Johnny Eblen vs. Fabian Edwards prediction, pick, start time, odds for PFL: Battle of the Giants

Should we expect anything different from the last time Johnny Eblen and Fabian Edwards fought each other?

[autotag]Johnny Eblen[/autotag] and [autotag]Fabian Edwards[/autotag] meet Saturday on the main card of PFL: Battle of the Giants at The Mayadeen in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.. Check out this quick breakdown of the matchup from MMA Junkie analyst Dan Tom.

Johnny Eblen vs. Fabian Edwards PFL Super Fights preview

Eblen (15-0) hopes to stay undefeated by defending his Bellator middleweight title for the third time when he rematches Edwards (13-3). The last time these two met, it was competitive until Eblen found the knockout just 21 seconds into the third round. … Since that fight, Eblen won a split decision against 2023 PFL champion Impa Kasanganay this past February. … Edwards rebounded from his title-fight loss with a unanimous decision win over Aaron Jeffery this past March.

Johnny Eblen (15-0) vs. Fabian Edwards (13-3)

Johnny Eblen vs. Fabian Edwards expert pick, prediction

Their first fight, which went down in September of last year, was a very competitive contest that saw Eblen sustain a potentially fight-ending cut before emphatically finishing Edwards in the following frame.

Since then, both fighters have had to dig out hard-fought wins, but I believe that the fighting dynamic between these two has remained the same.

Edwards, for as talented as he is, is not urgent enough when it comes to both striking output and getting his back put to the fence.

For that reason, I have a hard time picking against a tactically flexible fighter like Eblen who will – at least in theory – always have the wrestling option in his back pocket.

The official pick is for Eblen to pitch a shutout on the scorecards with a unanimous decision win.

Johnny Eblen vs. Fabian Edwards odds

The oddsmakers and the public are heavily favoring the sitting champion, listing Eblen (-480) and Edwards (+330) via FanDuel.

Johnny Eblen vs. Fabian Edwards start time, how to watch

As the featured bout, Eblen and Edwards are expected to walk out to the cage at approximately 5:30 p.m. ET. The fight will stream on ESPN+ pay-per-view in the U.S. and DAZN pay-per-view internationally.

Cris Cyborg vs. Larissa Pacheco prediction, pick, start time, odds for PFL: Battle of the Giants

Will Cris Cyborg’s experience win out against the younger (and perhaps stronger) Larissa Pacheco at PFL: Battle of the Giants?

[autotag]Cris Cyborg[/autotag] and [autotag]Larissa Pacheco[/autotag] meet Saturday in the co-main event of PFL: Battle of the Giants at The Mayadeen in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.. Check out this quick breakdown of the matchup from MMA Junkie analyst Dan Tom.

Cris Cyborg vs. Larissa Pacheco PFL Super Fights preview

Cyborg, the reigning Bellator women’s champion at 145 pounds, is competing for the first time in a year, when she defeated Cat Zingano by first-round TKO at Bellator 300. Cyborg, 39, is a former UFC, Strikeforce and Invicta FC champion. She enters on a seven-fight winning streak, which includes five consecutive defenses of her Bellator title. Cyborg hasn’t lost since a December 2018 first-round knockout against Amanda Nunes at UFC 232. … Pacheco, 30, is coming off back-to-back PFL championship seasons at lightweight and featherweight. She brings a 10-fight winning streak into the matchup with Cyborg, which includes her 2022 lightweight title win over Kayla Harrison.

Cris Cyborg vs. Larissa Pacheco expert pick, prediction

2024 PFL Superfights PPV: Battle of the Giants at the Mayadeen Theater in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia, Thursday, Oct. 17, 2024. (Alvaro Martinez / PFL)

Both fighters have continued to find success since their stints with the UFC, particularly Pachecho – who was able to end her series with Kayla Harrison with a win.

Given that there is so much at stake for each woman’s legacies, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a more measured approach from both parties.

Cyborg, of course, most notably lost an important fight to Amanda Nunes due to getting over-aggressive, so don’t be shocked to see the former Strikeforce champion continue her subsequent trend of grappling-friendly approaches (especially when looking at Pacheco’s willingness to work from her back in previous fights).

