LSU linebacker Kolbe Fields re-enters transfer portal

Fields transferred in from South Carolina last offseason, and he will head elsewhere with three remaining years of eligibility.

LSU saw yet another defensive player enter the transfer portal on Thursday as linebacker [autotag]Kolbe Fields[/autotag] will be moving on, as was first reported by On3’s Matt Zenitz.

A transfer from South Carolina in his second season, fields saw action in four games as a true freshman with the Gamecocks in 2021, totaling one tackle. He played in 11 games in Baton Rouge this season, though that only resulted in four tackles (two solo).

Fields enters the portal with three remaining years of eligibility, and he’ll hope the third school is the right fit. He’s the third linebacker LSU has seen enter the transfer portal, joining [autotag]Antoine Sampah[/autotag] and [autotag]Phillip Webb[/autotag], both of whom announced their intentions back in August and were not listed on the roster this fall.

Two LSU players officially enter the transfer portal

Antoine Sampah and Phillip Webb announced their decisions in August, but they became the first LSU players to formally enter the portal on Monday.

The transfer portal is open for business, and players are entering it in a rapid fashion.

[autotag]Antoine Sampah[/autotag] and [autotag]Phillip Webb[/autotag] were the first LSU players to officially enter the transfer portal, though both announced their decisions to leave in August prior to the season and were not listed on the roster this fall.

Sampah, a 6-foot-2, 215-pound linebacker from Woodbridge, Virginia, played in six games during his Tiger career totaling zero tackles. Webb, a 6-foot-4, 255-pound linebacker from Buford, Georgia, played in three games in 2021 and totaled one tackle.

These are the first two names to hit the portal from the bayou, but there could (and likely will) be more. LSU received great news on Monday when [autotag]Kayshon Boutte[/autotag] said he would come back next season. That will be a big boost for the receiving core next year.

Pair of veteran linebackers no longer listed on LSU’s roster

Antoine Sampah and Phillip Webb appear to have moved on.

Though the official deadline to enter the transfer portal and maintain immediate eligibility passed on May 1, there can always be attrition during the summer ahead of fall camp.

It seems that has happened at LSU as a pair of veteran linebackers — [autotag]Antoine Sampah[/autotag] and [autotag]Phillip Webb[/autotag] — are no longer listed on the 2022 roster. Both joined the team as members of the 2020 recruiting class and were ranked as top-100 national prospects coming out of high school.

However, injuries limited them over the course of their careers. Sampah appeared in just six games in three years while not recording any defensive stats, while Webb has only played in three games. All of those came last season, and he registered a single assisted tackle during the 2022 campaign.

The Tigers have a good amount of depth at linebacker with returning players like [autotag]Micah Baskerville[/autotag], [autotag]Greg Penn III[/autotag] and [autotag]Mike Jones Jr.[/autotag], in addition to incoming five-star true freshman [autotag]Harold Perkins[/autotag].
