2021 WGC Match Play odds, predictions and PGA Tour picks

Analyzing the golf odds to win the 2021 WGC Match Play, with PGA Tour picks, predictions and best bets.

This week’s World Golf Championships-Dell Technologies Match Play will be the final event for most of the PGA Tour’s biggest names ahead of the 2021 Masters Tournament (April 8-11). Austin Country Club in Austin, Texas, hosts the bracket of 64 for the first time since 2019. Below, we look at the 2021 WGC Match Play odds and make our PGA Tour picks and predictions to win.

The 2020 Match Play was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and was not made up upon the Tour’s mid-June restart. As such, Kevin Kisner, who enters this week at 49th in the Golfweek/Sagarin world rankings, is the defending champion.

The Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship in the Dominican Republic hosts a field of 132 as this week’s alternate event.

Bryson DeChambeau (+1400)

DeChambeau comes into this week in top form following victory at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and a semi-disappointing T-3 finish at The Players Championship. He played this event only in 2019 when he was knocked out by group champion Marc Leishman in pool play.

DeChambeau leads the PGA Tour with 1.22 Strokes Gained: Off-the-Tee and 2.29 SG: Tee-to-Green through 30 measured rounds on the 2020-21 season. He averaged 0.69 and 0.94 SG: Putting at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and Players Championship, respectively.

The biggest threat on this side of the bracket is world No. 1 Dustin Johnson, but he’s likely to be looking ahead to defending his green jacket at Augusta National Golf Club in two weeks.

Viktor Hovland (+3000)

Hovland is likely to be tasked with a match against DeChambeau in Round 2 of the bracket format, but he has a very manageable pool in the group stage against Abraham AncerBernd Wiesberger and Kevin Streelman.

The 23-year-old Norwegian is already a two-time PGA Tour champion and will play in his first match-play event. He tied for second at the WGC-Workday Championship last month before a T-49 finish at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and missed cut at The Players.

He’s averaging 1.79 SG: Tee-to-Green per round through 41 measured rounds this season. He has broken 70 in 11 of his 22 rounds in 2021.

Carlos Ortiz (+10000)

The 29-year-old makes his WGC-Match Play debut after winning November’s Vivint Houston Open by two strokes over Matsuyama and Johnson. It was his first PGA Tour victory and gained him entry to his first Masters.

Ortiz missed the cut at The Players, but he previously tied for 15th at the WGC-Workday Championship and has a top finish of T-4 this year in a strong field at the Waste Management Phoenix Open.

2021 Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship odds, predictions and PGA Tour picks

Analyzing the golf odds to win the 2021 Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship, with PGA Tour picks, predictions and best bets.

With the PGA Tour’s top golfers competing in this week’s WGC-Match Play in Austin, Texas, an alternate field is in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, for the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship. Below, we look at the 2021 Corales Puntacana Championship odds and make our PGA Tour picks and predictions to win.

Corales Golf Course hosts the field of 132 as Hudson Swafford tries to defend his fall title. Lee Hodges is the top golfer in attendance while ranked 54th in the Golfweek/Sagarin world rankings as of Monday, March 15.

While this week’s winner isn’t guaranteed an invitation with this being an alternate event, the 2021 Masters is just two weeks away. The Valero Texas Open takes place next week at TPC San Antonio.

Will Gordon (+3500)

Gordon missed the cut in his debut at this event in September, but he has made the cut six of eight events to begin 2021, including each of his last four tournaments. His top finish of 2020 was a T-3 showing in a loaded field at the Travelers Championship.

He tied for 36th in a stronger field than this last week at The Honda Classic and has a top finish this year of T-21 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. He averaged 1.31 Strokes Gained: Off-the-Tee per round last week with a respectable 0.37 SG: Putting per round. He’ll need to lean on those two areas of his game in the Dominican Republic.

