Florida basketball narrowly favored at Missouri Tigers by ESPN’s BPI

Good news for Gators fans! Florida is slightly favored on the road at Missouri this Saturday night.

Florida basketball is in dire need of another Southeastern Conference win after starting the calendar year 1-3. Further exacerbating the Gators’ issues is their inability to play outside of the O’Connell Center, with five of their six losses coming away from Gainesville.

The good news is that Todd Golden’s next opponent looks to be ripe for the pickings… if his team can get their act together on the road. The Missouri Tigers are just 8-9 overall and winless in four tries against SEC competition while going just 6-4 at home so far.

Using the Basketball Power Index, ESPN is giving the Gators 58.0% odds to come out on top by a projected 2.2 points over the Tigers. The matchup quality earned an 83.9-point grade, putting it in the top fifth of the games being played on Saturday.

“BPI is a measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of performance going forward,” the site reads. “BPI represents how many points above or below average a team is… Game predictions account for opponent strength, pace of play, site, travel distance, day’s rest and altitude, and are used to simulate the season 10,000 times to produce season projections.”

The game will be of the Quadrant 2 variety for Florida, which is ranked No. 52 in the NET rankings on Thursday before the game as well as for Missouri, which is ranked No. 117.

Florida travels to Columbia, Missouri, to take on the Tigers on Saturday, Jan. 20. Tipoff is slated for a late 8 p.m. ET start and will be broadcast on ESPNU.

Lee Corso makes his pick for the Rose Bowl CFP semifinal

Lee Corso makes his official pick between No. 1 Michigan and No. 4 Alabama in the Rose Bowl College Football Playoff semifinal.

By the end of tonight, we will know which two teams will be competing for a national championship. The first College Football Playoff semifinal is the Rose Bowl between top-ranked Michigan and No. 4 Alabama. ESPN’s College GameDay was broadcasting live from Pasadena, California, the home of the historic Rose Bowl Stadium.

While many have tried their best to guess who wins and what the score will be between the Wolverines and the Crimson Tide, Lee Corso was confident in his weekly headgear pick for the Rose Bowl.

Alabama fans may want to look away, but Corso is picking against the Tide and is rolling with Jim Harbaugh and Michigan. It’s worth noting that of all four teams in the playoffs this season, only one team is new to the playoffs (Texas), and only one has ever won a playoff game (Alabama).

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Alabama and Michigan kick things off at the Rose Bowl at 5:00 p.m. ET on ESPN.

Basketball Power Index prediction for Florida vs. Grambling State

ESPN’s BPI expects a blowout on Friday afternoon between the Gators and Tigers.

Florida basketball is set to face the Grambling State Tigers back in the comfortable confines of the O’Connell Center in Gainesville, Florida, Friday afternoon as the Gators look to keep their perfect Dember intact with two non-conference games remaining.

Using the Basketball Power Index, ESPN is giving Florida 98.7% odds to come out on top by a projected 28 points. The game’s matchup quality rating of 45.1 is in the lower middle of the pack among Friday’s games.

The Tigers are currently mired in an eight-game losing streak, with its latest defeat coming from the hands of the Southeastern Lousiana Lions by one point, 47-48.

Grambling State has eclipsed the 80-point mark just twice this season — against the North Texas Mean Green on the road and Champion Christian College at home. Otherwise, the Tigers have taken a beating from the likes of Colorado and Iowa State.

Tipoff between the Gators and Tigers is set for 4 p.m. ET inside the O’Dome and the game can be watched on the SEC Network+.

Predicting the Broncos’ 3 remaining games and final record

Can the Broncos win out and make the NFL playoffs? Here are our score predictions for the final three games of the regular season.

The Denver Broncos stand at 7-7 going into Week 16 of the 2023 NFL season. With three games remaining, the Broncos will likely have to win out to qualify for the NFL playoffs.

Can they do it? Below, Broncos Wire staff writers give their score predictions for the Denver’s final games of the regular season.

Florida basketball strongly favored over East Carolina by ESPN’s BPI

The Gators shouldn’t have too much trouble with their next opponent and hopefully uses the game to prepare for Michigan next week.

Florida basketball earned a solid win against the Richmond Spiders in the Orange Bowl Classic on Saturday, giving the Gators two-straight wins while making them 2-0 so far in December with a 6-3 record overall.

Next up for the Orange and Blue are the East Carolina Pirates, who will face off with Todd Golden’s gang in Lakeland, Florida, for this year’s Florida Tip-Off on Dec. 14. The matchup should give the Orange and Blue a chance to calibrate before facing the Michigan Wolverines in the following game on Dec. 19.

According to ESPN’s Basketball Power Index predictions, the Gators have an 89.6% chance of earning the victory with a predicted 14.6-point differential. The matchup quality, however, has a measly 59.7-point value (out of 100), which is still good enough for the second-best matchup of the evening.

The Gators are ranked No. 43 in the NET rankings after the win over the Spiders while the Pirates are ranked No. 266 as of Monday, demonstrating a significant disparity between the two teams. East Carolina comes into the game at 6-4 after losing to the South Carolina Gamecocks last Saturday.

Thursday night’s game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. ET and the game will be broadcast on the SEC Network.

Predicting the Broncos’ 5 remaining games and final record

Can the Broncos win four of their last five games and (hypothetically) make the NFL playoffs with a 10-7 record? Check out our predictions!

If the Denver Broncos are going to make the playoffs this season, they will likely have to finish the year with at least 10 wins. There’s no guarantee that a 10-7 record would ensure a playoff spot, but that record would have secured a Wild Card position in 2022.

To get to 10-7, Denver would need to win four of its five remaining games. Can they do it? Below, Broncos Wire staff writers give their score predictions for the team’s final games of the regular season.

ESPN’s BPI prediction for Florida vs. Merrimack Warriors on Tuesday

Here are the BPI numbers ahead of Wednesday night’s men’s basketball game.

Todd Golden and the Florida men’s basketball team host the Merrimack Warriors this coming Tuesday, Dec. 5, inside the O’Connell Center for the eighth game of the young 2023-24 schedule.

So far, the Gators have looked solid but it has not always shown up in the final score. While this team was ostensibly rebuilt from the ground up after last year’s roster departed en mass, the Orange and Blue have only been at full strength for a game and change. It began the year with Zion Pullin suspended for three games followed by an injury to Micah Handgloten.

Nonetheless, the non-conference schedule continues with the Warriors paying a visit to Gainesville for a midweek tangle. Ahead of the game, ESPN published its BPI predictions for the college basketball slate, including this one.

The BPI gives the game a 53.4 (out of 100) matchup quality rating — putting it in the middle of the pack that day — with Florida holding a 95% chance of winning and the projected margin sitting at 20.2 points.

Tipoff for Florida vs. Merrimack is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET and the game will be broadcast on the SEC Network+.
