Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: How to evolve Primeape into Annihilape

Annihilape is a new Ghost/Fighting-type evolution of Primeape in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. We’ll tell you how to get it.

In the continued trend of old Pokémon getting new evolutions with every new game, Primeape is one of the few that was chosen this time around. A classic ‘mon from Generation 1, Primeape has never gotten much attention from anyone, but perhaps that’ll all change now it has a Fighting/Ghost-type third form, known as Annihilape, making for quite the unique combination.

It’s not obvious how to evolve these furious apes, though, so we’ll tell you how to get this final form. If you’re looking for more evolution methods, then check out our guides on how to evolve Girafarig, and how to evolve Dunsparce.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: How to evolve Girafarig into Farigiraf

Farigiraf is one of the new Pokémon in Scarlet and Violet, but evolving a Girafarig to get one isn’t easy.

It’s always nice to see an oft-forgotten Pokémon get a new evolution. With fellow Generation 2 Pokémon Dunsparce also getting a new evolution after many years, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are a good place for Johto fans to be. Revealed a little ahead of the game’s release, Girafarig is getting some new-found power and becoming a Normal/Psychic-type, which seems like a contradiction, but weirder things have happened.

Still, it’s not the easiest thing to get your hands on Farigiraf, so we’ll tell you how. If you’re looking for other classic Pokémon that have got new forms in Scarlet and Violet, check out our guides for how to evolve Dunsparce, and how to evolve Primeape.

Scarlet & Violet: All Paldea Pokemon revealed so far

Here are all the brand new Pokémon coming in Pokémon: Scarlet & Violet that we know about so far.

A new Pokémon Scarlet & Violet trailer released this week gave us what might be our biggest look at the new Pokémon generation yet, including a bunch of previously unseen Pokémon, names for creatures we have managed to peek at, and a better look at how the game unfolds.

As mentioned in our biggest Violet & Scarlet announcements list, the game is fully open-world, and will allow you to undertake three separate storylines in any order that you like, including a traditional gym leader challenge, culminating in a journey up Victory Road. It all sounds perfect, if it weren’t for those cursed Transformer-like legendary Pokémon.

Still, Paldea looks like a fascinating region, and a new Pokémon generation always comes with new Pokémon to play with, of course. In this guide we’ll be breaking down all of the brand new Paldea Pokémon we know about so far.

Game Freak unveils Pokemon streamer gym leader for Scarlet and Violet

The Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s gym leader reveal also teased a brand-new Paldean Pokemon

One of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s gym leaders is an Electric superstar, and that’s no exaggeration. The Pokemon Company revealed Iono, the upcoming monster-catching RPG’s new character, in a trailer styled as a YouTube short. The move is a fitting one, since Iono is an up-and-coming streamer in the Paldea region where Scarlet and Violet take place, and unlike The Pokemon Company’s other recent reveals, the trailer doesn’t tell us much about what to expect from the games themselves.

Instead, it presents a deep dive into a small slice of Paldean culture, where wannabe stars like Iono craft online personalities built around specific aspects of Pokemon and hope to stand out among the crowd. Iono is all about cuteness and Electric Pokemon, and she even sports two custom-made Magnemite hair clips that emit electric charges when she wants to emphasize a point.

How much all of this – the voice acting and the world-building that’s deeper than we usually see in Pokemon – might carry over into the full games remains to be seen, but the trailer did tease something new in store: a brand-new Paldean Pokemon.

Iono gave a few hints about the crackling critter, namely that it has bumps people mistake for eyes and it creates electricity in its stomach, but so far, there’s not even a silhouette to suggest what it may be.

Wiglett revealed for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet on a surprise stream

The Pokémon Company still has surprises in store, as it revealed this new Pokémon, Wiglett, today that strangely resembles Diglett.

The Pokémon Company International is normally very good at building hype for new Pokémon reveals. Recently we saw Grafaifai’s mysterious markings all over Twitter before it was revealed, but today we got a surprise stream with no announcement beforehand. It showcased several of the Pokémon and areas we’ve already seen, but the highlight is this brand new monster that was shown off.

The World Pokémon Ecological Society hosted a fake webinar earlier today that showed off a bunch of new footage for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. None of it seemed particularly exciting until something suddenly popped out of the ground. This new Pokémon is yet to have a name, but the initial assumption most people made was that it was a Paldean variant of Diglett.

Even the Pokémon researcher hosting the stream noted its similarity to Diglett but eventually concluded that this is a brand new Pokémon, Wiglett. No details are known about its type of abilities yet, but fans are already speculating. As it was revealed on a beach scene, the main theory is that it’ll be a Water/Ground-type, joining a lineup of excellent Pokémon like Johtonian Quagsire, Swampert, and Gastrodon.