Although Cyborg has also had success striking in recent professional boxing bouts, I’m not sure how eager she’ll be to exchange considering Pacheco’s counter-striking acumen. In fact, I believe that countering – akin to the main event – will be the major dynamic at play while this fight is on the feet.

For that reason, I’ll semi-reluctantly take the more experienced and tactically flexible fighter despite the age differential at hand.

Pacheco’s damaging style will be potent early, but the official pick is for Cyborg to win a competitive decision (with a strong potential for earning a stoppage down the stretch) by being the more effective grappler.

Cris Cyborg vs. Larissa Pacheco odds

Despite the oddsmakers opening this as a pick’em fight, public money has pushed the younger fighter to favorite odds, listing Pacheco (-130) and Cyborg (+102) via FanDuel.

Cris Cyborg vs. Larissa Pacheco start time, how to watch

As the co-main event, Cyborg and Pacheco are expected to walk out to the cage at approximately 6:15 p.m. ET. The fight will stream on ESPN+ pay-per-view in the U.S. and DAZN pay-per-view internationally.

Francis Ngannou vs. Renan Ferreira prediction, pick, start time, odds for PFL: Battle of the Giants

How will Francis Ngannou look in his return to MMA against the “enormously dangerous” Renan Ferreira at PFL: Battle of the Giants?

[autotag]Francis Ngannou[/autotag] and [autotag]Renan Ferreira[/autotag] meet Saturday in the main event of PFL: Battle of the Giants at The Mayadeen in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.. Check out this quick breakdown of the matchup from MMA Junkie analyst Dan Tom.

Francis Ngannou vs Renan Ferreira PFL Super Fights preview

Ngannou (17-3) hasn’t competed in MMA since successfully defending the UFC heavyweight championship against Ciryl Gane in January 2022. Ngannou fought Tyson Fury and lost a split decision then followed up that sterling performance by taking on Anthony Joshua this past March, a fight in which he was dominated and lost by second-round knockout. In MMA, Ngannou has won six fights in a row dating back to November 2018, with five finishes during that span. … Ferreira (13-3) is the reigning 2023 PFL heavyweight champion after scoring three knockouts last season. Ferreira is coming off a 21-second dismantling of Bellator heavyweight champ Ryan Bader this past February.

Francis Ngannou vs Renan Ferreira expert pick, prediction

A PFL heavyweight tournament winner who is already accruing an insane highlight reel, Ferreira has proven to be an undeniable force in this weight class.

Not only is Ferreira massive in all the measurements that are the primary talking points for MMA pundits and gamblers alike, but the Brazilian can move surprisingly well for a man of his size and skills only appear to be improving since he moved shop stateside to train at American Top Team.

Although Ferreira’s ground game is still a work in progress, “Problema” has been seemingly upgrading his striking presence a la Alex Pereira imitations in the way in which he’s jabbing to the body and kicking at calves.

These weapons, of course, will be a potent two-way street when facing a fighter with some length parity who can also jab and low kick.

Enter Ngannou.

Jan 22, 2022; Anaheim, California, USA; Francis Ngannou (red gloves) before his fight against Ciryl Gane during UFC 270 at Honda Center. Mandatory Credit: Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

Although MMA’s beloved lineal heavyweight champ was last seen hitting the canvas opposite Anthony Joshua in a boxing bout, it’s hard to question the life-changing power that Ngannou possesses.

From the lead-hand work he displayed against Stipe Miocic to the ability to adjust demonstrated against Ciryl Gane, Ngannou – with the help of bright minds like Eric Nicksick and company – will undoubtedly be the more flexible fighter from a tactical standpoint.

That said, for as natural as wrestling has seemingly come to Ngannou, it’s hard to know just how sharp those tools will be given everything that has been going on in his life (in and out of the ring).

For that reason, I can understand why anyone would be tempted to take a flier on the underdog in Ferreira.

Aside from heavyweight MMA being the most volatile sector of a volatile sport, Ferreira has legitimate counters that could hurt Ngannou that range from intercepting hooks to sneaky lifting knees. In fact, I believe that countering will be a key dynamic in this contest.

For as good as Ferreira’s offense is, the towering Brazilian is not beyond being countered. However, Ferreira is also at his best when he is the one with the striking initiative, so being able to take that away from the PFL tournament champion is also a big factor for those who have had success against him – – which is usually accomplished via a heavy wrestling-based attack.

