Philadelphia 76ers at Portland Trail Blazers odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Thursday’s Philadelphia 76ers at Portland Trail Blazers NBA odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The Philadelphia 76ers (18-7) stop by the Moda Center for a 10 p.m. ET tip-off against the Portland Trail Blazers (13-10). Below, we analyze the 76ers-Trail Blazers NBA odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Philadelphia has been one of the hotter teams in the league, winning two in a row and five of its last six games (4-1-1 ATS). That lone loss was to these Trail Blazers sub-MVP-candidate Damian Lillard 121-105 last Thursday.

Portland won the first home game, 106-97, over the Orlando Magic following a six-game road trip. Including that road trip, the Trail Blazers are 4-3 overall and 5-2 ATS in their previous seven games.

These teams were tied entering the second half in the first meeting before the 76ers turned the ball over nine times in a third quarter they outscored 40-19. Portland has won two straight over Philadelphia, five of its past six and is 5-1-0 ATS in those games.

PASS because I’m on Philadelphia but taking 76ers (-225) to win outright is bad ROI.

Against the spread (ATS)

Both teams were without its All-Star point guards, but Philadelphia was way more out of sync without Ben Simmons than Portland with Lillard.

And even though Simmons is considered one of the best defenders in basketball, the on-off numbers show that his presence is more important to Philadelphia’s offense.

Simmons is in the 94th percentile in team points per possession and the 100th percentile in team effective field goal shooting while on the floor, according to CleaningTheGlass.com.

The 76ers were minus-seven in turnovers in their previous meeting with the Trail Blazers, and everyone aside from MVP contender Joel Embiid struggled offensively. It also didn’t help that 76ers SG Seth Curry exited the game in the first half because he felt ill.

When you combine the motivation Philadelphia should have to beat a Portland team that has its number recently with Simmons and Curry being good to go and the Trail Blazers having no answer for Embiid, it equals a BET on 76ERS -5.5 (-110) for 1 unit.

Over/Under (O/U)

Philadelphia is due for a bounce-back effort offensively after its stinker in the last game against Portland, and the Trail Blazers have scored at least 121 points in their last five games against the 76ers.

Also, Lillard has put Portland on his back since McCollum went out of the lineup back Jan. 18. In his nine games played over that span, Lillard is averaging 32 points on .471/.408/.944 shooting with 7.6 assists per game. While Philadelphia’s defense is formidable, I think Portland brings enough offense to help this game get well into the mid-230s.

TAKE OVER 229.5 (-110) for a half-unit.
