Indiana Pacers at Portland Trail Blazers odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Friday’s Indiana Pacers at Portland Trail Blazers odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Indiana Pacers (3-6) travel to the “Rose City” Friday to play the Portland Trail Blazers (3-5) at the Moda Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 10 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Pacers vs. Trail Blazers odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions, and bets.

Indiana has won and covered in back-to-back games over the San Antonio Spurs and New York Knicks following a four-game losing skid Oct. 25-30. The Pacers rank fifth in effective field goal shooting (eFG%) and have played the toughest strength of schedule thus far. Indiana is 4-5 ATS and 4-5 (O/U).

Portland returns home after losing three straight on the road at the Charlotte Hornets, Philadelphia 76ers and Cleveland Cavaliers. The Trail Blazers have the third-worst defensive eFG% but are fourth in rebounding rate. Portland is 3-5 ATS and 3-5 O/U.

These teams split last year’s season series 1-1 with the road teams winning by double digits in both meetings.

Pacers at Trail Blazers odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Pacers 117, Trail Blazers 108

Money line

Let’s fade the public and “sprinkle” on the PACERS (+170). Both teams have a first-year head coach, but Indiana’s Rick Carlisle has been to multiple NBA Finals and won a title whereas Portland’s Chauncey Billups is in his first season.

Indiana’s head coaching edge is proven when you compare the Pacers’ halfcourt offense to the Trail Blazers’.

ShotQuality.com says Indiana attempts the ninth-most field goals from halfcourt offense and Portland attempts the fourth-most. However, the Trail Blazers have the third-worst defensive efficiency vs. halfcourt shot types.

Furthermore, Indiana attempts the seventh-most field goals off screens and 11th-most catch-and-shoot 3-pointers, but Portland’s defense has the fourth-worst efficiency vs. shots off screens and third-worst efficiency vs. catch-and-shoot 3-pointers.

Finally, according to Pregame.com, more than 80% of the cash wagered is on Portland’s money line and, typically, the contrarian mindset is profitable in sports betting.

Against the spread

Definitely BET the PACERS +5.5 (-120) heavier than or instead of their money line. A vast majority of the market is betting the Trail Blazers laying the points as well.

Moreover, the road team won and covered both meetings last season and Indiana’s victory over the Trail Blazers was more analogous to this game than Portland’s vs. the Pacers.

What I mean by that is Indiana was missing both frontcourt starters in its 133-112 loss to Portland at home. So the Pacers having forward Domantas Sabonis and big Myles Turner back in the starting 5 for this game will make a huge difference to Indiana’s efficiency on both ends of the floor.

Over/Under

PASS with a slight “lean” to the Over 222.5 (-115) because I envision Indiana’s offense lighting up Portland’s awful defense and there are reasons to be confident in Trail Blazers’ offense in this contest.

That said, this is a “Pros vs. Joe’s” game in the betting market with a majority of the cash being on the Under and the public rolling with the Over. Typically, it’s wiser to follow the money in sports betting so I’ll avoid betting on my Over “lean” because my handicap on the total isn’t sharp.

Portland Trail Blazers at Indiana Pacers odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Tuesday’s Portland Trail Blazers at Indiana Pacers NBA odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The Portland Trail Blazers (32-28) drop by Bankers Life Fieldhouse Tuesday for a 7 p.m. ET tip-off against the Indiana Pacers (29-31). Below, we analyze the Trail Blazers-Pacers odds and lines, with NBA picks and predictions.

Portland has lost five in a row (2-3 against the spread) and seven of eight including back-to-back losses to the Memphis Grizzlies Friday and Sunday.

The Blazers have slid down to the 7 seed in the West (seeds 7-10 participate in the postseason play-ins), 1 game behind the sixth-place Dallas Mavericks.

Indiana has won three straight following a three-game losing skid and is 3-3 ATS in those contests.

The Pacers are comfortably in ninth place in the East, 2.5 games back of the 6th-place Boston Celtics, but 3.5 games ahead of the Chicago Bulls and Toronto Raptors, who are tied for 11th place.

Indiana trounced Portland 111-87 in the first meeting this season back in January. Pacers All-Star PF Domantas Sabonis scored 23 points on 55.5% shooting with 15 rebounds and 5 assists in the win, but he is currently out with a back injury.

Trail Blazers at Pacers: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Trail Blazers 124, Pacers 117

Money line (ML)

PASS because I only slightly “lean” to Portland covering but wouldn’t lay it with Trail Blazers (-190).

Furthermore, the Blazers should be motivated to get some revenge for their embarrassing loss to the Pacers earlier this season and Indiana is without its only All-Star.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

Slight “LEAN” to the TRAIL BLAZERS -4.5 (-110) for a quarter unit since I’m not putting any stock in the Pacers’ three-game win streak.

Indiana’s last three wins have come against “tanking” teams such as the Orlando Magic, Detroit Pistons and Oklahoma City Thunder.

More importantly, the Pacers have the second-worst cover rate at home (8-20 ATS in home games) and are just 2-7 ATS with a minus-5.2-point spread differential as a home dog.

Over/Under (O/U)

TAKE OVER 234.5 (-115) for 1 unit and this is my best bet in Trail Blazers-Pacers.

Ultimately, Portland will figure out how to win this game and should execute better at the end of halves, but Indiana should put up a lot of points.

According to CleaningTheGlass.com, the Pacers attempt the second-highest volume of shots at the rim and the Blazers are 23rd in defensive field-goal shooting for attempts at the rim.

This was a big reason for Indiana’s epic blowout victory over Portland earlier this season as the Pacers outscored the Blazers in the paint 62-28.

Also, Indiana scores the second-most fast-break points per game and Portland’s defense gives up the fourth-most fast-break points per game.

Pacers at Trail Blazers: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Blazers 115, Pacers 109

Money line (ML)

The Blazers have won four in a row and now get to kick-off seven straight games at home, although they are playing their second straight night. The Pacers are 3-1 on the road and have split the first two games of their four-game road trip. They are a team in transition with the trade of SG Victor Oladipo.

Take the BLAZERS (-150).

Against the spread (ATS)

The 2.5-point spread doesn’t leave much room for error here. Indiana’s work against the spread this season has been consistent. They have covered in all their wins and have not covered in any of their losses. They are 3-0 straight up and ATS as underdogs this season.

Portland is 5-6 ATS overall, covering the spread in five of their seven wins. They are 4-4 ATS as favorites but only 1-4 ATS at home. That said, expecting a Portland win straight up, it doesn’t make sense to predict a Pacers cover with only a 2.5-point spread.

Take the BLAZERS -2.5 (-115).

Over/Under (O/U)

Both teams combine to average over 233 points per game this season. Defensively, they allow a combined 226 points.  Each total set in Portland’s last seven games has been over 230 and they have gone Under in four of them.

They are 3-5 O/U with a total set of at least 228.5. The 228.5 is the second-highest total set in any Pacers’ game this season. Their games’ total has been 220 or more only five times. They are 3-2 O/U in those games. Take UNDER 229.5 POINTS (-110).
