How should the combat sports world digest the result? We dive in with some key takeaways from the contest.

Uriah Hall calls next dibs on Jake Paul, revenge for Anderson Silva: ‘I don’t back up with boxing gloves on’

Jake Paul has a knack for boxing former MMA fighters and Uriah Hall wants to join the list to avenge the loss of Anderson Silva.

GLENDALE, Ariz. – [autotag]Jake Paul[/autotag] has a knack for boxing former MMA fighters, and [autotag]Uriah Hall[/autotag] wants to join the list.

Following their respective wins Saturday at Desert Diamond Arena, Hall (1-0) called for a bout against the star of the show Paul (6-0). He did so immediately in his in-ring interview – and then elaborated on the callout at a post-fight news conference.

“I definitely think I could take him,” Hall told MMA Junkie and other reporters. “He has an awkward style. I was watching him. His style will lure you in. It’s almost like it’s hard to hit him, the way he stands a certain way and throws these awkward punches. In all his fights, he almost does the same thing. I definitely think I could give him a challenge, because I’ll come at him. He’ll hit me, but I’ll come at him. I don’t back up with boxing gloves on. I take a couple shots, but I’ll come at you. Le’Veon (Bell) was probably one of the hardest-hitting dudes with those gloves on that I’ve ever felt. I don’t think Jake hits that hard. Yeah, bro, you don’t. Yeah, I said it.”

Paul, 25, defeated former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva via unanimous decision and even scored a knockdown. Despite no allegiance to MMA outside of admiration, Hall desires to avenge his former MMA opponent’s loss.

“You should’ve heard me in the background,” Hall said. “I was like, ‘Revenge is coming.’ It sucked. It even sucked when I had to fight him. Anderson has done so much for the sport. He inspired a lot of people, some people in this room. He’s an icon. He’s a legend. When people say that I’m a legend, I’m like, ‘That dude is a legend.’ I have so much respect for him. It hurt to watch, but I’ve got to separate those emotions. At the end of the day, it’s the skillset. Jake Paul did what he had to do to win, but I definitely felt it for Anderson.”

Hall, 38, announced his retirement from MMA in August. In what was his professional boxing debut, Hall defeated ex-NFL standout Bell by unanimous decision.

The experience, Hall indicated, was much more up his alley compared to MMA. While he was noncommittal to his specific next move, Hall made it sound like he’ll accept boxing matches that come his way – as long as they seem like a mechanism for him to have fun.

“I’m just having fun,” Hall said. “When I was on vacation, I got this call from my coach. I was like, ‘Oh, all right.’ I was still in my weird, little world of trying to figure out what to do. Plus, I was partially depressed as well. The training definitely got me out of it. I’m just having fun. This was a completely different kind of setting. The training of course wasn’t grueling on the body. MMA is hella worse, getting up and grabbing motherf*ckers. This was just pure skill and technicality, with just the hands, the movement, and stuff like that.

“If the opportunity strikes, I’ll definitely do it. I love to compete. I’m still in my prime. I still got some more miles on me. If something comes my way, I’m doing it. For the most part, I’m just having fun. If there’s a potential chance to kick that dude’s ass, f*ck yeah, I’ll do it.”

Anderson Silva humbly accepts losing to Jake Paul: ‘I’m superhero, but sometimes my half human fail’

Anderson Silva has no excuses for his loss to Jake Paul and concedes he lost to the better man.

GLENDALE, Ariz. – [autotag]Anderson Silva[/autotag] has no excuses for his loss to [autotag]Jake Paul[/autotag].

Silva, a former longtime UFC middleweight champion, dropped a unanimous decision to Paul in Saturday’s Showtime boxing headliner at Desert Diamond Arena. It was a competitive fight, but a knockdown by Paul in Round 8 locked in his victory on the scorecard, moving the YouTuber to 6-0 in his boxing career.

“The Spider” said tactical errors led to his defeat, adding that Paul was simply the superior man in the ring.

“Jake was better than me today,” Silva told MMA Junkie and other reporters at the post-fight news conference. “I tried to put on my strategy. … I don’t find my distance, and I failed in my strategy, and Jake better than me. That’s it.”

[lawrence-related id=2593022,2592919]

Silva said he “didn’t feel the knockdown” that Paul landed to change the complexion of the fight. He didn’t make any crucial mistake up to that point, but the 47-year-old will be the first to admit he’s not without flaws.

“I talked to my coach like, ‘I don’t believe it. I trained so hard not to be in the same stupid position,'” Silva said. “But I’m human. I’m superhero, but sometimes my half human fail.”

Despite his disappointment, Silva said he’s not one to cause a stink about the outcome. He was proposed the idea of a rematch, and while he didn’t shut it don’t, he made it clear he’s not one to beg.

“I know I lost,” Silva said. “I know I failed in my whole strategy, and my opponent win. I’m not the same as the other guys that fight with Jake, like, ‘Oh, I need revenge. I need rematch.’ Let’s see what happens. Maybe. I don’t know.”

Jake Paul after beating Anderson Silva: ‘Dana White can suck this d*ck’

Jake Paul went THERE with his message to Dana White after his win over Anderson Silva.

GLENDALE, Ariz. – [autotag]Jake Paul[/autotag] did something that UFC president [autotag]Dana White[/autotag] guaranteed he wouldn’t do: He called out Anderson Silva.

Not only did Paul call out the former UFC middleweight champion, he beat Silva by unanimous decision in an eight-round boxing match Saturday night at Desert Diamond Arena. It was a back-and-forth battle in which Paul was tested like never before in five previous fights, but all three judges scored it for him – which became easier when Paul dropped Silva with a right hand in the eighth round.

