Here are the PlayStation Plus free games for October 2021

Mortal Kombat X, PGA Tour 2K21, and Let Hell Loose are free for PS Plus subscribers this month.

Well, it’s about time for a new round of free games courtesy of PlayStation Plus, and the offerings for October 2021 are looking mighty appealing. Whether you’re into chill times on the golf course, experiencing an epic theater of war, or cracking-skulls in otherwordly martial arts tournaments, PlayStation is here with the goods whether you’re on PS4 or PS5.

Please note that while the PS4 games are playable on PS5 via backward compatibility, you obviously can’t play PS5 titles on PS4. That kinda goes without saying, but just a heads up as one of these games is not available on PS4.

The PlayStation Plus games for October 2021 are:

Let Hell Loose (PS5) — A multiplayer tactical first-person shooter set in some of World War II’s most iconic battles on the Eastern and Western fronts. Over 100 players compete in 50v50 matches with 14 different roles, loads of different armor types, authentic weaponry, and equipment.

PGA Tour 2K21 (PS4) — Wanna prove you’ve got what it takes to be a PGA champion? Well, you can in this staggeringly realistic pro golfing simulation. Create your character and compete against other players of golf’s most famous real-world courses.

Mortal Kombat X (PS4) — This classic fighting game allows you to pit Jason Voorhees from Friday The 13th against iconic characters like Scorpion, Sub Zero, Johnny Cage, and Sonya Blade. Brimming with content and fantastic guest characters, this is a must-play for anyone that loves a good, messy brawl.

PGA Tour 2k21 is live, and if you love golf it’s worth your time

PGA Tour 2k21 has officially been released, and golf’s latest video game is worth your time if you love the game.

Grab a controller, golf fans, because PGA Tour 2k21 is officially here.

The latest golf video game developed by HB Studios launched on Friday and is available now on PlayStation, Xbox, Windows PC, Nintendo Switch and Stadia.

If you’re reading this you might be thinking, “why play a video game when you can go play an actual round of golf?” Well, because in real life I can’t play a round at Riviera Country Club in a foursome with Bryson DeChambeau, Tony Finau and Jim Furyk.

But I can do that and more with PGA Tour 2k21.

For those who are new to golf video games, PGA Tour 2k21 has tutorials, tips and shot suggestions to help you get started, while the veterans can take advance of advanced features to perfectly shape every shot.

You can play against a computer or against friends in a variety of matches, including alt-shot, stroke play, skins and even a four-player scramble. Team up with friends online and create an Online Society, where you can run full seasons of tournaments. Players can also create their very own player and enter Career Mode, where they’ll start on the Korn Ferry Tour and play their way to PGA Tour greatness.

Other professionals in the game include Gary Woodland, Sergio Garcia, Ian Poulter, Cameron Champ, Kevin Kisner, Billy Horschel and Patrick Cantlay.

The 15 licensed courses you can play

  • Atlantic Beach Country Club
  • Copperhead Course
  • East Lake Golf Club
  • Quail Hollow Club
  • Riviera Country Club
  • TPC Boston
  • TPC Deere Run
  • TPC Louisiana
  • TPC River Highlands
  • TPC San Antonio
  • TPC Sawgrass
  • TPC Scottsdale
  • TPC Southwind
  • TPC Summerlin
  • TPC Twin Cities

If those courses aren’t good enough for you and you fancy yourself a golf architect, put yourself in Donald Ross’ shoes and create your own track with the Course Designer feature.

While nothing can beat an actual round with friends or family (or the Tiger Woods game where you could play Augusta National), PGA Tour 2k21 is the next-best thing.

PGA Tour 2K21 impressions: What a sports sequel should be

The Golf Club has been reborn as PGA Tour 2K21 – set to release August 21st on PS4, Xbox One, PC and Switch.

There haven’t been many golf video games released on the current generation of consoles, but developer HB Studios’ The Golf Club series has emerged as the best option on the market – though gamers who grew up on the more arcade-style Tiger Woods games may have struggled with TGC’s more demanding controls. The Golf Club has been reborn as PGA Tour 2K21 – set to release August 21st on PS4, Xbox One, PC and Switch – and HB Studios has taken several welcome steps to make video game golf much more accessible to everyone, while also preserving a serious challenge for the hardcore crowd.

FTW got the chance to play a preview version of PGA Tour 2K21 before its release later this month (on PC), and I’ll cut to the chase. PGA Tour 2K21 is good. It’s really good. It’s a major step up from The Golf Club 2019 in several areas, and it’s the type of jump gamers are hoping for whenever they buy a new Madden or FIFA game.

