Philadelphia Flyers at New York Islanders odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Thursday’s Philadelphia Flyers at New York Islanders NHL odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Philadelphia Flyers (14-10-3) come off a 9-0 shellacking at the hands of the New York Rangers Wednesday and remain in the Big Apple to play the New York Islanders (19-7-4) Thursday in the first of a three-game set. Puck drop will be at 7 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Flyers-Islanders odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

The Flyers beat the Rangers 5-4 in overtime Monday, but they gave up 9 goals in the first 39:39 of action Wednesday for their most embarrassing loss of the season. Philly has lost five of its last seven games.

The Isles had a nine-game win streak snapped with a 3-1 loss to the Washington Capitals Tuesday. They’ve surged into first place in the East Division while the Flyers have tumbled to fifth.

These teams will play two games in New York before relocating to Philadelphia for the final game of the set. The Flyers lead the season series 2-0 but both victories in late January were in overtime.

Flyers at Islanders: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 12:30 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Flyers +140 (bet $100 to win $140) | Islanders -165 (bet $165 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Flyers +1.5 (-200) | Islanders -1.5 (+165)
  • Over/Under: 5.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Flyers at Islanders: Projected starting goalies

Carter Hart (7-6-3, .880 SV%, 3.75 GAA) vs. Semyon Varlamov (13-5-3, .926 SV%, 2.08 GAA)

Hart relieved backup Brian Elliott, the better of the two Flyers netminders this season, Wednesday but allowed 4 goals on 16 shots in 32:30 of crease time. He won Monday’s game against the Rangers but with 4 goals allowed on a modest 24 shots.

Varlamov had a personal four-start win streak snapped by the Caps Tuesday when he allowed 3 goals on 22 shots. It was the first time in five games he allowed more than a pair of goals. He allowed 3 goals on 17 shots in an overtime loss in his only start this season against the Flyers.

Flyers at Islanders: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Islanders 4, Flyers 2

Money line (ML)

Wednesday’s implosion was an anomaly, but the Flyers’ troubles extend well beyond the single game. They’ve gone 3-6-0 and have been outscored 42-27 in March. The Islanders are 11-1-1 dating back to Feb. 22 and have outscored opponents 46-26.

The Flyers lead the season series but both of those needed extra time.

There’s plenty of value with the ISLANDERS (-165) for the outright win.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

ISLANDERS -1.5 (+165) is the superior play Thursday, as the Flyers can improve by a 7-goal margin from Wednesday’s disaster and still lose by 2.

Philly isn’t as bad as the result of its last game but the back-to-back situation, even with negligible travel, will prevent them from bouncing back immediately. A multi-goal Islanders win Thursday would be likely to get us better value on the Flyers for Saturday’s second game of this series.

Over/Under (O/U)

The Islanders were dealt a blow this week when captain LW Anders Lee (knee) was ruled out for the season, but New York’s improved goal production is the biggest reason for its rush up the standings over the last month.

Back the OVER 5.5 (-110) with New York facing a tired and shaken up goaltender.

Philadelphia Flyers at New York Rangers odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Wednesday’s Philadelphia Flyers at New York Rangers NHL odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Philadelphia Flyers (14-9-3) wrap up a two-game set on the road against the New York Rangers (11-12-4) Wednesday with a 7:30 p.m. ET puck drop at Madison Square Garden. Below, we analyze the Flyers-Rangers odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

Flyers at Rangers: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 7:10 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Flyers -130 (bet $130 to win $100) | Rangers +110 (bet $100 to win $110)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Flyers -1.5 (+200) | Rangers +1.5 (-250)
  • Over/Under: 6 (O: -115 | U: -105)

Flyers at Rangers: Projected starting goalies

Carter Hart (7-6-3, 3.62 GAA, .884 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Alexandar Georgiev (4-4-2, 3.33 GAA, .887 SV%, 1 SO)

Hart allowed four goals on 24 shots in a 5-4 overtime victory at Madison Square Garden in the front end of the back-to-back. He is 1-0-1 with a 2.82 GAA and .895 SV% in two starts against the Blueshirts this season. In March, however, he is just 1-3-0 with a 4.39 GAA and .828 SV% in five starts.

Georgiev has coughed up seven goals on the past 20 shots he has faced, getting pulled in each of his past two outings. He did top the Flyers Feb. 18 in Philadelphia, winning 3-2 in a shootout.

