Auburn Softball Player Profile: Maddie Penta

As the 2024 softball season looms closer, take a look at the numbers posted by Auburn’s ace pitcher, Maddie Penta.

Auburn softball is set to start in just a matter of days, and the Tigers are looking to make it back in the NCAA Tournament again this year after they made their third-straight regional appearance in 2023.

Entering his seventh year on the Plains, head coach [autotag]Mickey Dean[/autotag] is looking to coach his team to another new high in wins under his tenure after Auburn was victorious in 43 games last season.

As we prepare for Opening Day, we highlight the career of senior pitcher [autotag]Maddie Penta[/autotag], who has been a leader and staple in Auburn softball. She has been one of the top pitchers in the nation over the course of her career, and had arguably her best performance last season.

Here is a look at Maddie Penta’s career numbers:

Going into the 2023 football season, Auburn Wire will be looking at each scholarship player listed on the Tigers’ roster.

Up next is tight end [autotag]Micah Riley[/autotag]. He is looking to carve out a role in a room that is full of veterans.

Depth Chart Overview

Riley was listed as Auburn’s third-string tight end on Auburn’s initial depth chart but he could certainly move up due to his ability to be a threat in the receiving game and blocking. While that’s possible, it seems more likely that he is someone who could be set to make a push to start in the 2024 season and moving forward.

Wright has had an interesting career after coming to Auburn as a member of the 2020 recruiting class. He moved over to the defensive line as a freshman and looked to be a breakout player as a sophomore before an injury ended his season in camp.

He was moved back to the offensive line last season and excelled at creating holes for Auburn’s running backs. Wright has been battling to be the starting left guard and is now competing with [autotag]Gunner Britton[/autotag].

He has had a solid fall and spring camp session and even if he doesn’t win the starting job he should see plenty of action, especially when Auburn is looking to run the ball.

Lew was one of the standouts of spring practice and that has carried over into fall camp. With Jones being the top option at center for the 2023 season, Lew has been getting reps at guard and if anyone goes down he could factor into the rotation at guard. That could be key as he projects as Auburn’s top center for next season.

“Too Tall” has had a great fall camp and is not surging for a starting spot.

Over the preseason, each profile will cover where the player is from, how recruiting websites rated them coming out of high school, and what role they will play for [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] in his first season on the Plains.

Up next is former JUCO standout Izavion “Too Tall” Miller who has had a phenomenal fall camp. He is pushing for a starting job and could be forcing some last-minute changes to Auburn’s starting offensive line.

Miller has been one of the stars of fall camp and Freeze recently said that they “couldn’t keep him off the field.” This caused Miller to slide into the starting lineup and move presumed starter [autotag]Gunner Britton[/autotag] to left guard.

With less than two weeks until the start of the season, it will be interesting to see how this battle plays out and if it carries into the season. Even if Miller doesn’t win the job, if the offensive line struggles they could end up inserting him at right tackle allowing them to slide Britton to another spot if needed.

Jones was one of the best offensive linemen available in the transfer portal this season and was a major get for Freeze and the Tigers. He quickly locked down the starting job and is looking to be a key reason for the unit’s improvement.

With several transfers expected to start, it will be important for the room to gel and become a cohesive unit. Having a proven veteran like Jones in the middle will be critical and should help the entire offense.

He spent the last three seasons at Tulsa and his familiarity with offensive coordinator [autotag]Phillip Montgomery[/autotag] will help the Tigers get adjusted to the new system.

Muskrat played right tackle for Tulsa last season but he has the ability to play tackle or guard for the Tigers and while he may not win a starting battle at either spot, he provides essential depth and is someone the coaches can plug in if needed.

Stutts started 11 games last season for the Tigers but is back in a stiff competition to return as a starter with Auburn rotating him, [autotag]Jaden Muskrat[/autotag], [autotag]Jeremiah Wright[/autotag] and [autotag]Tate Johnson[/autotag] at the two guard spots.

He appears to have separated himself as the favorite to win the starting right guard spot but Muskrat is still pushing him. Stutts is capable of playing both spots and is an important member of the offensive line group due to his extensive experience and versatilty.

Harris did not see the field in his first season on the Plains and there is a chance that happens again in 2023. That doesn’t mean his development is behind, it just takes time for offensive linemen to adjust to college and he is getting valuable reps at guard.

He will have a chance to compete for a bigger role for the 2024 season and move forward as he continues to grow his game.