The awkwardly-named The Golf Club 2019 featuring PGA Tour did just that with regards to its PGA Tour license. You could play through a PGA Tour career – but the PGA Tour didn’t feel fully integrated into the game. PGA Tour 2K21 has raised the bar for presentation and implementation of actual PGA Tour players, and it has kept me invested into playing through the career mode this time around. As in previous games, you create your own player to compete against the best golfers in the world, and can choose to start your career either on the Korn Ferry Tour or the PGA Tour.

In 2K21, 12 actual PGA Tour pros – including cover star Justin Thomas, Bryson DeChambeau, Tony Finau and Patrick Cantlay – have been scanned and are represented in the game. During your rounds on Tour, you’ll periodically be shown a highlight reel shot from one of the 12 pros in between holes, which adds to the feel that you’re following an actual broadcast. If anything, these cutaways happen too frequently, but they’re a nice touch. The leaderboard will be filled with other PGA Tour pros, including the ones who aren’t officially on the game’s roster of pros.

The gameplay has gone through some huge changes to make the game more accessible, and fans of the old Tiger Woods games – or even Everybody’s Golf – should feel more at home. By default, there is a power meter at the bottom of the screen that guides you on how far you should pull the club back, which makes choosing your club and executing much more straightforward than it used to be. The power meter is also present on the green, which means you won’t have to rely entirely on feel as you did in previous entries of The Golf Club. There’s also a comprehensive tutorial at the start to get you up to speed. If you want more of a challenge, though, you can opt to turn all of the power meters off for a more traditional experience.

PGA Tour 2K21 welcomes new commentators to the series, Luke Elvy and Rich Beem, who do a fine job calling your career mode rounds. Commentary has always been a weak point of The Golf Club series, but Elvy and Beem are a big upgrade. Strangely, though, Elvy and Beem only appear in the career mode, but do not call any one-off rounds you set up, or rounds that will be played in societies mode. For those rounds, PGA Tour 2K21 relies on John McCarthy, who returns from previous games, but has a style that is far too casual for my taste. Apart from some event-specific lines Elvy and Beem recite at the start or the end of rounds in career mode, they seemingly should be able to serve as default commentators in every mode, and it’d be great to see HB Studios allow players to toggle between commentators outside of career mode.

A major strength of PGA Tour 2K21 is its course creator, which has been improved with hundreds of new assets you can use to turn your course design into a Tour-quality track. Even if you don’t have the desire to make your own course, you can play any published course from other creators (on any system), and within a few weeks, there will surely be hundreds of amazing player-created courses to play, in addition to the 15 licensed courses in the game.

Check out the official trailer and some more information on PGA Tour 2K21, available August 21, 2020.

If we’re all still being forced to quarantine in three months, at least we’ll have a new golf video game to play.

The game will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Windows PC via Steam, Nintendo Switch and Stadia.

“Being chosen to be the first-ever cover athlete for the premiere PGA Tour 2K game is a tremendous honor,” said Justin Thomas via a press release. “I’m excited to join the 2K family and challenge players everywhere on the digital links.”

Fifteen licensed Tour courses were scanned with cutting-edge technology to bring your favorite tracks to life. Tired of playing the same old courses? Use the Course Designer feature with thousands of custom options.

Thomas will be joined by 11 additional PGA Tour players, each of whom will present a challenge in the game’s PGA Tour Career Mode. Players can also create and personalize their MyPLAYERs with equipment and apparel from licensed brands including: adidas, Polo Ralph Lauren, Malbon Golf, Callaway Golf, Bridgestone Golf, TaylorMade Golf and more.

The game will be anchored by broadcaster Luke Elvy and analyst Rich Beem.

Never played a golf video game before? No problem. Real-time tutorials, tips and shot suggestions, as well as Pro Vision, Distance Control, Putt Preview and other innovations make the game playable for everyone.

Can’t play an actual round with friends who live far away? Take your game to online matches, including Alt-Shot, Stroke Play, Skins and 4-Player Scramble. On top of that, Online Societies encourages players to invite their squad to hit the clubhouse and run full seasons and tournaments.

So, is it August yet?

Check out the teaser trailer for a new golf video game, PGA Tour 2K21.

Ever wondered what it’s like to play the famed 17th island green at TPC Sawgrass?

While you won’t be able to actually play the hole itself for another couple of months, a new golf video game will give you the chance to tee it up alongside the pros.

On Wednesday morning, American video game publisher 2K released a teaser trailer across its social media platforms for PGA Tour 2K21. The clip is brief but shows a golfer on the tee at No. 17 while competing in the Players Championship. According to the trailer, more details will be made available on Thursday, May 14.

There’s a deep history in golf video games, the most-popular being Tiger Woods’ PGA Tour series from EA Sports in the early 2000s. EA also developed 2015’s Rory McIlroy PGA Tour.
