Flyers at Bruins projected goalies

Carter Hart (6-2-3, 2.42 GAA, .929 SV%) vs. Linus Ullmark (11-1-0, 1.96 GAA, .936 SV%, 1 SO)

Hart has hit the skids lately, allowing 3 or more goals in each of his last 3 starts. Part of the issue has been a lack of offensive support, as he is 1-2-2 in 5 starts in November, but he has a decent 2.56 GAA and .917 SV%.

Ullmark has rattled off 3 straight wins since his lone loss Nov. 5 in Toronto, and he has allowed 3 or fewer goals in each of his 12 starts and 13 appearances. He is even better at home, going 7-0-0 with a 1.68 GAA and .945 SV% in 7 starts at TD Garden.

Flyers at Bruins picks and predictions

Prediction

Bruins 5, Flyers 2

Moneyline

The Bruins (-370) will cost you over 3 1/2 times your potential return, and that’s way too much risk for not nearly enough reward.

PASS, and look to the puck line instead.

Puck line/Against the spread

The BRUINS -1.5 (-130) is a strong play on the puck line. Boston has won 5 of the last 6 games and all of those wins have been by 2 or more goals. In fact, Boston has yielded just 2 or fewer goals in each of the games.

And in 11 of the team’s 14 victories, Boston has also won by 2 or more goals. If you like the Bs to win, you should love them on the puck line until they start to cool off.

Over/Under

OVER 6.5 (+105) is a little bit risky, but it’s worth the play at plus-money.

The Bruins cashed the Over last time out in a 5-2 win against the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday, and you can expect a similar result here.

The Flyers have allowed 4 or more goals in each of the past 4 outings, and it isn’t likely to do much better against the high-flying Bs.

Philadelphia Flyers vs. Boston Bruins odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Sunday’s Philadelphia Flyers vs. Boston Bruins NHL odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Philadelphia Flyers (8-3-3) and the Boston Bruins (10-3-2) meet Sunday for a 7:30 p.m. ET puck drop in an outdoor game near Lake Tahoe in Stateline, Nev. Below we analyze the Flyers-Bruins NHL odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

  • Money line: Flyers +165 (bet $100 to win $165) | Bruins -200 (bet $200 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Flyers +1.5 (-165) | Bruins -1.5 (+140)
  • Over/Under: 5.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Flyers vs. Bruins: Projected starting goalies

Carter Hart (5-2-3, 3.31 GAA, .902 SV%) at Tuukka Rask (6-2-1, 2.51 GAA, .906 SV%)

Hart hasn’t been able to beat the Bruins in Boston or Philadelphia. Now he’ll hope to get it done in the high country near Lake Tahoe. In three starts against the B’s, Hart has posted a 0-1-2 record, 4.53 GAA and .865 SV%. That’s the bad news. The good news is that Hart hasn’t lost in regulation in his past five starts since Jan. 23 in Boston.

Rask in confirmed to be in the crease for the Bruins. He has had a flare for the dramatic this season as six of his nine starts have been decided in either overtime or a shootout. He is 3-1 in overtime and 2-0 in shootouts. He is a perfect 3-0-0 with a 2.60 GAA and .893 SV% in three starts against Philly.

Flyers vs. Bruins: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Bruins 4, Flyers 1

Money line (ML)

The Bruins (-200) will cost you two times your potential return, and that’s risky business given the neutral site and potential difficult ice conditions. The game was moved from 3 p.m. ET to 7:30 p.m. ET after Saturday’s Vegas Golden Knights-Colorado Avalanche showdown in Stateline was delayed and finished in the evening as they played just one period in the midday sun. AVOID.

Against the spread (ATS)

The BRUINS -1.5 (+140) are a better play on the puck line than the money line, especially since Hart has struggled so much against the B’s this season. Again, the ice conditions and neutral site are concerning, but given Boston’s dominance against Philly in every other venue, why should Tahoe be any different?

Over/Under (O/U)

The lean is to the UNDER 5.5 (-110). The Under cashed in Saturday’s 11-hour odyssey between the Avs and Golden Knights. The Under also cashed in last season’s game at the Air Force Academy between Colorado and the Los Angeles Kings. The Under is actually 3-1 in the past four NHL games played outside.

Of course, the last time Philly played on home ice in the Stadium Series outdoors, it hit the Over in a 4-3 overtime win over the Pittsburgh Penguins Feb. 23, 2019. The last time the B’s were outside, they topped the Chicago Blackhawks 4-2 at Notre Dame Stadium Jan. 1, 2019.

Philadelphia Flyers at Boston Bruins odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s Philadelphia Flyers at Boston Bruins NHL betting odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Boston Bruins (2-1-1) play host to the Philadelphia Flyers (3-1-1) for the second time in three days following a 5-4 shootout win Thursday. Saturday’s puck drop at TD Garden will be at 7 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Flyers-Bruins NHL odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Flyers at Bruins: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 10:05 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Flyers +130 (bet $100 to win $130) | Bruins -155 (bet $155 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Flyers +1.5 (-225) | Bruins -1.5 (+180)
  • Over/Under: 5.5 (O: -105 | U: -115)

Flyers at Bruins: Projected starting goalies

Carter Hart (2-1-1, .902 SV%, 3.67 GAA) vs. Jaroslav Halak
(0-0-1, .935 SV%, 1.85 GAA)

Hart started the season with back-to-back wins over the rival Pittsburgh Penguins, but he has since allowed 4 goals in a regulation loss to the Buffalo Sabres and another 4 in the shootout loss to the Bruins. He stopped 39 of 43 shots Thursday.

The Bruins are opting for a different strategy and will pivot to Halak after starter Tuukka Rask stopped 22 of 26 shots in Thursday’s shootout win. Halak stopped 29 of 31 shots in an overtime loss to the New Jersey Devils a week ago.

Flyers at Bruins: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Flyers 4, Bruins 3

Money line (ML)

The Bruins outplayed the Flyers by a considerable margin Thursday. They registered 65.48% of all shot attempts at 5-on-5 and had 26 scoring chances to 18 for the Flyers at full strength. Philadelphia was able to score twice in five power-play opportunities with Boston going 1-for-3 with the man advantage.

The differing goaltending strategies will be interesting to see. Teams will grow very familiar with each other throughout this unique 2021 season with plenty of consecutive meetings. Switching up starting goaltenders will be one of the primary ways by which teams can throw a different look at their opponent.

For now, we’ll side with the FLYERS (+130) as a modest underdog play and give the edge to Hart in Game 2

Against the spread (ATS)

PASS on the puck line. There’s plenty of value in the Flyers’ money line play that we don’t need to pay the premium for a single goal of insurance in the event of a loss, even though Thursday’s game went the distance.

There are plenty of injuries on both sides, including Bruins RW David Pastrnak and Flyers C Sean Couturier. The shorthanded rosters could result in a more lopsided result.

Over/Under (O/U)

Due to the mentioned injury reports, which also include Flyers shutdown D Philippe Myers (ribs), we’ll take the OVER 5.5 (-105). The two combined for 9 total goals including the shootout winner Thursday.
