San Diego Padres at Los Angeles Dodgers odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Thursday’s San Diego Padres vs. Los Angeles Dodgers sports betting odds and lines, with MLB betting picks, tips and best bets.

The San Diego Padres (11-8) and Los Angeles Dodgers (12-7) close out their four-game NL West series Thursday with a 9:40 p.m. ET contest at Dodger Stadium. Below, we analyze the Padres-Dodgers MLB betting odds and lines, with picks and best bets.

San Diego has taken two of the first three games in the series and is 3-1 over its last four. The Dodgers shut out their Southern California neighbors, 6-0, Wednesday night.

Padres at Dodgers: Projected starting pitchers

RHP Chris Paddack vs. LHP Julio Urias

Paddack has earned a 3.18 ERA and 1.02 WHIP through 22 2/3 IP.

  • He has exhibited an uptick in velocity and ground-ball rate over his four starts. One of those four turns came against these Dodgers Aug. 3, and he allowed five hits and three earned runs but no walks over six innings in the win.
  • The LA lineup leans right, and that plays into a Paddack strength. Over 2019-20, the 24-year-old has yielded a .702 OPS to lefty bats and a mere .585 figure to righties.

Urias has successfully negotiated some frequent hard contact so far. He has a 2.40 ERA through 15 IP. The five-year veteran owns a 3.12 ERA over 66 career games.

  • San Diego has a .746 OPS against southpaws, and that’s with a .250 batting average on balls in play. The Friars’ average of 5.22 runs per game ranks fourth in the majors.

Moneyline (ML)

A banged-up LA offense has been pedestrian of late with a .678 OPS over the last nine games, and there are some significant splits that swing this one to a fair chance for the visiting Friars. BACK THE PADRES (+125).

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Dodgers to win returns a profit of $12.50.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

Both sides end up in their fair share of one-run games. Figure a slight lean toward the PADRES +1.5 (-160).

Over/Under (O/U)

The figure is pegged here, and there aren’t a lot of hidden analytics that shade a play either way. AVOID the Over 8.5 (-110)/Under 8.5 (-110).

San Diego Padres at Los Angeles Dodgers odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Tuesday’s San Diego Padres at Los Angeles Dodgers sports betting odds and lines, with MLB betting picks, tips and best bets.

The San Diego Padres (10-7) play Game 2 of a four-game set against the Los Angeles Dodgers (11-6) Tuesday at Dodger Stadium. First pitch is set for 9:40 p.m. ET. We analyze the Padres-Dodgers betting odds and lines, with MLB picks and best bets.

Padres at Dodgers: Projected starting pitchers

RHP Garrett Richards vs. RHP Ross Stripling

Richards has a 4.60 ERA through 15 2/3 IP. He has been steady but leaning toward mediocre in three starts.

  • The Padres right-hander has a limited history against current Dodgers bats, but in 53 PA Los Angeles has managed just a .545 OPS against him.
  • Richards posted tremendous numbers in 2014-15 with the Los Angeles Angels, but he has since been derailed by injuries. The now-32-year-old has made just 34 starts over the last five seasons.

Stripling is 3-0 with a 4.00 ERA. He has yielded just a 1.00 WHIP and has 16 strikeoutt 16 in 18 frames.

  • Stripling is facing the Padres for a second time in six days. San Diego got to him for 4 runs in 5 2/3 IP Aug. 5.
  • Stripling likes pitching in Chavez Ravine. He owns a career ERA of 3.06 in the Dodgers’ home yard.

Moneyline (ML)

San Diego took the series opener, 2-1, Monday night. The pitchers’ duel in that one was a slowdown for the Padre offense which had logged a .848 OPS over its previous six games.

San Diego bats make good contact, and their lefty bats are tough on right-handers, but that’s a strength-on-strength factor in this matchup. Stripling is tough on LHBs and the LA bullpen is especially tough on lefty swingers.

The Padres ‘pen is beaten up by injuries, and the LA relief corps is elite. TAKE THE DODGERS (-154).

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Dodgers to win returns a profit of $6.49.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The O/U is a well-priced, moderate number, but LOS ANGELES -1.5 (+125) has some value. Consider an undercard play attached to the straight moneyline side. LA is 4-1 after losses this season; all four wins have been by multiple runs.

Over/Under (O/U)

Recent trends are even on both sides. The last 10 Dodger Stadium games in the series have resulted in eight Unders. BUT TAKE A PASS ON THE OVER 8.5 (-110)/UNDER 8.5 (-110).

The San Diego Padres (9-7) and Los Angeles Dodgers (11-5) begin a four-game series Monday at Dodger Stadium with a 9:40 p.m. ET first pitch on ESPN+. We analyze the Padres-Dodgers’ betting odds and lines, with MLB picks and best bets.

Padres at Dodgers: Projected starting pitchers

RHP Garrett Richards vs. RHP Dustin May

Richards heads into this one with an 0-1 record, 4.60 ERA and 1.21 WHIP across 15 2/3 innings with 16 strikeouts and two homers allowed over three outings.

  • He faced the Dodgers in his most recent outing, allowing four earned runs, five hits and a walk in five innings in a 7-6 loss.
  • Richards threw just 54 of his 89 pitches for strikes, including 13 first-pitch strikes to the 21 batters he faced.

Prediction

Dodgers 7, Padres 4

Moneyline (ML)

The DODGERS (-162) are a little pricy for my liking, as generally my limit is -170 on moneyline plays. Based on the trends in this series, however, I’ll take my chances.

LA has posted a 44-17 record in the previous 61 head-to-head meetings at Chavez Ravine, and they’re 41-17 in the past 58 meetings overall, including two of three last week in San Diego.

New to sports betting? A winning $10 bet on Los Angeles returns a profit of just $6.20, while the Padres pulling the upset (+145) would fetch a profit of $14.50.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The DODGERS (-1.5, +125) are more attractive on the alternate run-line at plus-money, as they own the Padres (+1.5, -149). While San Diego has played pretty good baseball this season and is no pushover, Dodger Blue has dominated this series.

In addition, LA has won 10 of its 11 games this season by two or more runs. That includes May’s start, a 5-2 win, on Aug. 4 in San Diego.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 8.5 (-110) is worth a small-unit play. The Over is 4-1 in the past five road games for the Padres, and 14-6-3 in their past 23 series openers, too. The Over is 2-0-2 in the past four divisional games for the Dodgers, while going 5-2-1 in the past eight meetings overall in this series.
