Flyers at Islanders projected goalies

Carter Hart (21-22-10, 2.92 GAA, .908 SV%, 2 SO) vs. Ilya Sorokin (29-21-7, 2.38 GAA, .924 SV%, 5 SO)

Hart was hot to finish up March, winning 4 straight games including a 3-0 shutout over the Detroit Red Wings. He allowed 4 goals on 30 shots in a loss in Dallas last time out Thursday.

Sorokin turned aside 30 of the 31 shots he faced against the Tampa Bay Lightning Thursday, keeping the playoff hopes of the Isles alive and well. He allowed 2 goals on 32 shots in a 3-1 loss in Philadelphia Nov. 29 in his only previous meeting with the Fly Guys this season.

Flyers at Islanders picks and predictions

Prediction

Islanders 3, Flyers 1

Moneyline

The Islanders (-275) will cost you nearly 3 times your potential return, and that’s way too much for not enough reward.

Even as part of a multi-team parlay, including New York sucks all the value out of your ticket.

AVOID.

Puck line/Against the spread

The ISLANDERS -1.5 (-105) are a better value at near even-money on the puck line.

As a favorite, New York has failed to cover the puck line in each of the past 3 games, and it is 3-10 in the past 13 games on the puck line, too.

It’s risky, but it’s worth the play with Philly out of the playoff race, and New York likely to go all out for an important 2 points.

Over/Under

UNDER 5.5 (+100) is the lean.

The total has gone low in 8 of the past 11 meetings in this series. The Under is also 5-2 in the past 7 games overall for Philadelphia, while going 5-1 in the past 6 on the road for the Flyers.

The Under is 4-1-1 in the past 6 games for the Islanders, too, while cashing at a 4-1-1 clip in the past 6 against the Eastern Conference, too.

Philadelphia Flyers at New York Islanders odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s Philadelphia Flyers at New York Islanders NHL odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Philadelphia Flyers (17-14-4) travel to meet the New York Islanders (23-10-4) Saturday with a 7 p.m. ET puck drop at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Below, we analyze the Flyers-Islanders odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

The Flyers were dusted last time out against the Buffalo Sabres on the road, falling 6-1. That was stunning considering the Sabres entered on an 18-game winless drought. Despite that ugly loss, the Flyers have still won two of the past three.

The Islanders rolled up a season-high eight goals as they doubled up the visiting Washington Capitals by an 8-4 win. That snapped a two-game losing skid. At home, the Isles have won two in a row, including a 6-1 win over the Flyers on March 20.

Flyers at Islanders: Odds, spread and lines

  • Money line: Flyers +150 (bet $100 to win $150) | Islanders -175 (bet $175 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Flyers +1.5 (-190) | Islanders -1.5 (+155)
  • Over/Under: 5.5 (O: -105 | U: -115)

Flyers at Islanders: Projected starting goalies

Carter Hart (8-9-3, 4.04 GAA, .869 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Semyon Varlamov (15-7-3, 2.26 GAA, .919 SV%, 3 SO)

Hart has not only lost three straight, and four of the past five, he has been pounded lately. He coughed up five goals on just 11 shots in a loss March 25 against the Rangers, and he was blasted for six goals on 28 shots in a start March 20 in Uniondale in his most recent start against the Islanders.

Varlamov was in between the pipes Thursday in an 8-4 win over the Capitals, kicking off the month of April on a good note after closing March with losses in three of his final four outings. The last time he faced the Flyers was March 18, stopping 27 of 31 shots in a 4-3 loss at home.

Flyers at Islanders: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Islanders 5, Flyers 2

Money line (ML)

The ISLANDERS (-175) are a little high priced, but they’re coming off a season-high in goals scored. Yes, the Flyers (+150) will come in rested, but this is a team using a goalie yielding north of four goals per game, and a side which was pounded by the lowly Sabres last time out.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The ISLANDERS -1.5 (+155) are a nice value on the puck line, way more so than just picking them straight up on the money line.

New York has covered the puck line in just three of its past seven victories, so there is some risk here. But one of those covers came against Philadelphia on March 20 in a 6-1 win.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 5.5 (-105) is the way to go, especially with Hart patrolling the blue ice for the Fly Guys. He has a 4.04 GAA, which is just unheard of for a starting netminder. The Isles have the potential to take care of the Over all on their own.

Philadelphia Flyers at New York Islanders odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Thursday’s Philadelphia Flyers at New York Islanders NHL odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Philadelphia Flyers (14-10-3) come off a 9-0 shellacking at the hands of the New York Rangers Wednesday and remain in the Big Apple to play the New York Islanders (19-7-4) Thursday in the first of a three-game set. Puck drop will be at 7 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Flyers-Islanders odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

The Flyers beat the Rangers 5-4 in overtime Monday, but they gave up 9 goals in the first 39:39 of action Wednesday for their most embarrassing loss of the season. Philly has lost five of its last seven games.

The Isles had a nine-game win streak snapped with a 3-1 loss to the Washington Capitals Tuesday. They’ve surged into first place in the East Division while the Flyers have tumbled to fifth.

These teams will play two games in New York before relocating to Philadelphia for the final game of the set. The Flyers lead the season series 2-0 but both victories in late January were in overtime.

Flyers at Islanders: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 12:30 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Flyers +140 (bet $100 to win $140) | Islanders -165 (bet $165 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Flyers +1.5 (-200) | Islanders -1.5 (+165)
  • Over/Under: 5.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Flyers at Islanders: Projected starting goalies

Carter Hart (7-6-3, .880 SV%, 3.75 GAA) vs. Semyon Varlamov (13-5-3, .926 SV%, 2.08 GAA)

Hart relieved backup Brian Elliott, the better of the two Flyers netminders this season, Wednesday but allowed 4 goals on 16 shots in 32:30 of crease time. He won Monday’s game against the Rangers but with 4 goals allowed on a modest 24 shots.

Varlamov had a personal four-start win streak snapped by the Caps Tuesday when he allowed 3 goals on 22 shots. It was the first time in five games he allowed more than a pair of goals. He allowed 3 goals on 17 shots in an overtime loss in his only start this season against the Flyers.

Flyers at Islanders: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Islanders 4, Flyers 2

Money line (ML)

Wednesday’s implosion was an anomaly, but the Flyers’ troubles extend well beyond the single game. They’ve gone 3-6-0 and have been outscored 42-27 in March. The Islanders are 11-1-1 dating back to Feb. 22 and have outscored opponents 46-26.

The Flyers lead the season series but both of those needed extra time.

There’s plenty of value with the ISLANDERS (-165) for the outright win.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

ISLANDERS -1.5 (+165) is the superior play Thursday, as the Flyers can improve by a 7-goal margin from Wednesday’s disaster and still lose by 2.

Philly isn’t as bad as the result of its last game but the back-to-back situation, even with negligible travel, will prevent them from bouncing back immediately. A multi-goal Islanders win Thursday would be likely to get us better value on the Flyers for Saturday’s second game of this series.

Over/Under (O/U)

The Islanders were dealt a blow this week when captain LW Anders Lee (knee) was ruled out for the season, but New York’s improved goal production is the biggest reason for its rush up the standings over the last month.

Back the OVER 5.5 (-110) with New York facing a tired and shaken up goaltender.
