San Diego Padres at Colorado Rockies odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Monday’s San Diego Padres at Colorado Rockies sports betting odds and lines, with MLB betting picks, tips and best bets.

The San Diego Padres (21-15) and Colorado Rockies (17-17) wrap up a four-game set at Coors Field Monday with first pitch scheduled for 9:40 p.m. ET (on ESPN). Below, we analyze the Padres-Rockies MLB betting odds and lines, with picks and best bets.

Padres at Rockies: Projected starting pitchers

RHP Garrett Richards vs. RHP German Marquez

Richards, scheduled to start on short rest, is 1-2 with a 5.17 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 25 strikeouts across 31 1/3 innings over seven starts.

  • Richards started out well, going 1-1 with a 3.45 ERA through five outings, including back-to-back quality starts from Aug. 11-16. However, he has failed to make it out of the third inning in each of his past two outings.
  • Richards coughed up six runs, two homers and four hits while retiring just two batters in his last start Thursday against the Seattle Mariners.

Marquez checks in with a 2-4 record, 4.50 ERA and 1.33 WHIP with 40 strikeouts across 42 innings in his seven starts.

  • Marquez has lasted at least five innings in all seven of his outings this season.
  • Marquez is 1-0 with a 3.65 with four walks and 14 strikeouts across 12 1/3 innings in two starts vs. NL West opponents this season.

Prediction

Rockies 8, Padres 5

Moneyline (ML)

The ROCKIES (-112) are the play as they look for the series split. Marquez has a poor record, but he has actually been pretty solid and he eats plenty of innings. The Padres (+100) will go with Richards, who is working on short rest. That’s not good for a pitcher who hasn’t gotten out of the third inning in either of his past two outings. BACK THE ROX.

New to sports betting? A winning $10 bet on the Rockies ML returns a profit of $8.93. A $10 bet on the Red Sox ML profits $10 if they prevail.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The ROCKIES (+1.5, -167) should get to Richards early, and they’re worth a small-unit play at home against a shaky pitcher. Just don’t get too carried away.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 12 (-110) may seem high, but it’s a decent play. Two of the first three games went Over, and we have had at least 14 runs in each of those outings. Richards has been knocked around pretty good lately, and Marquez is usually good for at least four or five runs per outing. Look for plenty of runs again Monday.

San Diego Padres at Colorado Rockies odds, picks and best bets

Analyzing Sunday’s San Diego Padres at Colorado Rockies matchup, with MLB betting odds, picks and best bets

The San Diego Padres (20-15) continue their four-game set Sunday with Game 3 against the Colorado Rockies (17-16) at Coors Field. The first pitch is scheduled for 3:10 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Padres-Rockies MLB betting odds and lines, with picks and best bets.

Padres at Rockies: Projected starting pitchers

RHP Chris Paddack vs. RHP Ryan Castellani

Paddack checks in with a 2-3 record, 5.15 ERA and 1.23 WHIP with 34 strikeouts across 36 2/3 innings in his seven starts this season.

  • Paddack has allowed at least six earned runs in two of his past three outings, including six runs, eight hits and two homers given up over five innings in a loss against the Seattle Mariners Tuesday in his last start.
  • The sample size isn’t terribly high, but Paddack is 0-1 with a 9.00 ERA with a .343 opponent batting average across eight inning in his two road starts.

Castellani is 1-1 with a 3.54 ERA and 0.98 WHIP with 14 strikeouts in 20 1/3 innings across four starts this season.

  • Castellani posted his first-career quality start in Arizona on Monday last time out, allowing two earned runs, three hits and three walks with three strikeouts over six innings.
  • Castellani has a respectable ERA, but he has served up five home runs in his past three outings over 16 1/3 innings.

