Flyers at Maple Leafs projected goalies

Carter Hart (10-9-6, 2.82 GAA, .912 SV%) vs. Ilya Samsonov (9-3-0, 1.98 GAA, .929 SV%, 2 SO)

Hart allowed 3 goals on 33 shots Tuesday against the Blue Jackets, picking up the win. He has allowed 3 or more goals in 6 of his 9 starts in December, going 3-4-2 with a 2.99 GAA and .904 SV% in the month.

Samsonov allowed 5 goals on 28 shots in Washington against his former team, the Capitals, on Saturday. That 5-2 loss snapped his 5-start win streak  and it splashed cold water on the hot goalie, who had a pair of shutouts against the Anaheim Ducks and Los Angeles Kings to start the month.

Flyers at Maple Leafs picks and predictions

Prediction

Maple Leafs 4, Flyers 1

Moneyline

The Maple Leafs (-300) will cost you 3 times your potential return, and that’s just too expensive. While the Flyers (+250) are 0-4 in the last 4 meetings with the Leafs, and 1-4 in the last 5 trips to Toronto, PASS, and look to the puck line instead.

Puck line/Against the spread

The MAPLE LEAFS -1.5 (-130) are a little more reasonably priced. The home team has won 11 of the last 15 in this series, and Toronto has won by 3 or more goals in each of the last 4 meetings.

Over/Under

UNDER 6.5 (-130) is the lean, but go lightly with a half-unit play at best.

While the Leafs certainly have a potent offense, the Flyers will have trouble solving Samsonov, who had allowed just 2 total goals in his 4 starts prior to the Washington debacle. Look for Samsonov to get back on track, shutting down the toothless Philadelphia offense.

Philadelphia Flyers at Toronto Maple Leafs odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Philadelphia Flyers at Toronto Maple Leafs odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Philadelphia Flyers (5-2-2) takes their road trip to Toronto to battle the Toronto Maple Leafs (4-4-2) Wednesday 7 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Flyers vs. Maple Leaf odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Flyers started off the season strong, but have slipped recently. Coming off a 1-0 overtime loss to the New York Rangers on Tuesday, the Flyers have lost 2 of their last 3 games. They look to get back on track against the Maple Leafs, who are in last place in the Atlantic Division.

The Maple Leafs come into the game coming off their own overtime loss, 4-3 on Sunday against the Anaheim Ducks. After a 3-day layoff, Toronto will be well rested for this matchup, and they also look to get their season headed in the right direction.

Flyers at Maple Leafs projected goalies

Felix Sandstrom (0-2-0, 3.14 GAA, .900 SV%) vs. Ilya Samsonov (4-2-0, 2.35 GAA, .920 SV%)

Sandstrom has not allowed a power-play goal yet this season. He has been the goalie for both Flyers’ regulation losses this season.

Despite the good 2.35 GAA, Samsonov has yet to produce a shutout this season. He has also been weak in the power play. Despite having a .920 save%, this drops to .833 on the power play.

Flyers at Maple Leafs picks and predictions

Prediction

Maple Leafs 5, Flyers 3

Moneyline

AVOID.

The ML in tis game is far too high to make a play on. Avoid and instead make a play on the puck line or Over/Under.

Puck line/Against the spread

BET MAPLE LEAFS -1.5 (-140).

Toronto comes into the game after a 3-day rest while Philadelphia is coming in after an overtime game on Tuesday night against the New York Rangers.

With Philadelphia leaning on backup goalie Sandstrom, Toronto will be able to get a few shots past the crease. The Flyers only put 19 shots on goal on Tuesday. If the same is done Wednesday, Toronto will easily cover this spread. The Maple Leafs -1.5 (-140) is my favorite play in this game.

Over/Under

LEAN OVER 6.5 (-112).

I only lean Over in this game as the Flyers have been getting shots on goal at an alarmingly low rate recently. On the second leg of the Back-to-back, Philadelphia will be tired and with backup Sandstrom stepping in, goals could be aplenty.

Toronto comes in well rested and with Samsonov in net, they could hold the Flyers in check. If they do, this game will go Under. But the Maple Leafs are struggling this season as well and anything could happen. I lean the Over. But I would rather place my entire stake for this game on the Maple Leafs -1.5 (-135). The juice is a bit more. But it is certainly the safer play.