2021 Corales Puntacana Championship picks – Contender

Tyler McCumber (+5000)

McCumber is this week’s field leader in strokes gained on the field per round at Corales Golf Course. He tied for 19th in 2018 and finished as the runner-up at minus-17 in September.

He missed the cut in four of his next five events following that runner-up finish, but he comes off a tie for 33rd last week in Florida; it followed a T-22 showing in the elite Players Championship field. Putting has been a weakness on the 2020-21 PGA Tour season, but he’s gaining strokes off-the-tee and from tee-to-green.

The 29-year-old has six professional wins on the Canadian and Latino America tours. Look for him to break through against this weak field at a course where he’s had his best success to date.

2021 Corales Puntacana Championship picks – Long shot

Dominic Bozzelli (+40000)

These weak fields are a good time to target long shots without true favorites on the board. A $10 bet on Bozzelli would return a profit of $4,000 with a tournament victory.

Bozzelli, 29, won this event in 2016 when it was part of the WEB.com Tour (now Korn Ferry Tour) schedule. He tied for 39th in 2019 and for 56th last year as a PGA Tour event.

His current form is a disaster with four missed cuts and a withdrawal through his last three PGA Tour and two KFT events, but he has six career top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour. The site of his only professional win warrants a small wager at these long odds.

2021 Honda Classic odds, predictions and PGA Tour picks

Analyzing the golf odds to win the 2021 Honda Classic, with PGA Tour picks, predictions and best bets.

PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, once again plays host to The Honda Classic. Defending champion Sungjae Im fronts this week’s field following Justin Thomas’ victory at The Players Championship. Below, we look at the 2021 Honda Classic odds and make our PGA Tour picks and predictions to win.

Many of the PGA Tour’s biggest names are taking this week off following The Players Championship. The WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play runs next week in Austin, Texas. The 2021 Masters Tournament is just three weeks away.

Daniel Berger is the top golfer in attendance from the Golfweek/Sagarin world rankings. The winner of the 2021 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am is this week’s betting favorite at +1000. Dustin JohnsonBryson DeChambeau and Jordan Spieth are among those taking this week off in preparation for the match play and the Masters.

Sungjae Im (+1200)

Im’s second by the odds behind Berger following a T-17 finish last week at TPC Sawgrass. He won this event by one stroke over Mackenzie Hughes (+8000) at 6-under par last year. He tied for 51st in his 2019 tournament debut at PGA National.

Improved putting was the biggest reason for Im’s climb up the leaderboard from 2019 to 2020. He averaged 1.15 Strokes Gained: Putting per round last week and was fourth in the field among those to make the cut with 1.06 SG: Off-the-Tee per round.

Im has played the weekend in each of his eight events thus far in 2021 and this is the weakest field in several weeks. He’s well-positioned to defend his title.

2021 Honda Classic picks – Contender

Doug Ghim (+5500)

Ghim remains a betting value after back-to-back quality showings at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players Championship.

He entered the final round of both events near the top of the leaderboard, but he struggled each of the past two Sundays, shooting 81 at the API and 78 at The Players. Those nerves may be relaxed this week against the lesser field and with his experience of the last two weeks.

He missed the cut here last year with a woeful putting performance, but he averaged 1.85 SG: Tee-to-Green and 1.19 SG: Approach per round last week. He has missed the cut in just two of his last 11 events dating back to last fall.

2021 Honda Classic picks – Long shot

Nick Taylor (+10000)

Taylor will make just his second appearance at PGA National following a T-30 finish in 2019. He tied for 48th in last week’s loaded field while ranking ninth among those to make the cut with 1.20 SG: Approach per round.

Putting hurt him last week, but he had success on these greens in 2019 when ranking fifth in the field with 1.64 SG: Putting per round. Improvement with the flat stick and a repeat performance of his approach game could have Taylor return to the winner’s circle for the third time in his PGA Tour career,

2021 Arnold Palmer Invitational odds, predictions and PGA Tour picks

Analyzing the golf odds to win the 2021 Arnold Palmer Invitational, with PGA Tour odds, picks, predictions and best bets.

