Pittsburgh Penguins at New York Islanders Game 6 odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Wednesday’s Pittsburgh Penguins at New York Islanders Game 6 odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Islanders play Game 6 of their Stanley Cup Playoffs first-round series Wednesday. Puck drop is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Below, we analyze the Penguins-Islanders odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

The Penguins have dropped the past two games to fall into a 3-2 series hole, and now they have to play on the road trying to extend their season. They won on the Island in Game 3, 5-4, so they can do it.

The Islanders scratched out a 3-2 double-overtime victory in Pittsburgh in Game 5 as Pens netminder Tristan Jarry misplayed a puck, and Josh Bailey pounced on it for the winning goal.

Penguins at Islanders: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 7:30 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Penguins -110 (bet $110 to win $100) | Islanders -110 (bet $110 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Penguins +1.5 (-300) | Islanders -1.5 (+230)
  • Over/Under: 5.5 (O: +120 | U: -145)

Penguins at Islanders: Projected starting goalies

Tristan Jarry (25-9-3, 2.75 GAA, .909 SV%, 2 SO) vs. Ilya Sorokin (13-6-3, 2.17 GAA, .918 SV%, 3 SO)

Jarry will look to respond favorably after his misplay in 2OT, and he will have to, as the Penguins are on the brink. They have to win the next two games to stay alive and advance.

Sorokin has started three games in this series, and the rookie has won all three outings. He is 3-0-0 with a 1.66 GAA and .951 SV% in his first-ever NHL postseason.

Penguins at Islanders: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Islanders 3, Penguins 2

Money line (ML)

The ISLANDERS (-110) are the play in Game 6 in their barn as they look to push the Penguins (-110) to the handshake line. Sorokin has emerged as the go-to backstop allowing just three goals across 140:51 in his past two starts.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The Penguins +1.5 (-300) will cost you three times your potential return if you want a little bit of insurance, and that’s just not a good investment or long-term betting strategy to hit high lines like that. You can’t trust the Islanders -1.5 (+230) in this spot, either, as it should be a close one, potentially another game that requires overtime.

AVOID, and just play the money line.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 5.5 (-145) is the play here. The Islanders aren’t likely take a lot of chances and allow the Penguins a chance at odd-man rushes the other way. And the Pens should be a little tight as they play for their playoff lives.

New York Islanders at Pittsburgh Penguins Game 5 odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Monday’s New York Islanders at Pittsburgh Penguins Game 5 odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The New York Islanders and Pittsburgh Penguins play Game 5 of their Stanley Cup Playoffs first-round series Monday. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET at PPG Paints Arena. Below, we analyze the Islanders-Penguins odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

The Islanders picked up a 4-1 victory in Game 4 on home ice behind Ilya Sorokin grabbing the 2-2 series tie. New York has scored exactly four goals in three of the first four outings outscoring Pittsburgh 13-11.

The Penguins had won six of the final seven regular-season meetings, but the playoffs are a different animal. Pittsburgh also allowed 15 total goals in the final seven regular-season meetings, but they have coughed up 13 goals in the four games in this series.

Islanders at Penguins: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 7:40 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Islanders +115 (bet $100 to win $115) | Penguins -140 (bet $140 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Islanders +1.5 (-225) | Penguins -1.5 (+185)
  • Over/Under: 5.5 (O: +110 | U: -135)

Islanders at Penguins: Projected starting goalies

Ilya Sorokin (13-6-3, 2.17 GAA, .918 SV%, 3 SO) vs. Tristan Jarry (25-9-3, 2.75 GAA, .909 SV%, 2 SO)

Sorokin allowed just one goal on 30 shots in Game 4 winning for the second time in as many starts in this series. While Semyon Varlamov was amazing in the regular season, head coach Barry Trotz is simply going with the hot hand right now.

Jarry was 5-1-0 with a 2.41 GAA and .917 SV% in six regular-season starts, but he has had his hands full in this series. He is 2-2-0 with a 3.04 GAA and .904 SV% in four starts in the playoffs so far.

