If you ever wanted to own a bakery, The Gingered Peach is likely the place you dreamed of opening.

It’s cute in a professional, someone-has-given-thought-to-this kind of way.

But the star of the show is the bakery counter. It showcases the sweet, the savory, and a lot of twists on the usual. The pistachio chocolate croissants, for example, which offers a healthy amount of pistachio nuts instead of the usual almonds (although they have those, too).

Then there is what they call their “tribute to the city that makes!” It’s the Trenton Volcano, a brioche bun “stuffed with Case’s pork roll, spinach, cheddar, swiss and topped with everything bagel seasoning.” It’s truly a treat, especially for homegrown folk who know their pork roll.

Prepare for a line out the door in the morning, and be patient, since you, too, will want time to peruse the selections. Of course, the regulars know what they want: popular items include the zucchini bread and cinnamon rolls.

Be sure to finish off your selections with a taste of Caramel Crack. If you weren’t already prepared to go back, this will do it. And now, if you live anywhere Lawrenceville, NJ, you don’t have to open your own bakery. Just frequent the Ginger Peach!

Taylor Ham or Pork Roll? Greg Schiano answers the question

Rutgers football head coach Greg Schiano weighs in on the Taylor Ham versus pork roll debate.

It ranks up there with the great issues of our time: Taylor Ham or Pork Roll? And Rutgers football head coach Greg Schiano finally threw his considerable clout behind one of the choices.

New Jersey, despite its reputation and the bozos on MTV, is a really great state. Situated between two great, historic cities in New York and Philadelphia, the state is filled with Fortune 500 companies, beautiful shorelines and pristine forests and mountains.

Sure, we have an edge. And you betta believe it that if we are from New Jersey, we’ve got opinions on some of the great issues that affect our state:

  • Does Central Jersey even exist?  The answer is no, of course, it doesn’t. There is North, and there is South. That’s it.
  • Springsteen or Bon Jovi? C’mon, by every standard it is The Boss.
  • WaWa or 7-Eleven? Not even close, WaWa by a mile.
  • And wooder or ice? Eh, we don’t have that strong of an opinion on that one. But ice, definitely ice.

Schiano, though, has waded into the greatest debate of them all…is it Taylor Ham? Or is it pork roll?

In a recent interview with NBC Sports and Kathyrn Tappen, Schiano was asked this most Jersey of questions. And he didn’t blink.

Is it Taylor Ham? Or is it Pork Roll?

“I go Taylor Ham, I’m Taylor Ham,” Schiano said.

Schiano chopped that answer right.

Other things learned from the interview? Schiano says New Jersey has “the best food.” He also has been to 10 Bruce Springsteen shows.