A PGA Tour field of 123 golfers is at Bay Hill Club & Lodge this week for the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Collin Morikawa isn’t in attendance following his victory at last week’s WGC-Workday Championship. Below, we look at the 2021 Arnold Palmer Invitational odds and make our PGA Tour picks and predictions to win.

Tyrrell Hatton (+1800) returns to Bay Hill to defend his 2020 API title. It was his first career PGA Tour victory, but he has two wins on the European Tour since the beginning of last year, as well. Viktor Hovland is the top player in the field by the Golfweek/Sagarin world rankings.

The field is strong for the marquee event but has several notable omissions, including Dustin Johnson. It’s a busy stretch of the PGA Tour schedule in the run-up to the 2021 Masters Tournament. The Players Championship takes place next week at TPC Sawgrass.

Francesco Molinari (+2800)

Molinari returns to the site of his most recent PGA Tour victory, having won this event in 2019. He didn’t defend his title last year, as he withdrew due to a back injury and played just seven events in 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

He has been much more active early in 2021 and has three top-10 finishes in four events, including a T-8 at The Genesis Invitational two weeks ago. He’s averaging 0.55 Strokes Gained: Approach and 0.51 SG: Around-the-Green per round on the 2020-21 season.

The former Open Championship winner has 28 career rounds played at Bay Hill and ranks fourth in this field with an average of 2.23 strokes gained on the field per round.

2021 Arnold Palmer Invitational picks – Contender

Alex Noren (+9000)

Noren missed the cut in this event last year despite gaining 2.13 strokes around the green over the first two rounds, as he lost 2.30 strokes per round off the tee. His driver continues to be a problem this season, but he has been strong on and around the putting surfaces.

Once ranked as high as eighth in the Official World Golf Ranking, Noren enters this week at No. 95 following a quality T-12 finish in a comparable field at The Genesis Invitational.

2021 Arnold Palmer Invitational picks – Long shot

Henrik Stenson (+10000)

Stenson’s 44 career rounds played at this venue are the eighth-most in this field. His average of 2.00 strokes gained on the field per round are tops in that group and sixth among those with a minimum of 10 career rounds played here.

He missed the cut in two of his last four appearances at the API, but he has five top-10 finishes since 2013, including a fourth-place result in 2018. He’ll make his 2021 PGA Tour debut following back-to-back missed cuts at the European Tour’s Saudi International and Omega Dubai Desert Classic.

His form doesn’t inspire confidence but the familiar venue should get him back on track as he begins to gear up for the Masters.

2021 WGC Workday Championship odds, predictions and PGA Tour picks

Analyzing the golf odds to win the 2021 WGC Workday Championship, with PGA Tour odds, picks, predictions and best bets.

The World Golf Championships-Mexico Championship was pushed north of the border this year due to COVID-19. The event will be played at The Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Florida, as the WGC-Workday Championship. Below, we look at the 2021 Workday Championship odds and make our PGA Tour picks and predictions to win.

The 72-man field includes each of the top-15 golfers in the Golfweek/Sagarin world rankings. Patrick Reed (No. 15) looks to defend his WGC title in Mexico last year. Max Homa (No. 68) comes off a victory at last week’s Genesis Invitational.

The event takes center stage this week with the Puerto Rico Open hosting an alternate field at Grand Reserve Country Club in Rio Grande.

Bryson DeChambeau (+2000)

DeChambeau missed the cut last week at 2-over par. It was his first MC since The Northern Trust at the beginning of last season’s FedEx Cup Playoffs. He slipped to 11th in the Golfweek rankings but has the eighth-best odds to win this week.

He won the 2015 NCAA Championship hosted here and has an experience edge over most of the field with this being the first PGA Tour event played at The Concession. DeChambeau also ranks second on Tour for the 2020-21 season with 2.32 Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green per round.