Flyers at Rangers: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Flyers 4, Rangers 3

Money line (ML)

The FLYERS (-130) are worth a look on the road against the Rangers (+110), as it is hard to trust Georgiev since he has gotten the hook in the past two outings. Toss in the fact the Flyers are 11-2 in the past 13 meetings, and 5-0 in the past five visits to MSG, and that makes Philadelphia look awfully good.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The Flyers -1.5 (+200) could be considered for a small-unit wager, but they won last time out in OT, and each of their past three wins, and four of the past six, have been by just one goal. PASS.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 6 (-115) is worth a roll of the dice based upon Georgiev’s recent play, as well as the fact Hart coughs up more than three goals per contest. The Over is on a four-game run for the Fly Guys and 7-1 across the past eight overall. The Over has edged the Under 3-2-2 in the past seven for the Blueshirts.

Philadelphia Flyers at New York Rangers odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Monday’s Philadelphia Flyers at New York Rangers NHL odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Philadelphia Flyers (13-9-3) kick off a two-game set on the road against the New York Rangers (11-12-3) Monday with a 7 p.m.

Lines last updated at 8:25 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Flyers -115 (bet $115 to win $100) | Rangers +100 (bet $100 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Flyers -1.5 (+220) | Rangers +1.5 (-275)
  • Over/Under: 6 (O: -115 | U: -105)

Flyers at Rangers: Projected starting goalies

Carter Hart (6-6-3, 3.60 GAA, .887 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Igor Shesterkin (6-7-1, 2.31 GAA, .921 SV%)

Hart has taken the circuitous route to a .500 record. He started out well, picking up victories in his first two starts, and he hasn’t won consecutive outings since. The good news is that he has lost back-to-back starts in regulation just once this season, too, as he has mostly been spinning his wheels in neutral. He has just one appearance against the Rangers, stopping 31 of 33 shots in a 3-2 shootout loss Feb. 18 at Wells Fargo Center.

Shesterkin has been battling a mild groin strain, and he hasn’t played since March 4 when he was injured against the New Jersey Devils. He will be looking for redemption after losing in Philadelphia Feb. 24, allowing four goals on 39 shots. Shesterkin had won back-to-back starts to kick off March before he was hurt.

Flyers at Rangers: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Flyers 3, Rangers 2

Money line (ML)

The FLYERS (-115) have dropped four of the past five games, but they look to get well against the Rangers (+100). Philly is 1-0-1 in two games against New York this season, including a 4-3 win in the most recent meeting Feb. 24 as favorites. The Rangers have dropped three of the past four, as well, Shesterkin could be rusty in his potential return, and the offense has averaging just 1.8 goals per game over the previous four.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The Flyers -1.5 (+220) are a tempting play on the road, but both of the previous meetings have been decided by one goal, and there is no reason to risk it. Plus, Philly has been outscored 21-16 in the past five, so confidence isn’t terribly high that they’ll be able to rattle off a multi-goal win. PASS.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 6 (-105) is the lean in this one despite Philadelphia’s 6-1 Over run across the past seven. New York has had a power outage on offense, totaling just seven goals over the past four games, and they have allowed 13. The Under is 2-0-2 in the past four for the Blueshirts. The Under is also 7-2 in the past nine at home for the Rangers at MSG.

Washington Capitals at Philadelphia Flyers odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Thursday’s Washington Capitals at Philadelphia Flyers NHL odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Washington Capitals (15-6-4) play the first game of a two-game road set against the Philadelphia Flyers (13-7-3) Thursday at Wells Fargo Center Center. Puck drop will be shortly after 7 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Capitals-Flyers odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

The Caps and Flyers are second and fifth, respectively, in the tight East Division. The season series is tied 1-1 with Philly winning 7-4 Feb. 7 and Washington evening it up with a 3-1 victory Sunday.

The Flyers are coming off a 5-4 overtime win over the Buffalo Sabres Tuesday. The Capitals followed their win over the Flyers with a 5-4 overtime victory of their own against the New Jersey Devils Tuesday.