Prediction

Padres 7, Rockies 5

Moneyline (ML)

The PADRES (-162) are just 2-3 against the Rockies (+145) this season, all at Coors Field. Despite that, San Diego is facing a rookie pitcher while they have one of their top hurlers on the hill. Paddack is much better than his overall numbers indicate. While an assignment at Coors Field is a tough place for a pitcher to right the ship, he will, and the Padres will be victorious in the third of this four-game set.

New to sports betting? A $10 wager on Padres fetches a $6.20 profit if San Diego beats Colorado.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The PADRES (-1.5, -115) are risky business on the run line, but each of their past four wins have also covered the run line, too. In fact, they have won by two or more runs in six of the past eight.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 12.5 (-110) isn’t a slam-dunk play, and is a bit high despite the fact both teams rank in the bottom third of MLB in terms of bullpen ERA. This will be another slugfest, but going Over 12.5 runs is just way too much.

San Diego Padres at Colorado Rockies odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Saturday’s San Diego Padres at Colorado Rockies with MLB betting picks, tips and bets.

The San Diego Padres (20-14) continue their four-game set Saturday with Game 2 against the Colorado Rockies (16-16) at Coors Field. The first pitch is scheduled for 8:10 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Padres-Rockies MLB betting odds and lines, with picks and best bets.

Padres at Rockies: Projected starting pitchers

LHP Adrian Morejon vs. RHP Antonio Senzatela

Morejon hasn’t factored into a decision in his two previous appearances, posting a 5.79 ERA over 4 2/3 innings in two starts.

  • Morejon was tagged for three earned runs, three hits and a walk with three strikeouts while retiring just five batters in a start against the Houston Astros this past Sunday.
  • Morejon has simply operated as an “opener” in his two starts, so the Padres bullpen will have to do some heavy lifting. San Diego’s bullpen ranks 24th in the majors with a 5.35 ERA.

Senzatela has registered a 3-1 record, 3.96 ERA and 1.44 WHIP with 25 strikeouts across 36 1/3 innings in six starts.

  • Senzatela lost his last start to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Aug. 23. He pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowing seven hits, six earned runs and only struck out 1 batter in the 11-3 loss.

Special Colorado Promotion! Bet $1 on the Colorado Rockies vs. San Diego Padres matchup, WIN $100 (in free bets) if either team hits a home run during their game. Prediction

Padres 9, Rockies 7

Moneyline (ML)

The PADRES (-129) will look to build upon their momentum after a 10-4 victory against the Rockies (+115) in the series opener. Despite the win, they’re still just 2-2 in four meetings this season. With Morejon and Senzatela on the bump, this has the makings of a typical high-scoring Coors Field slugfest. Still, you should back the better team, and so far this season that’s San Diego.

New to sports betting? A $12.90 wager on Padres fetches a $10 profit if San Diego beats Colorado.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The PADRES (-1.5, +105) are worth a small-unit play, as they certainly looked comfortable at Coors Field on Friday. San Diego posted 10 runs, and against Senzatela, they could be in line for a repeat performance.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 13 (-110) is the way to go here. The opener ended up going over, with the visitors nearly taking care of business themselves. With unproven pitchers like Morejon and Senzatela going, we could see plenty of crooked numbers on the board. And we’re dealing with two of the poorest bullpens in the majors, as San Diego’s ‘pen ranks 24th in the league (5.35), while Colorado’s bullpen ranks 26th in the majors (5.66).

San Diego Padres at Colorado Rockies odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Friday’s San Diego Padres at Colorado Rockies betting odds and lines, with MLB betting picks, tips and bets.

The San Diego Padres (19-14) head to the Colorado Rockies (16-15) on Friday for the first of a three-game series in Coors Field at 8:40 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Padres-Rockies MLB betting odds and lines, with picks and best bets.

Rockies at Padres: Projected starting pitchers

RHP Zach Davies vs. LHP Kyle Freeland

Davies in 2020: 4-2 with a 3.03 ERA, .84 WHIP, 7.8 K/9 and 1.8 BB/9 in 35 2/3 IP over 6 starts.