The reigning US Open champ was the runner-up at last year’s WGC in Mexico and later tied for 30th at the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational. His all-or-nothing style is well-suited to the no-cut format of WGC events.

Zalatoris continues to fly up the Golfweek rankings and is No. 9 following his T-15 finish at the Genesis Invitational. He has finished outside the top 17 in just one of four events to open his 2021 schedule.

The 24-year-old one-time Korn Ferry Tour winner has never played in a WGC event, but he tied for sixth at last year’s US Open against all of the same top competition. His odds are inflated from other events this season, but he has already proven his worth against similarly strong fields.

Lee Westwood (+12500)

Westwood, 47, hasn’t won on the PGA Tour since 2010, but he won last year’s Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship on the European Tour over many of the world’s top golfers.

The veteran is averaging 0.46 SG: Putting through 19 measured rounds to go with 0.29 SG: Off-the-Tee. He tied for 13th at last year’s US Open and was the runner-up at the Euro Tour’s marquee DP World Tour Championship, Dubai, in mid-December. Wallace has never won on the PGA Tour, but he’s a four-time champion on the European Tour, including three victories in 2018. He’s making his debut in this event against much weaker competition than he usually sees.

Wallace is typically strong on and around the green, and he’s averaging 0.25 Strokes Gained: Approach through 17 measured rounds this season as an improvement on a weakness from last year.  He had two runner-up finishes on the Euro Tour last year, and his T-4 at the Memorial Tournament came against one of the strongest fields of the 2019-20 season.

He’s No. 76 in the Golfweek/Sagarin world rankings as one of the top-ranked golfers in the field but offers adequate value with a share of the third-best odds to win.

Ventura comes into this week off of seven missed cuts in his last eight events dating back to last fall. The 25-year-old tied for 20th in this event last year after missing the cut in his 2019 debut.

He’s struggling on approach to the green and with his short game, but he remains a top putter with 0.65 SG: Putting per round through 18 measured rounds this season. He had two top-10 finishes on each of the PGA Tour and Korn Ferry Tour last year, and he had two KFT wins in 2019.

He later tied for 11th at the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship against slightly stronger competition than what’s in Puerto Rico this week.

AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am odds, predictions and PGA Tour picks

Analyzing the golf odds to win the 2021 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, with PGA Tour odds, picks, predictions and best bets.

The No. 1 golfer in the Official World Golf Ranking and reigning Masters champion, Dustin Johnson, returns to the PGA Tour following a victory at the European Tour’s Saudi International last week. He and a solid field of 156 golfers are at Pebble Beach Golf Links for the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Below, we look at the 2021 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am odds, and make our PGA Tour picks and predictions to win.

This year’s event will look considerably different due to COVID-19 protocols. There will be no Pro-Am portion of the tournament and golf will be played on just two courses – Pebble Beach Golf Links and Spyglass Hill Golf Course – instead of three. The cut will be made after the standard 36 holes instead of 54.

Johnson, who’s playing his first PGA Tour event on the mainland since his Masters victory, is a prohibitive betting favorite at BetMGM following his Saudi International win. He’s +350 as the only member of the top five in the Golfweek/Sagarin world rankings in attendance.

While acknowledging Johnson’s high chance of winning this event for the third time, we’ll look for some better value.

Jason Day (+3000)

Day has never won this event, but he was a co-runner-up in 2018 as one of six top-10 finishes in his last eight appearances. He missed the cut each of the last two weeks, but those performances have now helped to boost his odds at a course where he has had great success.

Day gained strokes off-the-tee, from tee-to-green and around-the-green last week, but he lost 2.62 strokes per round with the putter over his 36 holes. Trust in his driver and irons while expecting his putter to get right at a familiar venue.

2021 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am picks – Contender

Kyoung-Hoon Lee (+9000)

Lee was the co-runner-up to Brooks Koepka last week in Phoenix. He vaulted from No. 263 to No. 142 in the OWGR with his best-ever finish on the PGA Tour. He’s a two-time winner on the Japan Tour and previously had a top PGA Tour finish of T-5 at the 2019 RSM Classic.