That said, anything’s possible, as Scarlet and Violet have already surprised us with this game with things like its open-ended plot, the fact you seemingly get the cover Legendary Pokémon early in the game, and all of the new Paldea Pokémon that have been shown off so far. Following the mostly positive reception of Pokémon Legends: Arceus, these Generation 9 games could very well be among the best new games the series has seen in a long time.

If you need to catch up on the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet reveals, we have a list of every new Paldea Pokémon revealed so far.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Nintendo Switch model has a release date set

Nintendo is releasing a gorgeous Pokémon Scarlet and Violet-themed Switch variant this fall.

Excitement for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is almost reaching a boiling point, especially after the most recent trailer. As ever with this franchise, plenty of slick merchandise is coming out right around the game’s launch.

On Wednesday, Nintendo announced that a Pokémon Scarlet and Violet-themed Switch will be released on November 4, 2022. It’ll be an OLED model and cost $359.99, which is slightly more than a bog-standard version of the console.

Functionally, this console is identical to other Nintendo Switch OLED models. Embroidery is the only difference! Red and purple artwork of the legendary Pokémon Koraidon and Miraidon is on the system’s dock, while images of starter partners Quaxly, Sprigatito, and Fuecoco are on the console. Check out the teaser below.

The joy-con controllers also have emblems from Naranja Academy and Uva Academy, two schools in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. There are various other symbols from across the series adorning this model as well.

Unfortunately, this console doesn’t come with either game. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will release roughly two weeks later, so no real surprise. In fairness, collectors’ items like this rarely ship with the actual game.

The system isn’t available for pre-order yet, and Nintendo hasn’t given any hints as to when that might change.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: 5 biggest reveals from today’s trailer

A new trailer for Pokémon Scarlet & Violet revealed new Pokémon, a new evil team, and new battle mechanics.

As the hype train continues to roll, we’ve got a brand new trailer for Pokémon Scarlet & Violet. The ninth generation of Pokémon is proving to be one of the most exciting ever, as the development team takes cues from the positive reception to Pokémon Legends: Arceus’ open-ended gameplay style. This trailer reaffirmed the idea that the Paldea region will be far less restrictive than previous regions, and you’ll have the freedom to do things in whatever order you want.

We’ll talk you through the biggest reveals, and what they could mean for the game as a whole when they launch on Nintendo Switch this November.

Pokémon Scarlet & Violet announcements are coming later this week

Fresh Scarlet & Violet details are coming during the 2022 Pokémon World Championship closing ceremonies.

There’s no question that Pokémon Scarlet & Violet will be massive, even if we still don’t know much about it. Thankfully, that’ll likely change before next week.

During the 2022 Pokémon World Championship opening ceremony, it was announced that more Pokémon Scarlet & Violet information is coming on Sunday, Aug. 21, 2022, during closing ceremonies (Thanks, IGN). The show begins at around 8:00 A.M. PDT // 11:00 A.M. EDT // 3:00 P.M GMT.

“We also have news for Pokémon Scarlet & Violet and the future of the Pokémon Trading Card Game,” Tsunekazu Ishihara, president of The Pokémon Company, said during the opening ceremonies. “But I’d like to share those updates with you during our closing ceremony, so I ask that you wait just a little bit longer.”

The crowd wasn’t happy that fresh news didn’t drop straight away, but at least those details are not far off. The Pokémon Company didn’t specify exactly what to expect either.

Thus far, we know some of the Paldea Region’s all-new Pokémon. The hefty pig that is Lechonk quickly became a fan favorite, but we’ll see if that enthusiasm sticks around for launch. After all, something even more adorable could show up over the weekend.

Pokémon fans love Fidough, the new pure bread dog from Scarlet and Violet

A new Pokémon Scarlet and Violet trailer shows off Fidough, the puppy made of bread that fans adore.

Hype for Pokémon: Scarlet & Violet is in full swing. Of course, the new trailer is making everyone go wild, mainly because of a little doe-eyed fella.

Meet Fidough, the very good puppy made of bread. Or raw dough, depending on who you ask.

“Fidough’s skin has elastic qualities and is both firm and soft at the same time. When these Pokémon become excited, they intimidate their opponents by puffing up their bodies to appear bigger,” Nintendo said in a press release. “Fidough ferments things in its vicinity using the yeast in its breath. The yeast is useful for cooking, so this Pokémon has been protected by people since long ago.”

There’s no doubt that Fidough has stolen your heart by this point. No shame, friends — the entire fandom feels the same. Below, we’ve put together a list of the most delicious reactions to Fidough.
