One of the Green Bay Packers’ unsigned free agents has found a new home in the NFC North.

Cornerback Parry Nickerson, who played in just one game for the Packers last season, signed with the Minnesota Vikings. The team announced the addition on Monday.

Nickerson, 26, was a sixth-round pick of the New York Jets in 2018.

The Packers originally signed Nickerson on Sept. 7 of last year. He played in one game – appearing on two special teams snaps – against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 5. He was placed on injured reserve on Oct. 20 and never returned, although he was designated for return and eventually practiced with the team in January.

Nickerson was a restricted free agent but wasn’t offered a tender, making him an unrestricted free agent.

Nickerson has terrific speed (4.32), but he’s only played 250 total defensive snaps in his NFL career.

Among the Packers’ remaining unsigned free agents are Snacks Harrison and Tyler Ervin.

Vikings sign CB Parry Nickerson and T Evin Ksiezarczyk

The Minnesota Vikings announced on Monday the signings of CB Parry Nickerson and T Evin Ksiezarczyk.

Minnesota has shored up starting positions at cornerback and tackle this offseason. That said, the Vikings could use some more players near the bottom of the depth chart for those positions.

Enter more depth. Minnesota announced on Monday that the team has signed CB Parry Nickerson and T Evin Ksiezarczyk. Ksiezarczyk, a tackle who participated in the Vikings’ minicamp, has a chance to be a reserve tackle. However, he should presumably have competition for reps with Rashod Hill and other reserves.

Nickerson, a former sixth-round pick by the Jets, could also fill out a reserve role with the team. He played in 16 games with New York in 2018, starting two. He finished that season with one pass defended and 21 combined tackles.

Cornerbacks Cameron Dantzler, Patrick Peterson and Mackensie Alexander should be taking a lot of reps in 2021, but Minnesota struggled with corner depth this past season, so it helps to have talent below those three on the depth chart.

Packers sign CB Parry Nickerson to 53-man roster

The Packers signed Parry Nickerson, a former sixth-round pick of the Jets, to the team’s 53-man roster.

The Green Bay Packers added a cornerback to the 53-man roster on Monday.

GM Brian Gutekunst announced the signing of cornerback Parry Nickerson, a sixth-round pick of the New York Jets in 2018 who has also spent time with the Seattle Seahawks and Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Packers placed rookie linebacker Kamal Martin and cornerback Kabion Ento on injured reserve, opening up a roster spot for Nickerson.

The Jaguars released Nickerson, who was on the reserve/COVID-19 list earlier in training camp, during final cutdowns.

Nickerson (5-10, 182) has played in 20 career NFL games. He has 27 career tackles, one pass breakup and one tackle for loss over 250 snaps on defense.

Nickerson played in all 16 games as a rookie with the Jets before being traded to the Seahawks at the end of training camp in 2019. He later signed with the Jaguars, playing four games with the team last season.

Nickerson ran the 40-yard dash in 4.32 seconds at the NFL Scouting Combine, tying two others for the fastest time at the combine. He also posted a 33.5″ vertical leap and 10-0 broad jump and finished the three-cone drill in 7.31 seconds.

Although Nickerson is verifiably fast, his athletic profile suggests a shorter cornerback who doesn’t jump or change direction well.

The Jets made Nickerson the 179th overall pick in the 2018 draft.

In Green Bay, Nickerson will be the sixth cornerback behind Jaire Alexander, Kevin King, Chandon Sullivan, Josh Jackson and Ka’dar Hollman.

Watch: Keelan Cole adds to impressive camp showing with a nice toe drag reception

Keelan Cole added another crazy catch to his name in Monday’s practice courtesy of a dime by Mike Glennon.

When looking at how training camp has gone for the Jacksonville Jaguars, the receivers have had the most standout moments. Veteran Keelan Cole, whose established himself as a circus catch king, added to that during Monday’s practice.

In 1-on-1 drills, Cole made another highlight catch which was caught on video by the Jags social media account. With Parry Nickerson in coverage, Cole ran a fade to the back corner of the end-zone, and with the help of a perfect pass from Mike Glennon, he was able to reel it in for this toe drag reception seen below.

Talk about concentration.