Islanders at Penguins: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Penguins 4, Islanders 3

Money line (ML)

The PENGUINS (-140) are back on home ice, and they’re the play in this pivotal Game 5 as they look to push the Islanders (+115) to the brink. We haven’t seen overtime since Game 1 in this series, surprisingly, but don’t be shocked to see an extra session or two needed here.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The Islanders +1.5 (-225) is a little too expensive on the puck line, but that would be the play as I think this one won’t be determined in regulation.

Still, AVOID, and just stick with the money line.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 5.5 (+110) at plus-money is the way to go. The Islanders are averaging 3.4 goals per game across four outings in this series while the Pens are good for 2.8 goals per game. Look for the third Over of the series in Game 5.

Pittsburgh Penguins at New York Islanders Game 4 odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s New York Islanders at Pittsburgh Penguins Game 4 odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Islanders play Game 4 of their Stanley Cup Playoffs first-round series Saturday. Puck drop is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Below, we analyze the Penguins-Islanders odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

The Penguins picked up a 5-4 victory in Game 3, thanks to a wild third period. Pittsburgh benefited from a Brandon Tanev winner with just 3:36 to go in regulation after a seesaw third period.

The Islanders have been on the short end of each of the past two games after winning 4-3 in overtime in Game 1. They secured home-ice advantage after that win but gave it back after Game 3.

Penguins at Islanders: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 6:15 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Penguins -110 (bet $110 to win $100) | Islanders -110 (bet $110 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Penguins -1.5 (+225) | Islanders +1.5 (-275)
  • Over/Under: 5.5 (O: +115 | U: -135)

Penguins at Islanders: Projected starting goalies

Tristan Jarry (25-9-3, 2.75 GAA, .909 SV%, 2 SO) vs. Semyon Varlamov (19-11-4, 2.04 GAA, .929 SV%, 7 SO)

Jarry stopped 26 of 30 shots in Thursday’s 5-4 win, and he has allowed nine goals on 109 shots for a .917 SV% so far in the series.

Varlamov has coughed up seven goals on 72 shots in a pair of losses since Ilya Sorokin picked up the OT win in Game 1. Barry Trotz will likely have Varlamov on a short leash in this one, with rookie waiting in the wings at the first sign of trouble.

Penguins at Islanders: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Islanders 4, Penguins 3

Money line (ML)

The ISLANDERS (-110) are worth playing lightly, as they look to get back on track after a disappointing Game 3 setback. All three games in this series have been nail-biters, and Game 4 shouldn’t be any different.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The Islanders +1.5 (-275) is super expensive, as New York will cost you nearly three times your potential return.

It seems like a slam-dunk play, as all three games in the series have been decided by one goal. But it’s just too expensive, and not a good betting strategy over the long term.

AVOID, and just play the money line.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 5.5 (+115) is the way to go, and a nice value at plus-money. The Over has cashed in six of the past seven meetings in Uniondale. We saw nine total goals in Game 3, and the Over is 2-1 in the series so far.

Pittsburgh Penguins at New York Islanders Game 3 odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Thursday’s New York Islanders at Pittsburgh Penguins Game 3 odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Islanders play Game 3 of their Stanley Cup Playoffs first-round series Thursday. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Below, we analyze the Penguins-Islanders odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

The Penguins scratched out two first-period goals in Game 2, and they hung on for the 2-1 victory to level the series after falling in overtime in the series opener.

The Islanders surprised the Pens in Game 1 in overtime, and it was just one of two victories across the past seven games dating back to May 1 in the regular season.

Penguins at Islanders: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 7:40 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Penguins -110 (bet $110 to win $100) | Islanders -110 (bet $110 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Penguins -1.5 (+230) | Islanders +1.5 (-300)
  • Over/Under: 5 (O: -135 | U: +110)

Penguins at Islanders: Projected starting goalies

Tristan Jarry (25-9-3, 2.75 GAA, .909 SV%, 2 SO) vs. Semyon Varlamov (19-11-4, 2.04 GAA, .929 SV%, 7 SO)

Jarry turned aside 37 of the 38 shots he faced in Game 2, helping the Penguins square the series 1-1 before shifting to the Island for the next two games.