  • Last start: Win in 8 IP with 4 H, 2 ER, 7 K and 2 BB against the Houston Astros on Aug. 22.
  • Career vs. Rockies: 2-2 with a 3.86 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, 15 K and 12 BB in 25 ⅔ IP over 5 starts.

Freeland in 2020: 2-1 with a 2.87 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, 5.7 K/9 and 2.4 BB/9 in 37 2/3 IP over 6 starts.

  • Last start: No-decision in 6 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 6 K and 3 BB in a 4-3 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday.
  • Career vs. Padres: 3-3 with a 3.60 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, 41 K and 16 BB in 50 IP over 8 starts and 2 appearances.

Special Colorado Promotion! Bet $1 on the Colorado Rockies vs. Arizona Diamondbacks matchup, WIN $100 (in free bets) if either team hits a home run during their game. Prediction

Padres 6, Rockies 2

Moneyline (ML)

The Padres (-106) dropped their last series against the Seattle Mariners two games to one, but they were on a seven-game win streak prior featuring two walk-offs and five grand slams in six games.

The Rockies (-106) swept the Arizona Diamondbacks in their previous series, breaking a seven-game losing streak in which two games Colorado lost by a walk-off.

Fernando Tatis Jr. is a favorite in the MVP race, and Manny Machado is red-hot, hitting .556 with 5 HR and 10 RBI in his last seven games.

Davies pitches better on the road than home and at night, and he has only allowed 4 ER in two career starts at Coors Field. He has good career numbers thus far against Nolan Arenado and Trevor StoryTAKE PADRES (-106).

New to sports betting? A $106 wager on Padres (-106) fetches a $100 profit if San Diego beats Colorado.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

I’ll say this for the Rockies +1.5 (-162): Freeland has looked good so far this season and has steady head-to-head stats against the Padres’ power hitters. Also, the listing for the Padres -1.5 (+135) doesn’t pay out enough to take their moneyline.

PASS ON THE MONEYLINE.

Over/Under (O/U)

There’s a couple of reasons to like the Over 11.5 (-110): The Over is 5-1 in these clubs’ last six meetings and 10-1 in the last 11 meetings in Colorado. But I “LEAN” Under 11.5 (-110). The total is high, and I like this game to be more of a pitcher’s duel than a slugfest.

San Diego Padres at Colorado Rockies odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Sunday’s San Diego Padres at Colorado Rockies sports betting odds and lines, with MLB betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Colorado Rockies (5-2) wrap up their weekend set against the NL West-rival San Diego Padres (6-3) Sunday at 3:10 p.m. ET at Coors Field. We analyze the Padres-Rockies betting odds and lines, with MLB picks and best bets.

Padres at Rockies: Projected starting pitchers

RHP Zach Davies vs. RHP Antonio Senzatela

Davis: 1-0, 3.60 ERA (2 ER in 5 IP), 9 K/9

  • Davis struck out five and walked none, while surrendering two earned runs in his Padres debut July 28 against the San Francisco Giants.
  • Went 10-7 with 3.55 ERA across 31 starts and 159 2/3 innings for the Milwaukee Brewers last season.

Senzatela: 1-0, 3.60 ERA (2 ER in 5 IP), 5.4 K/9

  • 11-11 in 2019 with a 6.71 ERA across 25 starts and 124 2/3 innings.

Prediction

Padres 8, Rockies 5

Moneyline (ML)

The Padres (-128) won the series opener 8-7 Friday but gave it right back to the Rockies (+115) Saturday, with Colorado winning by a convincing 6-1 margin.

San Diego has a large edge in Sunday’s pitching matchup. Davies was a staple of the Brewers’ rotation last season, and he has started his Padres tenure well. He allowed just one run over five innings in his lone career start at Coors Field to date.

Senzatela started the season well, but he still walked three batters in just five innings. The Padres rank third in baseball with a 12.5 BB% and have stolen six more bases than any other team (14). They can’t be given free passes.