As mentioned above, these type of catches have become routine for Cole as we’ve seen him snag one-handed grabs in clutch game time situations. Of course, his most notable one came in 2018 when he hauled in a one-hander on the New England Patriots in front of their head coach Bill Belichick.

Cole’s highlight catch from Monday just further adds to the under-the-radar camp he’s having. There were some who felt the depth was so good at receiver that he’d be the odd man out for the Jags, but he’s simply been so good that it probably won’t be a thought for the staff.

CB Parry Nickerson activated from Jags’ Reserve/COVID-19 list

The Jags Reserve/COVID-19 list got a little smaller Wednesday with CB Parry Nickerson being removed from it.

Cornerback Parry Nickerson will be coming off the Jacksonville Jaguars’ Reserve/COVID-19 list the team announced Wednesday morning. This comes after Nickerson was placed on the list on Thursday, July 30.

Nickerson, 25, joined the Jags last October through their main roster and eventually was cut and added to their practice squad. Prior to joining the Jags, he was a sixth-round pick (No. 179 overall) for the New York Jets coming out of Tulane in 2018 and also spent some time with the Seattle Seahawks afterward (via trade).

Nickerson will enter his 2020 tenure with the Jags with 27 career tackles and one pass deflection. In his young career, he’s also taken part in 20 games while starting in three.

Nickerson will join a young cornerback group that includes rookie C.J. Henderson, third-year player Tre Herndon, and veteran Rashaan Melvin at the top of the depth chart. The group will be one that could see fierce competition from undrafted rookies Luq Barcoo, Amari Henderson, and Kobe Williams.

With Nickerson now activated, the Jags are at 84 players, including tight end James O’Shaughnessy who is the team’s lone player on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list. Meanwhile, Ryquell Armstead, tight end Charles Jones, receiver Michael Walker, offensive tackle Ryan Pope, and guard Tre’Vour Wallace-Simms remain on the Jags’ Reserve/COVID-19 list.

Cannon to Carolina: Panthers claim ex-Jets RB

The Carolina Panthers claimed former Jets running back Trenton Cannon off waivers.

The Carolina Panthers claimed Trenton Cannon off waivers from the Jets Tuesday just a day after he was cut by New York.

Cannon was a sixth-round draft choice out of Virginia State by the Jets in 2018. In his rookie season, Cannon played in all 16 games as a backup running back and special teams player. He rushed for 113 yards and one touchdown and had 20 total yards on kick returns. Cannon also had 144 receiving yards as well. As a gunner, Cannon recorded nine tackles.

In 2019, Cannon was limited to four games due to foot and ankle injuries. He had 96 kick return yards to go along with three tackles and a fumble recovery as a gunner.

Cannon is now the second player from the Jets’ 2018 draft that is no longer with the organization. The other is CB Parry Nickerson.

Jags place CB Parry Nickerson, TE Charles Jones on Reserve/ COVID-19 list

The Jags now have seven players on their Reserve/ COVID-19 list after adding veteran CB Parry Nickerson and TE Charles Jones.

On Thursday afternoon, the Jacksonville Jaguars announced that two more players from the roster would be heading to their Reserve/ COVID-19 list. Those two players were veterans Parry Nickerson and Charles Jones.

As previously mentioned this week, the Reserve/ COVID-19 list was made this offseason with the coronavirus pandemic being an issue within the nation. The list is one made for players who’ve contracted the coronavirus or are quarantining due to being in close contact with someone (or multiple people) who’ve contracted it.

Nickerson joined the Jags last October through their main roster and eventually was cut and added to their practice squad. Before that, he was a sixth-round selection of the New York Jets in 2018 and also spent a little time with the Seattle Seahawks afterward (via trade).

As a rookie with the Jets, Nickerson accumulated 21 tackles and a pass breakup. He also participated in four games with the Jags last season and garnered six sacks.

Jones, on the other hand, was cut by the Jags last preseason on August 31 and picked up for their practice squad the next day. He was eventually promoted to the active roster in November and finished the season with one catch for five yards.

The addition of Nickerson and Jones puts the Jags at seven players on the Reserve/ COVID-19 list. They will join rookies DaVon Hamilton, Luq Barcoo, and Tre’Vour Wallace-Simms, along with second-year offensive linemen Jawaan Taylor and Ryan Pope, all of whom were placed on the list earlier this week.