Varlamov missed Game 1 due to a lower-body injury, but he was back in Game 2. While he lost, he was impressive, making 43 saves on 45 shots in the 2-1 setback.

Penguins at Islanders: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Islanders 3, Penguins 2

Money line (ML)

The ISLANDERS (-110) are the pick in Game 3 in this coin-flip game. The books are expecting this one to be super close, and another overtime game wouldn’t be shocking here.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The Islanders +1.5 (-300) will cost you three times your potential return if you are not confident in a straight-up win and want a little insurance. It’s just not worth it.

AVOID, and just play the money line.

Over/Under (O/U)

TOTAL 5 (O: -135, U: +110) is not a recommended play, as I expect this total to come in right on the number. However, UNDER 5.5 (-160) will cost you a little extra on the alternate line, but that’s a better play.

New York Islanders at Pittsburgh Penguins Game 2 odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Tuesday’s New York Islanders at Pittsburgh Penguins Game 2 odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The New York Islanders and Pittsburgh Penguins play Game 2 of their Stanley Cup Playoffs first-round series Tuesday. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET at PPG Paints Arena. Below, we analyze the Islanders-Penguins odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

The Islanders snatched home-ice advantage from the top-seed Penguins with a 4-3 victory in overtime Sunday as deadline acquisition Kyle Palmieri played the hero with the game-winning goal.

The Penguins led 2-1 early in the second period, but Ilya Sorokin shut them down the rest of the way. Only Kasperi Kapanen was able to solve him in the final 52:43. Sorokin was making the start with Semyon Varlamov nursing a lower-body injury.

Islanders at Penguins: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 7:15 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Islanders +110 (bet $100 to win $110) | Penguins -135 (bet $135 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Islanders +1.5 (-250) | Penguins -1.5 (+195)
  • Over/Under: 5 (O: -140 | U: +115)

Islanders at Penguins: Projected starting goalies

Ilya Sorokin (13-6-3, 2.17 GAA, .918 SV%, 3 SO) vs. Tristan Jarry (25-9-3, 2.75 GAA, .909 SV%, 2 SO)

Sorokin was the surprise starter in Game 1 as head coach Barry Trotz said Semyon Varlamov would be available, but he sat due to a lower-body injury that apparently is more serious than initially believed. Sorokin did well stopping 39 of the 42 shots he faced.

Jarry turned aside 37 of the 41 shots he faced, but he could not keep Palmieri from being a hero in overtime. In fact, Palmieri accounted for two of his team’s four goals.

Islanders at Penguins: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Penguins 3, Islanders 2

Money line (ML)

The PENGUINS (-135) are looking for the bounce-back, and they’ll get it behind Jarry in the Steel City. Offense wasn’t a problem in Game 1 as the Pens found the back of the net three times. But the defense and goaltending broke down a little bit in the third period.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The Islanders +1.5 (-250) posted the win in Game 1, and they looked like an attractive play before the game started, but the price is just too high. The same holds true for Game 2. If you like the Isles, just play them straight up. I think this is another one-goal game, but this time it goes to the home side.

AVOID, and just stick with the money line.

Over/Under (O/U)

TOTAL 5 (O: -140, U: +115) is not worth playing. I think this one comes in right on the number. It might be a little on the pricey side, but OVER 4.5 (-225) on the alternate line might be a better play if you want action on the total. But it will cost you.

New York Islanders at Pittsburgh Penguins Game 1 odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Sunday’s New York Islanders at Pittsburgh Penguins Game 1 odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The New York Islanders and Pittsburgh Penguins play Game 1 of their Stanley Cup Playoffs first-round series Sunday. Puck drop is scheduled for noon ET at PPG Paints Arena. Below, we analyze the Islanders-Penguins odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

The Islanders enter as the fourth-seed in the East Division, but there is no way the Penguins will be taking them lightly. The Islanders managed just two wins in the eight regular-season meetings vs. the Pens, however, five of the games were decided by just one goal.