Now, back to that guarantee from White. This is what he had to say back in September 2021 during a Dana White’s Contender Series post-event news conference.

“I f*cking guarantee you this: You ain’t gonna see Jake Paul calling Anderson Silva out,” White said. “That I f*cking promise you.”

Moments later, White awkwardly challenged Paul to stop calling out UFC fighters under contract and instead fight Silva, who’s been free since leaving the UFC in late 2020.

It was a viral video clip that Paul didn’t forget. Because when given the chance to deliver a message to White after his win over Silva, Paul called back to it.

“Dana? … Dana? … Dana?” Paul said, mocking White. “Bro, you said I wouldn’t do this, and I did it – with flying colors. But, you know, he’s in hiding. He’s trying to do everything he can to stop my run, to sabotage my fights. He hates me. He hates what I’m doing. He hates (that) I’m exposing his business, and now we’re gonna band together and create a united fighters’ association to help UFC fighters, all MMA fighters and boxers to get more fighter pay, long-term health care. That’s a big, big undertaking that I’ve been wanting to do for the whole entire time of my career since I met (manager) Nakisa (Bidarian). I said it to him on the first day: I want to make a fighters’ union.

“So, man, Dana White can suck this d*ck.”

The feud between Paul and White has gone on for roughly two years, ever since the YouTuber entered the fight game as a professional boxer. It escalated as he knocked out Ben Askren and then defeated former UFC champion Tyron Woodley twice, including a knockout last December.

Things are certain to reach new heights if Paul follows through on his word of creating a fighters’ union with Silva as he continues to try to disrupt the business of the UFC.

Jake Paul drops, outlasts Anderson Silva in back-and-forth boxing clash

What will they say about Jake Paul now after beating former UFC champion Anderson SIlva in his toughest test to date?

What will they say about [autotag]Jake Paul[/autotag] now?

Heading into Saturday night’s Showtime headliner, the prevailing notion was that the YouTube star-turned-boxer would face his toughest challenge in former UFC middleweight champion [autotag]Anderson Silva[/autotag]. The fight was more action-packed than anyone could’ve expected, with Silva pushing Paul as much as he could. In the end, Paul outlasted Silva and won a unanimous decision at Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Ariz., with the judges scoring the fight 77-74, 78-73, 78-73 in his favor.

“They’re going to find something to say, ‘Fight a real boxer,”‘ Paul said afterward. “B*tch, I tried. Hey, if I were walking on water, people would say that I can’t swim. There’s always going to be haters. There’s always going to be critics. It’s there. It’s everyday, part of life if you’re doing something and being successful. So I don’t worry about that sh*t. This is just the start, baby.”

Based on the first round alone, the fight should’ve been slow and calculated as Silva came out relaxed and didn’t throw a lot while Paul pushed the action. That all changed in Round 2, though, when Silva ramped things up to another level and took Paul out of his comfort zone. The mental warfare was on, with Silva landing and taunting Paul on more than one occasion.

As the fight wore on, the brutality increased. At times, Paul and Silva fought in a phone booth, something Paul hadn’t done in his previous fights with former MMA champions Ben Askren and Tyron Woodley.

[lawrence-related id=2592887,2592591]

Silva’s best punch of the night was his inside uppercut, while Paul found success with three-punch combos upstairs and downstairs and continuously looked to a land a big overhand right – which he did a few times, but Silva was able to take them.

That is, until the eighth and final round. Silva came out with a sense of urgency, blitzing and throwing in bunches. But 30 seconds in, Paul finally found his big punch and dropped Silva to the canvas. Even after the knockdown, Silva still plodded forward. As much as he pushed, Silva couldn’t find his one punch in the final frame.

It wasn’t a bad showing for the 47-year-old Silva. But the 25-year-old Paul was just better.

“Listen, it’s tough to come inside here and fight with a young kid,” Silva said. “I tried to do my best. I’m training hard every day. Jake is better than me today. I don’t have anything bad to say about my opponent. I think everybody needs to respect this kid, because he’s doing the best job.”

And now Paul can look toward a showdown with former UFC star Nate Diaz, which has been talked about for months and is cleared to happen now that Diaz is a free agent.

“I want Nate Diaz, who’s a b*tch,” Paul said. “He tried to come into my locker room. He tried to cause some sh*t. Then he always leaves the f*cking arena. So Nate Diaz, stop being a b*tch and fight me.”

Video: Nate Diaz throws slap, escorted away after backstage scuffle at Jake Paul vs. Anderson Silva

Flying beverages, backstage scuffles, a stockton slap – and seemingly an ejection. Nate Diaz had quite the time at Jake Paul vs. Anderson Silva, it appears.

[autotag]Nate Diaz[/autotag] broke out the “Stockton Slap” backstage at the Jake Paul vs. Anderson Silva boxing event Saturday in Glendale, Ariz.

While full details of the altercation are not yet known, multiple videos show a scuffle between members of Diaz’s crew and individuals sporting Jake Paul walkout gear. One angle shows an angry Diaz swipe at a man with a shaved head and tattoos while arena and promotion staff members intervened.

A second video shows a drink thrown from Diaz’s direction. The flying beverage sparked a lot of shoving and scuffle away from a number of large, suited individuals, who charged toward Diaz and behind a curtain out of the focus of the camera.

Shortly thereafter, Diaz went live on Instagram. He filmed multiple security members, who ordered members of the Diaz team to leave the arena immediately. The video was posted just prior to the start of the main event.

Diaz, 37, was in attendance to support his teammate and friend Chris Avila, who defeated YouTuber Dr. Mike in the opening main card bout. A free agent, some think Diaz could land in Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions as a boxer – an option Diaz previously acknowledged.