Lee led the field last week in Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green and SG: Around-the-Green. His odds are far too high coming off of that well-rounded performance.

2021 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am picks – Long shot

Brian Gay (+25000)

Gay missed the cut in each of his last two events following a 72nd-place finish at the Sony Open in Hawaii and T-29 at the Sentry of Tournament of Champions, but he’s just four events removed from his victory at the Bermuda Championship, albeit in a much weaker field.

He tied for 38th last year, seventh in 2019 and eighth in 2018. He was solid from tee-to-green and on approach all three of those years and didn’t rely too heavily on his putter. Port Royal Golf Course, the home of the Bermuda Championship, was designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., who also designed Spyglass.

2021 Waste Management Phoenix Open odds, predictions and PGA Tour picks

Analyzing the golf odds to win the 2021 Waste Management Phoenix Open, with PGA Tour odds, picks, predictions and best bets.

The Waste Management Phoenix Open at TPC Scottsdale will look quite different this year with only 5,000 fans allowed on the grounds per day due to COVID-19 protocols. Still, a star-studded field is in attendance during the week of Super Bowl LV. Below, we look at the 2021 Waste Management Phoenix Open odds, and make our PGA Tour picks and predictions to win.

The field includes seven of the top-10 golfers in the Golfweek/Sagarin world rankings, as Webb Simpson tries to defend his 2020 title. Dustin Johnson (No. 2) and Bryson DeChambeau (No. 5) are competing in the European Tour’s Saudi International.

Hideki Matsuyama (+2200)

Matsuyama, who won here in 2016 and 2017, shares just the sixth-best odds this week. At No. 19, he’s the 12th-best golfer in the field by the measure of the Golfweek rankings. He finished just T-53 last week at the Farmers Insurance Open following a T-19 at the Sony Open in Hawaii.

Matsuyama struggled in all areas last week, but he’s averaging 1.51 Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green through 29 measured rounds on the 2020-21 PGA Tour season. He has been undone by 0.47 strokes lost per round with the putter. A return to a venue where he has had considerable success on the greens presents a get-right spot.

Matsuyama leads those in the field with a minimum of five rounds played at TPC Scottsdale with 2.87 strokes gained on the field per round. He tied for 16th here last year with 1.93 SG: Tee-to-Green and 1.50 SG: Approach per round. He lost 0.21 strokes per round putting.

2021 Waste Management Phoenix Open betting picks – Contender

Russell Henley (+6600)

Henley took last week off following a missed cut at The American Express in California. He previously tied for 11th at the Sony Open.

The 24th-ranked golfer in the Golfweek rankings played some of his best golf late last summer into the fall. Four of his six top-10 finishes in 2020 came between mid-August and late October. He’s 13th among all golfers with 1.69 SG: Tee-to-Green on the 2020-21 season.

The three-time PGA Tour winner missed the cut in four of the last seven runnings of this event, but he also has finishes of T-15 (2019) and T-16 (2017) mixed in. He has averaged 0.14 strokes gained on the field over 24 career rounds at TPC Scottsdale.

2021 Waste Management Phoenix Open betting picks – Long shot

Dylan Frittelli (+12500)

Frittelli is 96th in the Golfweek rankings following a T-53 finish last week. It was his first event of 2021 after he finished his 2020 schedule with a third-place finish in his home country’s South African Open three weeks after his surprise T-5 finish at the 2020 Masters.

He played this event for the first time last year and finished just T-63 with 1.81 strokes lost per round from tee-to-green and 1.34 strokes lost off-the-tee. He’s gaining strokes in both of those areas through 20 measured rounds (26 total) on the 2020-21 season.

His lone PGA Tour victory to date came at the John Deere Classic at TPC Deere Run. The courses grade similarly with an emphasis on driving accuracy.
