Trump hosts Washington Nationals players for a round of golf

Pitcher Patrick Corbin and first baseman Ryan Zimmerman were among those who visited President Trump in West Palm Beach.

The Washington Nationals and President Donald Trump share more than just an address in the nation’s capital.

They both have a second home in West Palm Beach, Florida.

For the Nationals, it’s where they have their spring training complex. It’s also where the Trump International Golf Club is located.

On Sunday, several Nationals players joined the president for a round of golf. According to a series of photos shared on Instagram by pitcher Patrick Corbin, the group also included first baseman Ryan Zimmerman, shortstop Trea Turner, reliever Daniel Hudson and catcher Kurt Suzuki, who donned a Make America Great hat when Trump hosted the World Series champions at a White House ceremony last November.

Also in attendance on Sunday: former Nationals outfielder Jayson Werth, who attended Trump’s 2018 State of the Union address.

Annika Sorenstam and Gary Player will receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Donald J. Trump on March 23.

The two legends join Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Charlie Sifford and Tiger Woods as the only golfers who have received the honor.

The award is the nation’s highest civilian honor and is given to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the security or national interests of America, to world peace, or to cultural or other significant public or private endeavors. Notable recipients include Muhammad Ali, Nancy Reagan, Mother Teresa, Billy Graham, Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King, Jr.

“I am extremely honored to have been chosen to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom,” said Sorenstam in a tweet. This is America’s highest civilian honor and certainly the most distinguished honor I’ve ever received. I am enormously grateful to the president for this honor and all it represents to me, to my family, to the LPGA and the Annika Foundation. I am proud to be the first female athlete who is a naturalized American citizen to be recognized in this way. It is an overwhelming feeling. I am grateful, I am humbled, I am moved, and I am blessed.”

Sorenstam, 49, won 72 times on the LPGA, including 10 majors. The eight-time LPGA Player of the Year was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2003. She’s the only player in LPGA history to card a 59.

Born near Stockholm, Sweden, Sorenstam, won the 2006 U.S. Women’s Open title, her third, 19 days after she was sworn in as an American citizen at a ceremony in Orlando, Florida. Back then, Sorenstam said that she kept the American flag the government gave her on Flag Day displayed in her kitchen, a most beloved spot for a woman who authored a cookbook.

It’s no secret President Donald Trump loves to play golf.

President Trump awarded Tiger Woods the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor, and has teed it up with Woods, as well as Jack Nicklaus, Dustin Johnson, PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan and Augusta National chairman Fred Ridley, Lexi Thompson and many, many others.

Add former World No. 1 and current No. 3 Brooks Koepka to that list.

In a profile in GQ, Koepka opened up about his love for golf, what he would change about the sport and his relationship – or lack thereof – with other players. He also talked about a recent round with President Trump.

Koepka, his father, younger brother Chase and President Trump “had a blast” at Trump’s course in West Palm Beach.

“It was nice to have my family there, my dad, my brother. Anytime it’s with a president, it’s pretty cool,” said Koepka. “I don’t care what your political beliefs are, it’s the President of the United States. It’s an honor that he even wanted to play with me.”

“I respect the office, I don’t care who it is,” added Koepka. “Still probably the most powerful man in the entire world. It’s a respect thing.”

In fact, Koepka has met four of the five living U.S. presidents, including President Barack Obama at Floridian Golf Club in Palm City, Florida.

“I don’t care what anybody says — that was the coolest thing,” said Koepka. “Not to get into politics — like, I don’t agree with everything that Obama did during his presidency — but to this day, I think that it was the coolest thing ever. Top five highlights of my life so far, that was one of them. Meeting him as a sitting U.S. president.”

President Donald J. Trump tweets congratulations to people of State of Kansas

President Trump congratulated the people of Kansas, though the Chiefs are from Missouri.

President Donald J. Trump got the team right. So, that’s to his credit. However, he somehow missed the correct state the Kansas City Chiefs play in when he offered congratulations Sunday after their victory in Super Bowl LIV. Trump sent his best wishes to the people of the Great State of Kansas in a tweet. The people of Missouri would like to show him where Arrowhead Stadium and the Chiefs’ home actually is, no doubt.

Trump apparently realized his mistake, or someone around him did, as he deleted the tweet a few minutes later.

Report: Super Bowl to feature $20M worth of commercials for President Trump, Michael Bloomberg

According to a New York Post report, President Trump and Michael Bloomberg are spending millions on Super Bowl ads.

There are millions and millions, as The Rock says, of dollars spent around the Super Bowl. So, it should be of no surprise that about $20 million of them — at least — will come from a pair of the 2020 Presidential candidates.

The New York Post reports Democratic candidate Michael Bloomberg, who is seeking is party’s nomination, will spend some of his billions — $10 million — for a 60-second commercial during the big game on Feb. 2.

“When the Trump campaign decided to run an ad during the big game, the Bloomberg campaign responded by buying a spot. Mike is taking the fight to Trump,” Bloomberg spokesman Michael Frazier said to the paper. “Trump is reportedly running a 30-second ad. Bloomberg opted for more impact and more time with 60 seconds,” he added.

The President’s campaign doused the Bloomberg boast … quickly.

“We have been in discussions with Fox since the fall and reserved time in December,” Trump campaign spokesman Tim Murtaugh told the Post. “We paid for the ad last week. We bought 60 seconds of time.”

Added Murtaugh, “We got in early, which gave us prime ad position early in the game.”

President Donald Trump tweeted congratulations to the American team for winning the 2019 Presidents Cup.

“Congratulations to Tiger and the entire U.S. Team on a great comeback and tremendous WIN. True Champions.”

Trump spent part of his day at the Army-Navy football game in Philadelphia.

Tiger Woods and his U.S. contingent rallied from a 10-8 deficit at the beginning of the Sunday singles matches at Royal Melbourne in Australia to win the Cup.

The U.S. is now 11-1-1 all-time in the biennial match against the Internationals.

Playing captain Woods led by example, putting himself in the leadoff position and then delivering with a 3-and-2 victory over spirited, pesky Abraham Ancer. Then his red, white and blue charges followed suit.

The president and Woods have played golf together. In May, Woods received the Presidential Medal of Freedom at the White House.