The Penguins outscored the Islanders 15-7 in winning all four head-to-head meetings on home ice. The top-seeded Pens rattled off three straight wins to wrap up the regular season, albeit against two non-playoff teams. In their last four games against playoff teams, the Penguins went 3-1. So, they are riding high.

Islanders at Penguins: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 4:09 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Islanders +105 (bet $100 to win $105) | Penguins -130 (bet $130 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Islanders +1.5 (-250) | Penguins -1.5 (+200)
  • Over/Under: 5 (O: -145 | U: +120)

Islanders at Penguins: Projected starting goalies

Semyon Varlamov (19-11-4, 2.04 GAA, .929 SV%, 7 SO) vs. Tristan Jarry (25-9-3, 2.75 GAA, .909 SV%, 2 SO)

Varlamov closed out the regular season on a losing note, dropping his final three outings. He only allowed a total of seven goals in the three losses but received just five goals of offensive support.

Varly posted a 1-3-2 record, 2.86 GAA and .897 SV% in seven appearances against the Pens this season – none of his league-high tying seven shutouts came against Pittsburgh.

Jarry started the season a bit slow, but he recovered rather nicely and was a big part why the Pens won the division.

“Jar Jar Wins” was particularly hard on the Islanders, going 5-1-0 with a 2.41 GAA and .917 SV% in six appearances against New York this season.

Islanders at Penguins: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Penguins 2, Islanders 1

Money line (ML)

The PENGUINS (-130) are the lean here, although nothing will come easy in this series. It will be a hotly contested series between rivals regardless, but the fact they have eight regular-season games of animosity already built up will make it very entertaining … and close.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The Islanders +1.5 (-250) would be the play here if the price was a little better, but this is just too expensive for insurance.

It was already mentioned that five of the eight meetings were one-goal games. And yes, when Varlamov and Jarry are each in net, it’s usually a lower-scoring and close matchup, but New York +1.5 (-250) is just too risky at this price.

AVOID and just stick with the money line.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 5 (+120) is the lean in Game 1, and a good value. The Under cashed in three of the past four head-to-head meetings between Varlamov and Jarry. That includes a 2-1 score in the most recent matchup in Pittsburgh March 29.

Pittsburgh Penguins at Philadelphia Flyers odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Tuesday’s Pittsburgh Penguins at Philadelphia Flyers odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Pittsburgh Penguins (34-16-3) play the second of a two-game set against the Philadelphia Flyers (23-23-7) Tuesday. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET at Wells Fargo Center. Below, we analyze the Penguins-Flyers odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

The Penguins were buried by the Flyers in Philadelphia in the front end of the set on Monday, falling 7-2. That ended a modest two-game win streak, splashing cold water on their momentum after a sweep of the Capitals.

The Flyers are eliminated from the postseason chase, but they showed no quit against their Keystone State rivals by slapping the brakes on a three-game losing skid. In fact, they have won three of the past four against the Pens.

Penguins at Flyers: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 7:45 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Penguins -160 (bet $160 to win $100) | Flyers +135 (bet $100 to win $135)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Penguins -1.5 (+145) | Flyers +1.5 (-175)
  • Over/Under: 6.5 (O: +105 | U: -120)

Penguins at Flyers: Projected starting goalies

Tristan Jarry (23-9-3, 2.67 GAA, .912 SV%, 2 SO) vs. Brian Elliott (13-8-2, 3.02 GAA, .890 SV%, 2 SO)

Jarry will make the start after Casey DeSmith left with a lower-body injury after two-plus periods. He allowed two goals on seven shots in relief in Monday’s blowout.

Elliott has allowed nine goals across his past two starts, both losses to the New Jersey Devils. He has won six of his past 11 starts, however, and as poor as things have gone for the Flyers this season, that’s pretty special.