I’m not sure if Ngannou can or will come out of the gate looking to wrestle, but I do suspect that those opportunities will naturally present themselves the longer this fight progresses. I also think that Ngannou’s countering presence will be a factor regarding winning or stalemating exchanges (as I wouldn’t be entirely shocked to see portions of this fight resemble the staring contest Ngannou had with Derrick Lewis).

Aggressive exchanges will be your usual heavyweight coin flip scenarios, but I can’t help but stick with Ngannou as far as a side goes.

My inherent bias toward Ngannou’s camp aside, Ngannou is the more proven product both on the feet and the floor.

I’ll be happy to see Ferreira get his guaranteed $2 million, but the official pick – so long as neither party immediately steals the other’s consciousness – is for Ngannou to drag things out a bit from a shaky start to find a ground-and-pound stoppage by the end of Round 3.

Francis Ngannou vs Renan Ferreira odds

Despite the oddsmakers opening the champion as a wider favorite, public money has come trickling in on the challenger, listing Ngannou (-310) and Ferreira (+225) via FanDuel.

Heavyweight superfight: Francis Ngannou vs. Renan Ferreira

PFL Super Fights: Battle of the Giants Press Conference at the The Anthem in Washington D.C., Thursday, Aug. 22, 2024. (Cooper Neill / PFL)

Francis Ngannou (17-3) is back in MMA for the first time since a decision win over Ciryl Gane in January 2022 at UFC 270, which marked his final UFC title fight. His contract expired after that and he eventually vacated the belt to leave the promotion for greener pastures in the PFL. He boxed Tyson Fury a year ago in Saudi Arabia for his debut in that sport and impressed with a split decision loss, but was knocked out by Anthony Joshua when he attempted a boxing follow-up in March.

[autotag]Renan Ferreira[/autotag] (12-3) won PFL’s 2023 $1 million heavyweight season with a second-round knockout of Denis Goltsov this past November. He’s always a threat with his hands with 11 of his 13 wins by KO, and that was his way to a quick and easy win over Bellator heavyweight champ Ryan Bader in February. The Brazilian took out Bader in just 21 seconds.

Women’s featherweight superfight: Cris Cyborg vs. Larissa Pacheco

Larissa Pacheco, Cris Cyborg

[autotag]Cris Cyborg[/autotag] (27-2) and her Bellator title take on [autotag]Larissa Pacheco [/autotag] (23-4), the reigning PFL women’s featherweight winner, in a battle of Brazilians. After 15 years of being a massive favorite against nearly everyone she faced, Cyborg is a slight underdog to Pacheco, who upset Kayla Harrison to win the 2022 PFL women’s lightweight season, then won the featherweight season in 2023. Cyborg has seven straight wins since her upset loss to Amanda Nunes nearly six years ago, including a first-round knockout of Cat Zingano at Bellator 300 a year ago.

Bellator middleweight title: Johnny Eblen vs. Fabian Edwards

Johnny Eblen def. Fabian Edwards, Bellator 299

Bellator middleweight champ Johnny Eblen (15-0) will put his title on the line against Fabian Edwards (13-3) in a rematch only 13 months after their first meeting. Eblen knocked out Edwards in thee third round of their first in Dublin at Bellator 299. Since then, Edwards beat Aaron Jeffery by decision in March in a title eliminator to get another shot. Eblen beat PFL champ Impa Kasanganay in a crossover fight in February to stay unbeaten.

Former Bellator featherweight champion A.J. McKee (22-1) will try to stay on track at lightweight when he takes on Paul Hughes (12-1) to open the main card. McKee is 4-0 since he moved to 155 pounds, and after three straight decisions got a 70-second armbar submission of Clay Collard in Saudi Arabia in February. Former Cage Warriors featherweight champ Hughes has six straight wins, including three straight by knockout.

Ex-Bellator bantamweight champ Raufeon Stots (20-2) returns to take on Marcos Breno (15-3) on the prelims. After he lost the 135-pound title to Patchy Mix in April 2023, Stots rebounded 11 months ago with a second win over rival Danny Sabatello. Breno’s most recent fight came against Sabatello, as well – but it was a second-round submission loss at Bellator 294, which snapped a modest three-fight winning streak.
