Co-leaders Patrick Cantlay and Rory McIlroy shot 5-under 65’s on Thursday and take a 1-stroke lead into Friday’s 2nd round at Pinehurst Resort & C.C. (Course No. 2; 7,543 yards, par 70). McIlroy is No. 3 in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings while Cantlay is No. 7.

Pre-tournament favorite Scottie Scheffler is tied for 34th place after shooting a 1-over 71. He opened at +333 to win and is now at +650. Defending champion Wyndham Clark, who won at 10-under 270, is tied for 65th place at 3-over 73. He opened at +6600 to win and is now at +30000 to win.

Before the last group tees off at 2:42 p.m. ET (6:30 a.m. -1 p.m. ET Peacock; 1-7 p.m. ET NBC), here are 3 other players to watch as they try to chase down the leaders.

Ludvig Aberg (+650): Golfweek’s No. 4 player, who opened at +5000, starts in 3rd place, 1 shot back after an opening 66. He tees off at 1:36 p.m. ET.

Bryson DeChambeau (+750): He starts tied for 4th place, 2 shots back at 3-under 67. Golfweek’s No. 6 player opened at +2000. He tees off at 7:40 a.m. ET.