Penguins at Flyers: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Penguins 4, Flyers 2

Money line (ML)

The PENGUINS (-160) will snap back on track after getting their doors blown off by the Flyers (+135) Monday. And while the Pens are a dismal 2-6 in their past eight when working on no rest, the Flyers have dropped five in a row in the second end of a back-to-back set.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The PENGUINS -1.5 (+145) are worth a small-unit play as they look to rebound. The Flyers +1.5 (-175) will be playing in their third game in the past four days, and that usually doesn’t work well for them. They’re 1-8 in the past nine in the third game of a 3-in-4 situation.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 6.5 (-120) is the lean, as Jarry should be able to help Pittsburgh get back on track after a high-scoring loss Monday. The Under is 5-2-1 in the past eight for Pittsburgh on no rest, too.

Boston Bruins at Pittsburgh Penguins odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Tuesday’s Boston Bruins at Pittsburgh Penguins NHL odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Boston Bruins (27-14-6) play the second contest of a two-game set against the Pittsburgh Penguins (32-14-3) Tuesday with a 7 p.m. ET puck drop at PPG Paints Arena. Below, we analyze the Bruins-Penguins odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

The Bruins were on the short end of a 1-0 loss in the Steel City in the first half of the two-game set. It was the first time the B’s were blanked since March 28, also by a 1-0 score, against the New Jersey Devils. Boston had scored 27 goals across its previous seven games before the shutout loss.

The Pens have rattled off four straight victories and outscored the opposition 17-9 during the span. Pittsburgh enters this game 11-2 in its last 13 games as a home underdog and 4-1 in its past five against winning teams.

Tuukka Rask (11-4-2, 2.36 GAA, .913 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Tristan Jarry (21-8-3, 2.70 GAA, .911 SV%, 1 SO)

Rask took a no-decision against the lowly Buffalo Sabres Friday, as he allowed 4 goals on 28 shots. He is still 3-0-0 with a 2.17 GAA and .931 SV% through four starts in April.

Jarry made 30 saves Sunday for his first shutout of the season. He has rattled off four consecutive victories, and he hasn’t lost in regulation since March 18. Jarry is 2-1-1 with a 1.96 GAA and .938 SV% in four games against Boston.

The Penguins +1.5 (-275) will cost you nearly three times your potential return, and that’s just not a good play. If you like the Pens, just play them straight up as home underdogs.

AVOID.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 5.5 (-110) is the best play on the board in this game. The teams just played to a 1-0 score, and Rask and Jarry won’t cough up a ton of goals.

The Under hit in six of the past seven, and four of the previous five meetings at PPG Paints Arena. Keep slamming the Under in B’s-Pens games until further notice.

Boston Bruins at Pittsburgh Penguins odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Sunday’s Boston Bruins at Pittsburgh Penguins NHL odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Boston Bruins (27-13-6) play the first game of a two-game set against the Pittsburgh Penguins (31-14-3) Sunday with a 3 p.m. ET puck drop at PPG Paints Arena. Below, we analyze the Bruins-Penguins odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

The Bruins saw their six-game win streak come to a surprising halt when they lost at the Buffalo Sabres 6-4 in the finale of a three-game set.

It was yet another cautionary tale on why you never bet huge money line favorites straight up as Boston failed at -310. If you bet the B’s in the first two wins, you would still be in the red at -110 despite a 2-1 betting record.

The Penguins enter on a three-game win streak after sweeping the visiting New Jersey Devils in three straight while outscoring them 16-9.

The Bruins and Penguins last met April 1-3 in Boston, splitting a pair of games with the Pens outscoring the B’s 9-8.

Bruins at Penguins: Odds, spread and lines

  • Money line: Bruins -110 (bet $110 to win $100) | Penguins -105 (bet $105 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Bruins -1.5 (+225) | Penguins +1.5 (-275)
  • Over/Under: 5.5 (O: -120 | U: +100)

Bruins at Penguins: Projected starting goalies

Jeremy Swayman (5-1-0, 1.65 GAA, .943 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Tristan Jarry (20-8-3, 2.79 GAA, .908 SV%)

Swayman, who is confirmed to start, is being kept around in a three-goalie rotation of sorts. He enters with three straight wins and has two or fewer goals allowed in five of his six starts this season, emerging as the goalie of the future in Beantown.

