NASCAR at Daytona: Starting lineup for 2024 Daytona 500 and paint schemes for all 40 cars

Get a look at every paint scheme in starting order for the 2024 Daytona 500.

The 2024 NASCAR Cup Series season officially kicks off Sunday with the Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway (2:30 p.m. ET, Fox), and for the first time in his career, Joey Logano will start on the pole after posting a 181.947-mile-per-hour lap at the 2.5-mile track.

The 2018 and 2022 Cup Series champ and driver of the No. 22 Ford — whose Daytona 500 pole is also a first for Team Penske — will start alongside 2021 Daytona 500 winner Michael McDowell in the No. 34 Front Row Motorsports Ford on the front row.

It’s a bit of a surprise to have two Fords on the front row considering Chevrolets have won the previous 11 Daytona 500 poles with Hendrick Motorsports drivers winning eight of the last nine. But so much can change in a chaotic race like this, and often, the pole winner doesn’t finish first.

So ahead of the 2023 Daytona 500, here’s a look at the starting lineup, including all 40 paint schemes for the first race of the season.

Bubba Wallace and Mark Hamill unveil Star Wars-themed paint scheme for NASCAR season finale

Gotta love a Star Wars-themed NASCAR paint scheme.

Bubba Wallace’s paint scheme for the last race of the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series season is straight out of a galaxy far, far away.

With the help of Star Wars actor Mark Hamill, Wallace unveiled the No. 23 23XI Racing Toyota’s final paint scheme of the season for Sunday’s championship event at Phoenix Raceway — though Wallace and the No. 23 team were previously eliminated from contention. And it’s an awesome silver and black Star Wars-themed ride with strong Millennium Falcon vibes.

Highlighting sponsor Columbia’s new Star Wars collection, Wallace shows up to Hamill’s door in the reveal video, dressed in a fire suit resembling the design of X-wing pilot suits from the franchise, including a look Hamill wore as Luke Skywalker. Hamill compliments Wallace’s outfit before tossing him the “keys” to the No. 23 Toyota.

“Remember, Bubba, the force will be with you — always,” Hamill says at the end.

A great paint scheme reveal, especially for Star Wars fans, who might be a bit jealous of this car’s look, including self-described aspiring Jedi Ryan Blaney.

Update: Wallace’s 23XI Racing teammate, Tyler Reddick, has a Star Wars-inspired ride too.

See Alex Bowman’s beautiful new ‘day and night’ dual primary paint schemes for 2023 NASCAR season

These looks are definitely going to stand out on the track.

Alex Bowman’s No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet is getting a new primary paint scheme for the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series season. Actually, he’s getting two.

And they’re both stunning.

The No. 48 car will continue featuring the vibrant purple and pink colors fans have been accustomed to since primary sponsor Ally Financial teamed up with Hendrick Motorsports in 2019, back when Jimmie Johnson was the car’s driver.

But this time, there’s a fun duality to the looks with “day and night” paint schemes, which, per Ally, were designed by Caroline Fogle, the director of creative design at NASCAR.

The day paint scheme features a dark purple hood that fades into pink, purple and turquoise streaks across the body into a mostly white rear, bumper aside. The night scheme follows a similar pattern, but black is the dominant color with streaks of color breaking it up, starting on the hood and continuing back into a mostly black rear.

(Ally)

The day scheme will be the first one fans see on the track, debuting at The Clash at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum — the preseason exhibition event two weeks before the season-opening Daytona 500. The night scheme will make its first appearance in April for the Bristol Motor Speedway dirt race.

Here are some more angles of Bowman’s dual primary paint scheme for 2023…

Kurt Busch will race one of the coolest cars with an Air Jordan-inspired paint scheme at Kansas

Kurt Busch’s Kansas car is inspired by maybe the greatest Jordan sneaker of all time.

If there’s one car you’re sure to notice during this weekend’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Kansas Speedway, it’s this one — the one with a paint scheme inspired by an iconic sneaker. An iconic Jordan sneaker.

Kurt Busch’s No. 45 23XI Racing Toyota is sure to turn some heads in Sunday’s AdventHealth 400 (3 p.m. ET, FS1), first because the paint scheme is a spectacular look but also because the design is inspired by the Air Jordan 3 Black Cement sneaker. Along with the Black Cement design elements, the car will feature the Jumpman logo on the hood.

Busch’s team, 23XI Racing, is, of course, co-owned by Michael Jordan, and the 2004 Cup champ became the latest Jordan Brand athlete in NASCAR when he joined the second-year team for the 2022 season.

And when Jordan became a team owner in NASCAR ahead of the 2021 season, we figured cool paint schemes were sure to follow. But this one is next-level awesome. 23XI has been teasing this paint scheme, and Thursday, it was finally shared.

So what’s so special and cool about the Air Jordan 3?

When the Jordan 3 was first released in 1988, it set the highest standard possible for what a basketball sneaker should be.

It performed better than anything else on the court at that time while also becoming a fashion staple off of it. Now, the sneaker is an absolute icon — maybe the greatest Jordan sneaker of all time.

So it’s certainly fitting to see the classic Black Cement colorway being honored on the race track. If you’re going to emulate a Jordan sneaker, this is definitely the one you do.

See NASCAR’s throwback paint schemes for the 2022 Goodyear 400 at Darlington

NASCAR is going old school for the 2022 spring Darlington race.

It’s throwback weekend in NASCAR as the Cup Series takes on Darlington Raceway for Sunday’s Goodyear 400. And while a race at this historic track is a big deal on its own, the throwback theme of it means teams and drivers are busting out old-school paint schemes for their rides.