Back the PADRES (-128) to win Sunday’s game and take the intradivisional series.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Padres to win would return a profit of $7.80.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

Increase your profit margin by taking the PADRES -1.5 (+105) to win by at least two runs.

The Rockies (+1.5, -125) are a league-best 6-1 against the run line and cover by an average of 3.4 runs per game. San Diego is 6-3 on the RL. It wins by an average of 1.6 runs per game and covers by 0.4 runs.

Back the visitors due to the dramatic edge in the starting pitching matchup.

Over/Under (O/U)

As usual, the Coors Field contest comes with the highest projected run total of the day at 13.5. With Senzatela typically pitching at least a bit better in his hitter-friendly home park and Davies having a positive outing in Colorado on his resume, take the UNDER 13.5 (-110).

The first two games of the series – Colorado’s first at home this season – played to either side of Sunday’s line.

Esten’s 2020 MLB betting record: 10-7

Prediction

Rockies 9, Padres 6

Moneyline (ML)

The Padres (-121) are favored after a typical Coors Field barnburner, an 8-7 back-and-forth win, snapping the Rockies’ four-game win streak. With an even pitching matchup between Saturday’s starters, go with the guy who has had sustained success pitching in the Denver ballpark. That is Freeland. The ROCKIES are good value at +110. Take COLORADO.

New to sports betting? A winning $10 bet on the Rockies returns a profit of $11.00.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The Rockies are +1.5 (-134), while the Padres are -1.5 (+110). If you like the Rockies on the moneyline, you’ll love them on the run line, although it’s a bit chalky. If you think the Rockies are going to win straight up, definitely take the ROCKIES +1.5 (-134) to not lose by 2 runs or more.

Over/Under (O/U)

The O/U is 12.5 with -110 odds on both sides. The Friday game showed that, if the bullpens become a factor, the runs will start to pile up. They went Over the 11.5 run total Friday and you can expect more of the same Saturday. Go with the OVER 11.5 (-110).

The San Diego Padres (5-2) and Colorado Rockies (4-1) open a three-game series Friday at Coors Field at 8:10 p.m. ET. We analyze the Padres-Rockies MLB betting odds and lines, with picks and best bets.

Padres at Rockies: Projected starting pitchers

RHP Garrett Richards vs. RHP Jon Gray

Richards: 0-0, 0.00 ERA, 6 K (1 start)

  • His 2020 debut was stellar, yielding just one hit in five scoreless innings of a no-decision vs. the Arizona Diamondbacks Sunday.
  • This will be Richards’ first career start at Coors Field.

Gray: 0-0, 1.93 ERA, 3 K (1 start, 4 2/3 IP)

  • Gray is 10-4 lifetime against the Padres with a 2.97 ERA in 20 games (19 starts).

Prediction

Rockies 7, Padres 4

Moneyline (ML)

The ROCKIES (-115) are slight favorites in their home opener vs. the Padres (+105). Gray is very good at home and Richards, although a quality pitcher, has never experienced pitching in the thin Denver air. Colorado has won four straight. Take the ROCKIES (-115).

New to sports betting? A winning $10 bet on the Rockies returns a profit of $8.70.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The Rockies are +1.5 (-176), while the Padres are -1.5 (+145). If you like the Rockies on the moneyline, you’ll love them on the run line, although it’s a bit chalky. That said, if you think the Rockies are going to win straight up, definitely take the ROCKIES +1.5 (-176) to not lose by 2 runs or more.

Over/Under (O/U)

The O/U is 11.5 with -110 odds on both sides. That is the Coors Field effect and the oddsmakers know it. Even with a higher total, games at Coors only hit the Over less than 52% of the time in 2019. This season, Colorado’s games have gone Under in four of five games – though they were all on the road. Padres games have gone Under four times as well so far. Because of the high total, take the UNDER 11.5 (-110).