Capitals at Flyers: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 12:20 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Capitals -110 (bet $110 to win $100) | Flyers -105 (bet $105 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Capitals -1.5 (+230) | Flyers +1.5 (-300)
  • Over/Under: 6.5 (O: -105 | U: -115)

Capitals at Flyers: Projected starting goalies

Ilya Samsonov (3-0-1, .907 SV%, 2.45 GAA) vs. Brian Elliott (7-2-0, .919 SV%, 2.29 GAA)

Samsonov has won back-to-back starts since returning in late February from a lengthy stay within the NHL’s COVID-19 protocols. He stopped 36 of 37 Flyers shots in Sunday’s victory. All five of his games thus far have been on the road.

Elliott allowed 4 goals on 27 shots in a loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins Saturday, but he was thrust back into action Tuesday against the Buffalo Sabres after starter Carter Hart allowed 3 goals on just 8 shots. Elliott stopped 11 of the 12 shots he faced and was credited with a win earned by the Philly offense.

Capitals at Flyers: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Capitals 4, Flyers 2

Money line (ML)

Back Samsonov and the CAPITALS (-110) to run it back following Sunday’s solid victory. The Caps registered 58.44% of the total shot attempts and 60.61% of the scoring chances at 5-on-5 in the 3-1 win.

Washington is better than Philadelphia in both metrics for the season as a whole. Elliott is the better of the two Philly netminders, but Samsonov is returning to his breakout 2019-20 form and should be given the edge in this goaltending battle.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

Both power-play and penalty-kill rates favor the Capitals, but the Flyers are the better-disciplined team with just 7.0 penalty minutes served per game. Both teams draw just 7.6 penalty minutes per game from their opponents.

The CAPITALS -1.5 (+230) can be backed with a small bet for a win by 2 or more goals, but the money line is the significantly stronger play. It’ll likely require a late empty-netter from the Caps for a multi-goal win.

Over/Under (O/U)

Even with the threat of the empty-net tally and a multi-goal win for the Caps, back the UNDER 6.5 (-115) in a strong goalie matchup.

There shouldn’t be many penalties in this tight-fought rivalry game, and full-strength scoring will be held in check.

Washington Capitals at Philadelphia Flyers odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Sunday’s Washington Capitals at Philadelphia Flyers NHL odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Washington Capitals (13-6-4) will play the final game of their five-game road trip Sunday by visiting the Philadelphia Flyers (12-6-3) in an East Division clash at Wells Fargo Center. Puck drop will be shortly after 7 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Capitals-Flyers odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

The Capitals started this trip 3-0 before suffering an embarrassing 5-1 loss to the Boston Bruins Friday. Washington hasn’t dropped back-to-back games since losing four in a row to start February. It’ll look to avenge a 7-4 loss to these Flyers on home ice as part of that prior skid.

The Flyers are on the second half of a back-to-back after losing 4-3 on the road against the Pittsburgh Penguins Saturday. The game was tied through 50 minutes before Penguins C Jared McCann netted the winner.

Capitals at Flyers: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 12:10 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Capitals -105 (bet $105 to win $100) | Flyers -110 (bet $110 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Capitals +1.5 (-250) | Flyers -1.5 (+200)
  • Over/Under: 6 (O: -120 | U: +100)

Capitals at Flyers: Projected starting goalies

Ilya Samsonov (2-0-1, .877 SV%, 2.87 GAA) vs. Carter Hart (6-4-3, .893 SV%, 3.49 GAA)

Samsonov will return to the crease after stopping six of seven shots in a relief appearance against the Bruins Friday. He last started last Sunday against the New Jersey Devils and stopped 19 of 21 shots in a victory.

Hart has been losing playing time to backup Brian Elliott but gets the nod in the second end of the back-to-back. He allowed 5 goals on 27 shots in a loss to the Penguins Tuesday. He gave up 4 goals on 37 shots in a road win over the Capitals Feb. 7.

Capitals at Flyers: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Capitals 4, Flyers 3

Money line (ML)

The CAPITALS (-105) are the play as slight road underdogs. They’ve had a day to rest and recover from Friday’s tough loss, while the Flyers are on short rest with travel back from Saturday’s loss in Pittsburgh.

The Caps outshot the Flyers 37-23 in their previous meeting this season. Starter Vitek Vanecek allowed 4 goals on 14 shots and backup Craig Anderson allowed another 2 tallies on 8 shots in relief. Philly then added a late empty-netter.

Back Washington with the flip to Samsonov for Sunday’s game.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

PASS on the spread. The value is in backing the Capitals to pull the road upset rather than laying the -250 for 1 goal of insurance.

This projects as another high-scoring game. That could skew the result with a lack of discipline or late empty-net markers.