Last year, the spring Darlington race featured some awesome paint schemes, and the year before was pretty solid too. But this year’s looks might be even better.

But as we and NASCAR Twitter have noted, there’s a clear frontrunner for the best 2022 throwback paint scheme, and it’s actually two cars: Ross Chastain’s No. 1 Chevrolet and Daniel Suárez’s No. 99 Chevrolet. The two Trackhouse Racing drivers’ cars share a theme, honoring Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Dale Earnhardt Jr. from a 1998 race.

Although the Trackhouse cars have two of the best throwback paint schemes ever, there are plenty of other cool looks this year too. So here’s a look at what’s been revealed so far, and as teams and drivers continue unveiling them, we’ll have updates.

The 2022 Goodyear 400 at Darlington Raceway is Sunday at 3:30 p.m. ET on FS1.

7 awesome Halloween-themed NASCAR paint schemes at Martinsville

Who’s driving the creepiest car in NASCAR during Halloween weekend?

It’s Halloween weekend, and as usual, there are several NASCAR teams and sponsors who have gotten in on the fun with their paint schemes for the races at Martinsville Speedway.

For the penultimate NASCAR weekend, all three national series — the Cup Series, Xfinity Series and Truck Series — are competing at Martinsville, the .526-mile Virginia short track that very closely resembles a paperclip. And all three races have at least one spooky, Halloween-themed car competing in them.

There are some good ones this year, so here’s a look at some of NASCAR’s Halloween (or just generally creepy) paint schemes this weekend.

Denny Hamlin is the latest NASCAR driver to have his face on the hood of his race car

Glamour-shot vibes for Denny Hamlin this weekend.

The 2021 NASCAR season has produced some really fun paint schemes — from the super flashy one Dale Earnhardt Jr. designed for Alex Bowman to Bubba Wallace’s Martinsville Speedway night race look to all the throwback paint schemes at Darlington Raceway.

But still, as always, nothing beats a driver racing around the track with their own face plastered on the hood of a car, and earlier this season, Corey LaJoie had his face on the hood of his car at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

It’s an amazing and unbeatable look, and Denny Hamlin is the latest NASCAR driver to have his face incorporated into his paint scheme.

This is the design for his No. 11 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota for Sunday’s Quaker State 400 at Atlanta Motor Speedway:

Hamlin looks pensive in this paint scheme with incredible glamour-shot vibes while also feeling kind of like a meme. It’s just so good, and we can only hope this becomes a more popular trend among NASCAR teams.

Despite a strong season that has the No. 11 driver at the top of the regular-season standings, Hamlin is still racing for this first win of 2021. Maybe he’ll get an extra boost this weekend at Atlanta with his own face leading the way.

The Quaker State 400 at Atlanta is Sunday at 3:30 p.m. ET (NBCSN).

See NASCAR’s throwback paint schemes for the 2021 Goodyear 400 at Darlington

NASCAR’s throwback weekend isn’t here yet, but some awesome paint schemes are.

NASCAR fans usually have to wait until the back half of the 36-race schedule to enjoy all the throwback paint schemes that hit the track at Darlington Raceway. But this year, the annual throwback weekend is early for the first of two Darlington races this season — rather than for the “crown jewel” Southern 500 fall event.

The Goodyear 400 on Sunday, May 9 is the Cup Series’ throwback race at the South Carolina track.

And even though it’s still more than a week away, drivers and their teams are beginning to unveil their old-school paint schemes honoring iconic, famous or personally special looks from racing’s history.

In addition to the throwback schemes competing, Dale Earnhardt Jr. will return to the track for the second-tier Xfinity Series race pace laps, driving his vintage and newly restored No. 8 Chevrolet Nova, which his late father, Dale Earnhardt Sr., raced in the mid-1980s in what was then known as the Busch Grand National Series.

(Dale Sr.’s grandson, Jeffrey Earnhardt, is also honoring his grandfather with his Xfinity paint scheme this year.)

There are so many throwback paint schemes to keep track of, and as we get closer to race day, more and more will be unveiled. So we’re keeping track of the Cup Series’ 2021 throwback looks for the spring Darlington race, and we’ll continue to update this list.

See Bubba Wallace’s sharp, new paint scheme for the Martinsville night race

Bubba Wallace’s No. 23 Toyota has a new look for NASCAR’s next race.

For four of the first seven races of the NASCAR Cup Series season, Bubba Wallace has had sponsor Door Dash on his No. 23 23XI Racing Toyota. He’s mostly raced with a dominantly red paint scheme with white embellishments, including on the rear quarter panels.

But for Saturday night’s race at Martinsville Speedway, Wallace’s Door Dash car is getting a makeover.

After the first off weekend of the season, NASCAR returns to the track for the Blue-Emu Maximum Pain Relief 500. But fans might not immediately recognize Wallace’s No. 23 car on the .526-mile Virginia short track because his color scheme will be reversed, he and 23XI Racing announced Friday on Twitter.

And it looks pretty sharp.

With a new team — which is co-owned by Michael Jordan and fellow NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin and in its debut season — Wallace’s best finish of the 2021 season so far is 16th, coming at both Phoenix Raceway and Atlanta Motor Speedway.

At Martinsville, Wallace had a career-best 11th-place finish last season when he ran a #BlackLivesMatter paint scheme on his No. 43 Richard Petty Motorsports Chevrolet. For Saturday’s night race, he’ll start 25th.

Since we’re talking about Wallace’s paint schemes, here’s a look at his car and schemes from every race so far this season.
