Aaron Rodgers falls to third all-time in career passer rating

Packers QB Aaron Rodgers is no longer the NFL’s all-time career passer rating record holder.

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is no longer the NFL’s all-time leader in passer rating.

In fact, he dropped from first to third in the span of four days.

The new record holder is Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who – with 33 attempts in the first half of Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers – now has the 1,500 career passing attempts needed to qualify for all-time records.

Coming into Sunday, Mahomes had a career passer rating of 110.3, far and away the best mark in league history.

Rodgers was also recently passed by Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson, who now has a career passer rating of 103.5 after posting a 150.5 passer rating during the Texans’ win over the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving Day.

Rodgers has a career passer rating of 103.1.

Mahomes also claimed Rodgers’ record for the best touchdown-to-interception ratio of all-time.

Rodgers still has the highest single-season passer rating of all-time at 122.5, set during the 2011 season.

Mahomes and Watson were the second and third quarterbacks taken in the 2017 NFL draft, respectively, behind only Mitchell Trubisky, who the Chicago Bears traded up to select at No. 2 overall.

Seahawks QB Russell Wilson named NFC’s Offensive Player of Week 1

Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson is off to a red-hot start in 2020.

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson is off to a red-hot start in 2020. For his performance in the team’s victory over the Atlanta Falcons Week 1, Wilson has been named the NFC’s Offensive Player of Week.

Against the Falcons, Wilson completed 31 of 35 passes attempted for 332 yards and four touchdowns. He finished with a completion percentage of 88.6  and a passer rating of 143.1.

“Russ has been extraordinary all camp,” coach Pete Carroll said after the win. “He had a great summer throwing the ball to everybody and he had perhaps his best throwing day, numbers-wise, just about as you could have. He was in great command of the game.”

This marks the 10th time in his career Wilson has earned the NFC Player of the Week nomination. He was named twice last season, in Week 2 and Week 9.

On Sunday, Wilson became one of only two quarterbacks in league history to pass for more than 30,000 yards and rush for more than 4,000 . . . Hall of Fame quarterback Steve Young is the other.

Russell Wilson continues to excel when facing pressure

Despite facing pressure at the third highest rate in the NFL, Russell Wilson has the league’s second best passer rating against pressure.

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson has always handled being under pressure well, and the 2019 season is no different.

So far this season, Wilson has a passer rating of 108.7 when under pressure, which ranks second in the NFL behind Derek Carr of the Oakland Raiders (109.2).

The key difference, however, is that Wilson has still seen the third highest rate of pressure (41.8 percent of dropbacks) this season – despite clear evidence that he succeeds when faced with it.

Of course, Wilson’s passer rating without pressure is still much better, so teams may just be taking the lesser of two evils by applying pressure. Wilson does end up getting sacked quite a bit, as a veteran offensive line has battled injuries and ineffectiveness for much of the season, which has forced Wilson to use his legs more than in years past.

The Seahawks are 8-2 thanks almost exclusively to Wilson’s heroics throughout the season, and the MVP candidate will take a much deserved break this weekend before heading to Philadelphia to take on the Eagles in Week 12.