Over/Under (O/U)

Bet the OVER 6 (-120) even though Samsonov should be expected to fare better than both Vanecek and Anderson in Game 1 of this season series.

He’s still a little rusty with just one start since returning from the COVID-19 list. Hart has looked little like his own self from the past two seasons at the Flyers’ end.

Philadelphia Flyers at Pittsburgh Penguins odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Tuesday’s Philadelphia Flyers at Pittsburgh Penguins NHL odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Pittsburgh Penguins (11-8-1) are hosting the Philadelphia Flyers (11-4-3) for a three-game set at PPG Paints Arena beginning Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Flyers-Penguins odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

Pittsburgh has gone 1-2-0 following a three-game winning streak. It played its last four games on the road and returns to home ice for the first time since Feb. 20.

Philadelphia has strung up three straight wins, including back-to-back 3-0 victories over the lowly Buffalo Sabres. Gs Carter Hart and Brian Elliott each recorded a shutout in that two-game set.

Flyers at Penguins: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 10:32 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Flyers -105 (bet $105 to win $100) | Penguins -110 (bet $110 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Flyers +1.5 (-275) | Penguins -1.5 (+230)
  • Over/Under: 6.5 (O: +100 | U: -120)

Flyers at Penguins: Projected starting goalies

Carter Hart (6-3-3, .899 SV%, 3.35 GAA) vs. Tristan Jarry (7-6-1, .894 SV%, 3.14 GAA)

Sunday’s performance against the Sabres was Hart’s best of the season and followed a loss against the Boston Bruins in which he allowed 6 goals on 23 shots and was pulled after two periods. He’s 2-1-2 in his last five games. He’s 2-0-0 in two starts against the Pens this season with 62 saves on 67 shots.

Jarry is 4-1-0 over his last five games and has returned to his breakout 2019-20 form. His most recent start was a win over the New York Islanders in which he allowed 3 goals on 27 shots. His season began with back-to-back road losses against these Flyers with a total of 9 goals allowed.

Flyers at Penguins: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Flyers 4, Penguins 2

Money line (ML)

The FLYERS (-105) come in with the winning streak, have at least a small edge in the goaltending battle and are 2-0 against the rival Pens this season with an 11-5 lead in total goals.

Rest is equal with both teams last playing Sunday; Pittsburgh was shut out 2-0 by the Islanders and Philly blanked the Sabres 3-0.

The Flyers remain at the bottom of the league in 5-on-5 Corsi For percentage (46.61) and scoring chances for (47.87) but they have the talent up front to be opportunistic on offense. Back Philly for a modest road upset.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

Go to the alternate line of FLYERS -1.5 (+240) for top value in this game. The Flyers are 11-7 against the spread for the season and beat the Penguins by a 3-goal margin in each of their first two head-to-head meetings.

Additionally, the Penguins are 0-4 in their last four outings when playing their third game in four days and the Flyers are 4-0-1 in that same situation.

Over/Under (O/U)

Back the UNDER 6.5 (-120) with both goaltenders slowly recovering from atrocious starts to the season. The Penguins played to the Under in five of their last seven games and the Flyers are coming off the back-to-back shutout victories.

New York Rangers at Philadelphia Flyers odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Wednesday’s New York Rangers at Philadelphia Flyers odds, with NHL betting picks and prediction.

The New York Rangers (6-7-3) travel to meet the Philadelphia Flyers (8-4-3) Wednesday for a 7 p.m. ET puck drop at Wells Fargo Center. Below we analyze the Rangers-Flyers odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

Rangers at Flyers: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 3:34 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Rangers +110 (bet $100 to win $110) | Flyers -130 (bet $130 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Rangers +1.5 (-250) | Flyers -1.5 (+200)
  • Over/Under: 5.5 (O: -115 | U: -105)

Rangers at Flyers: Projected starting goalies

Igor Shesterkin (4-5-1, 2.23 GAA, .922 SV%) at Brian Elliott (3-1-0, 2.25 GAA, .928 SV%, 1 SO)

Shesterkin has allowed two or fewer goals in six of his past seven starts, but offensive support has been an issue. He was backed with four goals Saturday at the Washington Capitals in a 4-1 win, but the Rangers totaled two goals in his previous three starts, including a pair of shutouts. This will be his first-career appearance against the Flyers.

