Steelers trade for WR depth ahead of looming matchup with Ravens in Week 11

Pittsburgh Steelers are trading a 2025 fifth-round pick to the Jets for WR Mike Williams,

The Steelers are 6-2 and first in the AFC North, with a showdown against the Ravens looming in Week 11.

With teams around the league looking to add depth, Pittsburgh got on the scoreboard by trading for the Jets’ disgruntled wide receiver, Mike Williams.

Williams became expendable when the Jets acquired Davante Adams, and he’ll now join a playoff contender in the Steelers.

Pittsburgh has a stud in George Pickens (35, 548, 1 TD) but wanted more production behind Calvin Austin (25-257-2) and Van Jefferson (14-139-1).

According to ESPN NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler, offensive tackle Jesse Davis was not the Pittsburgh Steelers top option to help add talent to the offensive line. Fowlers says the team wanted to trade for Dennis Daley who ended up being traded to the Tennessee Titans before settling on Davis.

Based on the commentary about Davis, he is no upgrade. The Steelers released their top two reserves, John Leglue and Joe Haeg and replaced them with a player who graded lower than both of them according to Pro Football Focus. The common sentiment from around Twitter by fans of the Miami Dolphins, who Davis played for is “pray for your quarterback room.”

The Steelers offensive line struggled throughout the preseason and it looks like it is going to be a long year for the offense.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are currently in the process of trying to fill their roster back up after losing nose tackle Tyson Alualu last week to a fractured ankle. The team promoted Henry Mondeaux to the active roster to fill his spot and now according to NFL reporter Aditi Kinkhabwala, will be signing former first-round pick Taco Charlton to replace Mondeaux.

Charlton was selected No. 28 overall in the 2017 NFL draft by the Dallas Cowboys. Just two picks later, the Steelers selected linebacker T.J. Watt and the rest, as they say, is history. Charlton has been a bust for much of his career but for the Steelers, beggars can’t be choosers.
