Patriots bringing a familiar face back to front office

The Patriots’ front office is getting a boost with this returning executive.

Pat Stewart is coming back to the New England Patriots front office, per Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston.

This is Stewart’s second stint in New England. He began his career as a scouting assistant in 2007, and also served the roles of area scout and pro scout. He was with New England until 2018, when he joined the Philadelphia Eagles.

Most recently, he took a job in Carolina as a director of player personnel in 2020. He rose through the ranks quickly in Charlotte, taking on the role of VP of player personnel in 2021.

This is just another move in a long line of changes we have seen so far this offseason from the organization.

Perhaps the biggest change to this point was adding Bill O’Brien as offensive coordinator. New England continues to surround themselves with familiar faces, as Patriots personnel gear up for the 2023 season.

Panthers parts ways with VP of player personnel Pat Stewart

As reported by Joe Person of The Athletic on Tuesday night, the Panthers have cut ties with VP of player personnel Pat Stewart—who came in under Matt Rhule.

With a new head coach now onboard, the Carolina Panthers are continuing to leave behind some remnants of the old one. And on Tuesday night, they left behind Pat Stewart.

As reported by Joe Person of The Athletic, the Panthers parted ways with Stewart—their vice president of player personnel.

Stewart was hired in May of 2020, shortly after the arrival of former head coach Matt Rhule, as the director of player personnel. Prior to joining the Panthers, he worked as a national scout for the Philadelphia Eagles from 2018 to 2019 and in various roles for the New England Patriots scouting department from 2007 to 2017.

He crossed paths with Rhule twice at the college level, first at Western Carolina University in 2005 and then at Temple University in 2006—when Rhule served as an associate head coach and defensive line coach, respectively.

In the summer of 2021, Stewart—who was also an internal candidate for Carolina’s general manager opening—would then be promoted to the vice president of player personnel position.

Report: Panthers plan to interview 2 internal candidates this weekend for GM job

According to a report by Joe Person at the Athletic, the team will interview two internal candidates this weekend: Samir Suleiman and Pat Stewart.

The Panthers have conducted interviews with about a dozen outside candidates for their general manager opening this week. For the next step, they’ll turn the search inward.

According to a report by Joe Person at the Athletic, the team will interview two internal candidates this weekend: Director of Player Negotiations & Salary Cap Manager Samir Suleiman and Director of Player Personnel Pat Stewart.

A product of the Eagles’ front office, Stewart already has some influence in shaping the Panthers roster, with the team bringing in several former Philadelphia players to fill backup or practice squad roles this past season.

Suleiman came to the Carolina organization last year via Pittsburgh, where he served as their Football Administration Coordinator. He also has experience with the Jaguars and Rams.

Report: Panthers hire new director of player personnel

The Carolina Panthers are making a significant addition to their front office.

The Carolina Panthers are making a significant addition to their front office.

According to a report by Ian Rapoport at NFL Network, the team is hiring Pat Stewart (not that one) as their new director of player personnel. Stewart had been working as the Philadelphia Eagles’ national scout.

Before Stewart joined the Eagles in 2018, he spent 10 years with the New England Patriots’ organization in a variety of roles.

In case you’re wondering, there is a tangential connection with Matt Rhule. Stewart was working for Western Carolina in 2005 when Rhule was their associate head coach. He also put in a year at Temple in 2006 when Rhule was the defensive line coach.

Joe Person at the Athletic confirmed Rapoport’s reporting and included some more details. Apparently, Stewart will run the pro scouting side and Jeff Morrow will continue to oversee the college side.

There’s still no word yet on general manager Marty Hurney’s contract or if it will be renewed.
