champion trophy with their victory over Alabama, the Decatur, GA native thanked his teammates and coaching staff for the journey and began his preparation for the NFL draft. The former Hutchinson Community College transfer played four seasons in Athens, and may just be the perfect Day 2 pickup for a team that likes to find their premiere talent through the draft.

Cowboys 2021 Draft Debate: Cornerbacks Ifeatu Melifonwu vs Elijah Molden

Dalton Miller and Mike Crum debate which cornerback is better for the Dallas Cowboys between cornerbacks Ifeatu Melifonwu and Elijah Molden

The Dallas Cowboys defense had multiple practice squad players getting major snaps in the defensive backfield last season, including Saivion Smith, Rashad Robinson, Steven Parker and Deante Burton. The team already needed depth before Chidobe Awuzie signed with the Cincinnati Bengals in free agency.

Whether in the draft or by signing a vet in free agency, or preferably both, Dallas still needs to go after cornerback in the remaining offseason. The current question for the Cowboys is which prospects should they target? This is a recurring series of debate on which of two prospects is the best fit for the Cowboys. This edition will feature Syracuse CB Ifeatu Melifonwu and Washington CB Elijah Molden and will feature former Cowboys Wire contributor Dalton Miller, now of 105.3 the Fan.

Molden stands 5-foot-10 and weighs 192 pounds. The Washington Huskies only played four games in 2020, but in that time Molden was able to be productive, totalling 26 tackles (including one for a loss), an interception and a pass deflection.

Melifonwu is a much bigger player, standing at 6-foot-2, and weighs in at 212 pounds. In 10 games he had 54 tackles (three for loss), a sack, an interception and six pass deflections.

So who fits better? Let the debate begin.