Elliott was on the short end of a 2-1 loss against the Boston Bruins Friday, but he allowed just two goals on 23 shots. Sunday in the Lake Tahoe outdoor game, he didn’t start, but he came in for the ineffective G Carter Hart and stopped 11 of the 12 shots he faced in relief. In his four starts, the Flyers have outscored the opposition 13-8.

Rangers at Flyers: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Flyers 3, Rangers 2

Money line (ML)

The FLYERS (-130) are well rested, having a couple of days off since their outdoor game against the Bruins Sunday. They’re looking to rebound after a 7-3 loss in that game, which followed Thursday’s 3-2 shootout home loss to the Rangers before heading out west. Hart was the goaltender in each of those starts, but Elliott will likely be back in the crease for this one. The Flyers are 3-1 in Elliott’s four starts this season.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The Flyers -1.5 (-200) are a tempting play at this price as you have the opportunity to double up. But Philly is 1-2-2 across the past five, and that just doesn’t, or shouldn’t, make potential bettors feel warm and fuzzy inside. PASS.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 5.5 (-105) is the best play on the board here, cashing in each of New York’s past five on the road, while hitting in 16 of the past 21 overall. Philly has hit the Under in nine of its past 13 as a home favorite, and the Under is 6-2-1 in the previous nine meetings in this series, including 4-1-1 in the past six in the City of Brotherly Love.

Hart hasn’t been able to beat the Bruins in Boston or Philadelphia. Now he’ll hope to get it done in the high country near Lake Tahoe. In three starts against the B’s, Hart has posted a 0-1-2 record, 4.53 GAA and .865 SV%. That’s the bad news. The good news is that Hart hasn’t lost in regulation in his past five starts since Jan. 23 in Boston.

Rask in confirmed to be in the crease for the Bruins. He has had a flare for the dramatic this season as six of his nine starts have been decided in either overtime or a shootout. He is 3-1 in overtime and 2-0 in shootouts. He is a perfect 3-0-0 with a 2.60 GAA and .893 SV% in three starts against Philly.

Flyers vs. Bruins: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Bruins 4, Flyers 1

Money line (ML)

The Bruins (-200) will cost you two times your potential return, and that’s risky business given the neutral site and potential difficult ice conditions. The game was moved from 3 p.m. ET to 7:30 p.m. ET after Saturday’s Vegas Golden Knights-Colorado Avalanche showdown in Stateline was delayed and finished in the evening as they played just one period in the midday sun. AVOID.

Against the spread (ATS)

The BRUINS -1.5 (+140) are a better play on the puck line than the money line, especially since Hart has struggled so much against the B’s this season. Again, the ice conditions and neutral site are concerning, but given Boston’s dominance against Philly in every other venue, why should Tahoe be any different?

Over/Under (O/U)

The lean is to the UNDER 5.5 (-110). The Under cashed in Saturday’s 11-hour odyssey between the Avs and Golden Knights. The Under also cashed in last season’s game at the Air Force Academy between Colorado and the Los Angeles Kings. The Under is actually 3-1 in the past four NHL games played outside.

Of course, the last time Philly played on home ice in the Stadium Series outdoors, it hit the Over in a 4-3 overtime win over the Pittsburgh Penguins Feb. 23, 2019. The last time the B’s were outside, they topped the Chicago Blackhawks 4-2 at Notre Dame Stadium Jan. 1, 2019.

New York Rangers at Philadelphia Flyers odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Thursday’s New York Rangers at Philadelphia Flyers NHL odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The New York Rangers (4-7-3) will finally hook up with the Philadelphia Flyers (8-3-2) Thursday for a 7 p.m. ET puck drop at Wells Fargo Center after Sunday’s scheduled game in the Big Apple was postponed due to COVID-19 issues throughout the Flyers roster. Below, we analyze the Rangers-Flyers NHL odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

The Flyers have had four games delayed due to COVID concerns and haven’t played since a 7-4 win over the Washington Capitals Feb. 7. Six players remain on the COVID list, including C Claude Giroux and RW Jakub Voracek.

The Rangers took a 5-2 loss against the New Jersey Devils Tuesday and have lost four straight games while having two scheduled contests postponed until unspecified dates later in the season.

