The Rams and Lions agreed to a blockbuster trade that will send Jared Goff and three draft picks to Detroit for Matthew Stafford.
The Lions will inherit what’s left on Goff’s four-year deal, and the Rams will take on Stafford’s contract.
For the Rams, the trade didn’t include a required raise for Stafford.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Stafford is expected to play out the remainder of his contract, which is two years and for $43 million

The Patriots were never in the mix for quarterback Matthew Stafford, according to NBC Sports Boston’s Tom Curran.
The Lions agreed to terms on a trade sending Stafford to the Rams in exchange for quarterback Jared Goff, two first-round picks and a third-round pick.
Though New England seemed like a likely suitor, with draft assets to coax Detroit and cap space to give Stafford a raise, Stafford nixed the idea of joining the Patriots.
He simply wasn’t interested in joining Bill Belichick and company for the 2021 season

The Carolina Panthers are clearly in the market for an upgrade at the quarterback position.
The team is involved in the Matthew Stafford trade talks, according to a report by Joe Person at the Athletic.
The Panthers also appear to be looking at Deshaun Watson, who will be the grand prize in what’s shaping up to be a very busy QB-movement offseason.
Stafford turns 33 in about a week and also has a lot of teams interested, namely the Rams, Colts and 49ers

Now the cornerback is acting like an NFL general manager.
Sherman offered his opinion on what the Jets should give up in a deal for Watson.

The Rams could be on their way to making a change at quarterback this offseason and Matthew Stafford appears to be a legitimate option.
According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, Stafford considers the Rams a contender in his trade market, and Los Angeles has already explored the possibility of acquiring the Lions quarterback.
Stafford and the Lions have agreed to mutually part ways and Detroit has already fielded calls about its quarterback.
Moving Jared Goff is obviously a must, given his four-year contract, with a trade being the only possible way for the Rams to dump Goff.
He’ll incur a dead cap charge of $65.5 million if cut

The third time is evidently not the charm for the Buffalo Bills and cornerback EJ Gaines.
The Bills waived Gaines on Friday per the NFL’s transactions wire after signing him last offseason to a one-year contract.
Gaines opted out of the 2020 season due to COVID-19 and due to his opt out, he never got a chance to compete for time in Buffalo’s secondary last season and it appears he won’t get a chance in 2021 either.
Releasing Gaines will save the Bills $850,000 against the salary cap, according to Spotrac

The Ravens have signed TE Nick Boyle to a 2-year contract extension through the 2023 season.
Set to earn $7.8 million against the cap in 2021, some wondered if Boyle would be a cap casualty this offseason.
Boyle was limited to only 9 games in 2020, but he has 120 career catches for 1,047 yards and 4 touchdowns
