3 standout stars for Patriots in Week 6 loss to Raiders

The Patriots put up a fight but still managed to fall short on Sunday. Here are the three standout stars in the Patriots-Raiders game.

The New England Patriots performed much better in Week 6 than they did in their previous two blowout losses to the New Orleans Saints and Dallas Cowboys.

But even with an improved performance, the Patriots ultimately fell in defeat to the Las Vegas Raiders 21-17, thanks to some last-minute self-inflicted wounds.

The Patriots had a chance to come back late in the fourth quarter and fell short as Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby sacked Mac Jones in the end zone for a safety to ultimately close the game out.

Even in defeat, it was clear New England showed up to compete until the final whistle. These were the three standout stars for the team in their third consecutive loss.

The Morning After…Patriots offense looks improved, but it’s far too late

The Patriots showed an offensive pulse against the Raiders, but it could be too late.

The New England Patriots fell to 1-5 after a 21-17 loss at the hands of Josh McDaniels and the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday.

Coming off two disgusting losses to the Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints by a tally of 72-3, the Patriots offense finally got into the end zone against the Raiders—not once but twice.

The two touchdowns came on the legs of both running backs Rhamondre Stevenson and Ezekiel Elliott.

The Patriots offense looked better, but it had some self-inflicted wounds, like an interception thrown by Mac Jones earlier in the game and the 10 team penalties throughout. They also gave up a sack for a safety to close out the game.

Although the game felt better than the last two weeks offensively, the team might be finding offensive success too late, as they are now 1-5 on the season. Only three teams have come back from a 1-5 start, and this team doesn’t have the talent to overcome that.

Let’s get into some leftover notes from Sunday’s game.

3 keys to victory for Patriots in Week 6 vs Raiders

Here are 3 keys to victory for the Patriots on Sunday against Josh McDaniels and the Raiders

The New England Patriots take on old friend Josh McDaniels and the Las Vegas Raiders in an important game on both sides on Sunday.

The Patriots are fresh off two embarrassing losses, and with turmoil setting in Foxborough, people forget how frustrated Raiders fans might be with their team as well.

This game features two of the worst offenses in the entire league, but along with the offensive struggles, the Patriots also have a depleted defense and poor special teams unit. This game might not be pretty, and it will be a rock fight. But it is probably the most important game for Mac Jones and Bill Belichick with the Patriots, and McDaniels with the Raiders.

One could argue the team that loses this game will likely be fighting an uphill battle for their job at the end of the year. Let’s get into this week’s keys for the Patriots to end their two-game losing streak and get back into the win column.

Do Your Job: Who is x-factor Raiders player Patriots must stop?

Who is the one player on the Raiders the Patriots must stop to get a win on Sunday?

The Patriots offensive line has struggled mightily, and they will have their hands full this week against one of the best defensive lineman in the entire NFL.

This week’s x-factor is none other than star defensive end, Maxx Crosby.

Since entering the NFL in 2019, Crosby has amassed 259 tackles, 73 tackles for loss and 42.5 sacks.

Crosby is more than a pin-the-ears back pass-rusher as he possesses a deep bag of tricks to live in the opponent’s backfield all game. If Crosby isn’t in the backfield, he’s clogging up lanes and setting a hard edge in the run game, opening up opportunities for his fellow defensive lineman to clean up the easy tackles.

Crosby is ranked as the eighth best pass-rusher by Pro Football Focus, and he has a 20 percent pass rush win rate against his offensive line counterparts this year, which is a scary thought considering the Patriots have one of the worst offensive lines in the entire NFL.

If the Patriots wish to get anything going offensively, it all starts with finding where Crosby is and running the opposite direction as fast as they can. Crosby is a modern day Boogeyman, and he should create nightmares for Mac Jones, much like Micah Parsons and Cam Jordan did in previous weeks.

Whoever lines up at right tackle for the Patriots will need to have a career game just to not be embarrassed by one of the more dominant defensive ends in all of football. The Patriots will likely need to utilize tight ends and running backs to assist Vederian Lowe (likely starter) by chipping or even flat out double-teaming Crosby on passing downs.

If they fail to take care of business up front, it’s going to be another painfully frustrating day for Jones and the Patriots offense.