Rangers at Flyers: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 11:11 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Rangers -105 (bet $105 to win $100) | Flyers -110 (bet $110 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Rangers +1.5 (-275) | Flyers -1.5 (+230)
  • Over/Under: 6 (O: +100 | U: -120)

Rangers at Flyers: Projected starting goalies

Igor Shesterkin (3-5-1, .918 SV%, 2.36 GAA) vs. Carter Hart (5-2-2, .897 SV%, 3.49 GAA)

Shesterkin’s numbers to begin his second year in the league are much better than his record, but he has been undone by a .853 save percentage with the Rangers shorthanded. He has allowed more than 2 goals in just one of his last six starts and is in desperate need of some goal support.

Hart has been a disappointment thus far in the season and is 5-2-2 only because of an abundance of goal support. He allowed 4 goals in each of his last two starts and managed to go 1-0-1. He has given up 11 power-play goals on just 40 shots with the Flyers shorthanded.

Rangers at Flyers: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Rangers 3, Flyers 2

Money line (ML)

Give the advantage to Shesterkin in the goalie duel and back the RANGERS (-105) as slight underdogs on the road against the shorthanded Flyers.

The Flyers are third in the league in goals scored per game (3.54), but they’re 22nd in goals allowed (3.08). The Rangers also feature the league’s ninth-best penalty kill at an 82.98% success rate despite taking the ninth-most penalty minutes per game.

Philadelphia is last in 5-on-5 Corsi For percentage at 44.55% and while New York is also sub-50%, the Rangers have small edges in both scoring chances for and expected goals for at full strength.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

PASS on the spread. The 1.5 line is far too expensive to back the Rangers for just one goal of insurance. Take them to win outright in a game nearly priced as a pick ’em.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 6 (-120) is a strong play. Shesterkin should be up to the task of slowing down the Flyers offense and the Rangers struggling offense should allow Hart to turn in one of his better performances of late.

The Flyers are 9-4 against the O/U but the Rangers are 4-10. The Philly offense remains shorthanded and the Flyers are likely to be somewhat disjointed due to their erratic schedule of late.

Boston Bruins at Philadelphia Flyers odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Friday’s Boston Bruins at Philadelphia Flyers NHL odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Boston Bruins (7-1-2) and Philadelphia Flyers (7-2-2) get back to it Friday with a 7 p.m. ET puck drop at Wells Fargo Center. The Bruins came away with a 4-3 overtime win over the Flyers Wednesday after falling behind 3-1. Below, we analyze the Bruins-Flyers NHL odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Bruins at Flyers: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 12:25 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Bruins -140 (bet $140 to win $100) | Flyers +120 (bet $100 to win $120)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Bruins -1.5 (+190) | Flyers +1.5 (-250)
  • Over/Under: 5.5 (O: -115 | U: -105)

Bruins at Flyers: Projected starting goalies

Tuukka Rask (4-1-1, .888 SV%, 2.57 GAA) vs. Brian Elliott (3-0-0, .932 SV%, 2.22 GAA)

Rask stopped 22 of 25 shots faced in Wednesday’s win over the Flyers. It was his third victory in his last four outings with the loss coming in overtime against the Washington Capitals Saturday. He has allowed 3 or 4 goals in three of those four games.

Elliott comes in for Friday’s game after starter Carter Hart allowed 4 goals on 35 shots in the overtime loss Wednesday. Elliott hasn’t been charged with a loss yet this season, but he allowed 3 goals in each of his last two outings.

Bruins at Flyers: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Flyers 4, Bruins 3

Money line (ML)

The FLYERS (+120) are worth a shot for the upset on home ice after letting a 2-goal lead slip away Wednesday. The Bruins dominated puck possession with 53.68% of all shot attempts, including blocked and missed shots, at 5-on-5, but the Flyers had 58.33% of the even-strength scoring chances.

Boston was also opportunistic in scoring on 3 of 4 power-play opportunities. Even at a 28th-ranked 70.73% success rate, the Flyers penalty kill should be better than that.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The FLYERS +1.5 (-250) can also be backed for the insurance on the puck line with a small wager. Their last three games have gone to extra time, and they won two of those over the Islanders. The Bruins are 4-0-1 in their last five games, and three of those went to overtime.

These teams met for a two-game set in Boston Jan. 21 and 23; Boston won the first game by a 5-4 score in a shootout.

Over/Under (O/U)

All three meetings between these two teams have seen at least 7 total goals scored. Rask should get right sooner than later, but there’s little reason to hope for the correction to come in this spot against the high-scoring Flyers.

Back the OVER 5.5 (-115).
