Panthers Highlights: Every catch from D.J. Moore’s huge game in Green Bay

The one exception to the rule was wide receiver D.J. Moore, who had one of his most productive games of the 2020 season.

The Panthers’ offense was extraordinarily frustrating to watch at times in last night’s loss to the Packers. Teddy Bridgewater had serious ball security problems, Curtis Samuel had a rare off-game and the playcalling from Joe Brady was particularly confusing.

One big exception to the rule was wide receiver D.J. Moore, who had one of his most productive games of the 2020 season. Moore caught six of eight targets, totaling 131 receiving yards. Here’s every catch he made.

Moore is now up to 56 catches, four touchdowns and 1,055 yards on the year. While those are strong numbers, they’re also deceiving. The chemistry between Moore and Bridgewater has far too frequently been off this season. Technically that’s a two-way street, but it seems Teddy is more responsible for the miscues in this case.

If Moore had a stronger rapport with a more aggressive QB, he could’ve eclipsed at least six scores and 1,400 yards by now.

Panthers Highlights: The best of Brian Burns so far in 2020

Here is the best of what Burns has done so far in the 2020 season.

The Panthers got extraordinarily lucky when Brian Burns fell into their laps at No. 16 overall in last year’s draft. The former Florida State defensive end showed great potential as a rookie but did not get consistent playing time under Ron Rivera. This year it’s been a different story under Matt Rhule. Burns has seen his defensive snap count increase from 43% to 75% and it’s made an enormous difference on the field.

Here is the best of what Burns has done so far in the 2020 season.

Heading into Week 12, Burns has six sacks, 16 quarterback hits, five tackles for a loss, three forced fumbles and three passes defensed. According to ESPN, Burns ranks No. 5 at his position in pass rush win rate.

The freakiest thing about Burns’ progress is the fact that he’s just 22 years old and hasn’t even peaked yet. At this rate, he’s going to become the best EDGE defender in the NFL by the time he’s 25, if not much sooner.

Watch Bridgewater connect with wide receiver D.J. Moore for a 38-yard gain against the Chargers.

Panthers quarterback Teddy Bridgewater isn’t known as a deep ball thrower. He uncorked a beauty on this pass, though.

The Panthers committed another turnover early in the third quarter when Robby Anderson fumbled during a tackle. On the very next play, cornerback Donte Jackson got the ball back by picking off a throw by Tom Brady.

Watch.

That’s the eighth interception of Jackson’s NFL career. Carolina still trails 21-0, though.

Panthers Highlights: D.J. Moore makes 1-handed catch at practice

Watch wide receiver D.J. Moore make a one-handed catch at practice on a play-action pass from quarterback Teddy Bridgewater.

This has been perhaps the oddest offseason in the history of the NFL. In a little over an hour, it will come to an end as the regular season finally begins. In the meantime, here’s one last offseason highlight from the Carolina Panthers’ social team.

Watch wide receiver D.J. Moore make a one-handed catch at practice on a play-action pass from quarterback Teddy Bridgewater.

If Moore picks up where he left off before his injury late in 2019, it will be a huge boost for Joe Brady’s offense.

Moore won’t have to do it alone, though. Speaking with reporters today, Brady said we should expect to see a lot of receivers involved given the tempo they’ll be playing with.

Truth be told, this is one of the weaker rosters on paper in the NFL going into the 2020 season. However, their speed and depth at wide receiver is perhaps their greatest asset.

Panthers Highlights: Rookie Jeremy Chinn stuffs Reggie Bonnafon

Panthers Highlights: Rookie Jeremy Chinn stuffs Reggie Bonnafon.

The Carolina Panthers had the worst run defense in the NFL last season and whoever had the second-worst wasn’t close. The hope is that Derrick Brown and a few other new pieces will help turn that around this year under incoming defensive coordinator Phil Snow.

Watch second-round pick Jeremy Chinn stuff backup running back Reggie Bonnafon at practice on Monday.

Chinn is expected to start at “strong safety” in place of Eric Reid. However, fans should expect to see him lining up at multiple spots.

As for Bonnafon, he’s competing with Mike Davis for the right to backup Christian McCaffrey.

Panthers Highlights: 2 cornerbacks make plays at training camp

Panthers Highlights: 2 cornerbacks make plays at training camp.

Cornerback remains arguably the most problematic position on the Panthers roster going into 2020. With only a couple of weeks left before the season begins at home against the Raiders, the team needs their young corners to step up and shorten their learning curve.

On Friday, the team shared two highlights on Twitter of cornerbacks breaking up passes at practice.

Stantley Thomas-Oliver III

First, Carolina’s seventh-round pick, FIU’s Thomas-Oliver broke up this ball from P.J. Walker that was intended for Ishmael Hyman.

Donte Jackson

Later, the team shared this PBU by Jackson on a pass by Will Grier meant for Brandon Zylstra.

Depending on how things go, there’s a chance these two could be the starting outside cornerbacks at some point this season.

It’s rare for seventh-round picks to start, but Thomas-Oliver may have a legitimate opportunity if either Eli Apple or fourth-round pick Troy Pride Jr. struggle or get injured.

Panthers Highlights: Every sack and tackle for a loss by Brian Burns in 2019

Panthers Highlights: Watch all of defensive end Brian Burns’ sacks and tackles for a loss in 2019.

Brian Burns appears to be gem of the 2019 Panthers draft class. As a rookie, Burns posted 7.5 sacks and five tackles for a loss despite only having played 43% of the teams’ defensive snaps.

Here’s a look at every one of them, courtesy of Raiders Wire editor Marcus Mosher.

Those numbers should rise in 2020 as Burns gets more playing time. His solid pass rush win rate also indicates he has a high ceiling.