Jarry was ice-cold to start the season, but he has picked up the pace significantly. In fact, he hasn’t lost back-to-back starts in regulation since Jan. 28-Feb. 6 in a two-game stretch on the road against the Bruins and New York Islanders.

“Jar Jar Wins” is 1-1-1 with a 2.60 GAA and .919 SV% in three starts against the B’s this season.

Bruins at Penguins: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Penguins 3, Bruins 2

Money line (ML)

The PENGUINS (-105) have been getting great production out of Jarry lately, and they rank second in the NHL in goals per game (3.4). This offense will be a huge test for the rookie Swayman, especially on the road. Back the home side.

Against the spread (ATS)

The Penguins +1.5 (-275) aren’t worth playing on the puck line as you need to risk almost three times your potential return, and there is no sense in doing that. If you like the Penguins, just take them straight up.

PASS.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 5.5 (+100) is even money and a value play based on the recent production of both backstops in this game. Swayman has yielded two or fewer goals in five of six, and Jarry has coughed up two or fewer goals in five of his past six appearances.

New Jersey Devils at Pittsburgh Penguins odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Thursday’s New Jersey Devils at Pittsburgh Penguins NHL odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The New Jersey Devils (14-25-6) play the middle game of a three-game set at the Pittsburgh Penguins (29-14-3) Thursday with a 7 p.m. ET puck drop at PPG Paints Arena. Below, we analyze the Devils-Penguins odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

The Devils were tripped up 7-6 in a crazy game Tuesday. New Jersey fell behind 4-0 after one period, and 6-0 after two. That’s when the magic started as the Devils scored six third-period goals to just one for the Pens. New Jersey never tied it up, but its last goal made it 7-6 with 41 seconds to go.

The good news for the Penguins is that they won behind a seven-goal night. But after the ugly third period, it likely felt like a loss. They do have three straight wins against the Devils since April 11, and they’re averaging six goals per game in that span.

Devils at Penguins: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 4:55 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Devils +240 (bet $100 to win $240) | Penguins -300 (bet $300 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Devils +1.5 (-105) | Penguins -1.5 (-115)
  • Over/Under: 6 (O: -115 | U: -105)

Devils at Penguins: Projected starting goalies

Mackenzie Blackwood (9-15-3, 3.10 GAA, .900 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Tristan Jarry (19-8-3, 2.85 GAA, .906 SV%)

Blackwood hasn’t won in eight consecutive starts, allowing four or more goals in six of those outings dating back to a 1-0 shutout at the Boston Bruins March 28. He wasn’t in there for Tuesday’s 7-6 game, as G Scott Wedgewood started and was replaced by G Aaron Dell.

Jarry hung on for the victory Tuesday, allowing six goals on 30 shots, and he has won four of the past five overall. It wasn’t pretty, but he now has wins in consecutive starts in the head-to-head series after a pair of losses in March to New Jersey.

Devils at Penguins: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Penguins 4, Devils 3

Money line (ML)

There are two ways this can go. The Penguins (-300) can come out angry, embarrassed and thrash the Devils (+240), or they will lose outright. Either way, shy away from the money line and look to the spread instead.

PASS.

Against the spread (ATS)

The DEVILS +1.5 (-105) are a decent play here, as they fought back for the cover Tuesday. Condolences to those who laid the goal and a half with the Pens and were celebrating when it was 6-0. Ouch.

Playing New Jersey comes with some risk. The Devils have dropped seven in a row, and only one of the losses (Tuesday) was a one-goal difference. So, go lightly.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 6 (-115) is the best play on the board. Both teams hit the six-goal mark last time out, and total bettors were guaranteed of at least a push after just 20 minutes. That’s a rarity, and you should expect the goals and pace to be at a less feverish pace in this one. But seven total goals are easily attainable.
