Former UNC wing continues career overseas

Paxson Wojcik will continue to play basketball overseas in Poland.

Former North Carolina Tar Heels’ wing Paxson Wojcik only played one season in Chapel Hill, joining the program as a transfer. With Wokcik’s dad being on the staff from 2000-03, it made sense for him to get to Chapel Hill and go back to his roots for his final college season.

Now, Wojcik is heading overseas to continue his basketball career.

Wojcik has signed a deal with Stal Ostrow Wielkopolski in Poland, a team that plays in the Polish Basketball League. The 24-year-old will join the team for the upcoming season, marking his next stop in his career overseas.

The guard played five years of college basketball with his first two at Loyola Chicago. From there he went to Brown for two seasons before ending it at North Carolina.

While he only averaged 1.6 points and 1 rebound per game for UNC, he had a big year for Brown in 2022-23. With Brown, he averaged 14.9 points and 7.2 rebounds per game, a career-high for him.

Wojcik’s father is currently an assistant coach at Michigan State. The two faced off when UNC beat Michigan State in the second round of the 2024 NCAA Tournament.

Armando Bacot reveals the spark in March Madness’ win over Michigan State

Armando Bacot explains where the spark came from after being down double digits in UNC’s March Madness win over Michigan State.

The UNC men’s basketball program has had a fruitful March Madness thus far, taking down Michigan State to advance to the Sweet 16.

One of the players leading the charge is [autotag]Armando Bacot[/autotag], who played a significant role in the Tar Heels March Madness run two seasons ago. In the win against Michigan State, Bacot poured in 18 points, marking the eighth time in as many NCAA tournament games he has scored in double digits.

The ending score screamed dominance, but that was far from the truth if you account for how the game started. It was UNC, who was behind double-digits early. Thankfully for Tar Heel fans, a spark happened. Following the game, Bacot met with the media to discuss that spark.

“I’ve been saying all year how deep of a team we are… Paxson (Wojcik), I mean he started that run, and without him, we don’t get that lead, especially early on,” Bacot said. “For him to go out there versus his dad’s team and make those huge plays, and that unselfish play where he had the layup and threw it out to RJ. It was kinda something like the Warriors we do…It got us going and the crowd going.”

In the win, Bacot tacked on seven rebounds, which ended his streak of NCAA tournament games with 15 rebounds or more. It was another solid outing by the Tar Heel fan favorite, and following the game, he reminded everyone that he predicted the program would be traveling to LA for the Sweet 16.

If the Tar Heels want to continue their run in the NCAA Tournament, not only will Bacot be important but the depth of UNC as well. If they can get consistent play from the bench, they will be a hard team to beat.

What went wrong in UNC’s loss to Clemson

A look back at UNC’s Tuesday night loss, taking a closer look at what went wrong for the Tar Heels.

The UNC men’s basketball program has their first home loss of the season, losing 80-76 to the Clemson Tigers.

A lot went wrong in the loss, and some concerning things were said following it. Before getting into what went wrong for the UNC basketball program, hats off to Clemson for never letting up, it was the first time UNC didn’t have a lead in the game since the 2022 home loss to Duke.

Despite never getting the lead, UNC flirted with getting in front of the Tigers, but couldn’t overcome their attack. Clemson also did a great job on switches, forcing UNC into questionable shot attempts, resulting in their second-lowest shooting percentage from the field (36.9%) of the season.

What else went wrong for UNC is the absence of [autotag]Seth Trimble[/autotag], who has been ideal off the bench all season. His defensive abilities and strong finishing at the rim were deeply needed.

Even with energy lacking, the fact that the Tar Heels only lost by four points despite arguably their worst game of the year tells you how good this team truly is. [autotag]Armando Bacot[/autotag] dominated for the second game in a row with 24 points and 13 rebounds. While [autotag]Paxson Wojcik[/autotag] stepped up in place of Trimble, finishing with the second-highest rebounds (6) on the team.

In the end, UNC went flat but wouldn’t be shocked if energy is pumped into them for Saturday’s game against the Miami Hurricanes. We saw how they looked coming off the Georgia Tech loss, expect the same from this one.

How to watch UNC basketball opener vs. Radford

The UNC men’s basketball team makes its long-awaited return to the court on Monday, Nov. 6, hosting Radford University at 7 p.m. ET.

UNC basketball fans – does it feel like Christmas morning?

If it doesn’t, it should.

After waiting eight months since one of the most disappointing seasons in school history ended, Carolina will finally kick-off its 2023-2024 campaign.

The Tar Heels welcome 3-time Big South Champion Radford University to the Dean Dome on Monday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. ET.

If UNC head coach Hubert Davis has his players fully prepared, UNC should be starting its season an easy 1-0. Carolina has enjoyed success in limited action against the Highlanders – beating them by 45 points on Dec. 4, 2016, plus dominating them by 43 points in its 2009 NCAA Tournament opener.

The Tar Heels return an experienced roster – headlined by Armando Bacot and R.J. Davis, plus bolstered by transfers Harrison Ingram, Cormac Ryan, Jae’Lyn Withers and Paxson Wojcik. Bacot should dominate a smaller Radford squad in the paint, while Carolina should be able to make shots at ease.

UNC will want to keep an eye on Bryan Antoine and DaQuan Smith, Radford’s top two scorers from a season ago. The duo combined to average 25.3 points per game,

UNC Basketball vs. Radford: Game preview, info, prediction and more

We’re just one day away from the start of college basketball season, as the UNC Tar Heels take on Radford at 7 p.m. inside the Dean Dome.

Just one more day, Tar Heel fans – the official start of basketball season.

UNC begins its 2023-2024 slate on Monday, Nov. 6 against the Radford Highlanders. Carolina’s enjoyed some major success in limited action vs. Radford – a 101-58 victory in its opening game of the 2009 NCAA Tournament, plus a 95-50 domination in 2016 at home.

There’s a lot of reason to be optimistic – not only about this game, but about the Tar Heels’ season as a whole. Carolina has a significantly more experienced team this season, headlined by star returners Armando Bacot and R.J. Davis. Hubert Davis hit another ace in the recruiting trail, picking up 5-star point guard Elliot Cadeau to start.

UNC missed the NCAA Tournament last after, becoming the first Preseason Number One ranked team to do so, but last season is in the past. It’s time to press reset and go up against the 3-time, Big South Champion Highlanders.

Radford is no slouch coming into tomorrow’s matchup. The Highlanders are coming off a 21-15 (12-6) campaign, in which they made a run to the College Basketball Invitational semifinals against Campbell University, plus five of their players are either seniors or graduate students.

Who will move to 1-0? What does Carolina need to do for a season-opening win?
