Sixers select Otto Porter Jr. No. 11 overall in 2013 NBA redraft

The Philadelphia 76ers select Otto Porter Jr. No. 11 overall in a re-draft of 2013.

The Philadelphia 76ers entered the 2013 NBA draft looking to select key pieces to begin a lengthy rebuild. After a disappointing 2012-13 season with the failed Andrew Bynum move, the Sixers began “The Process” era.

Philadelphia traded Jrue Holiday to the New Orleans Pelicans for the No. 6 pick, which turned out to be Nerlens Noel. However, they also had their own pick at No. 11 and selected Syracuse guard Michael Carter-Williams.

Carter-Williams went on to win Rookie of the Year in 2014 with averages of 16.7 points, 6.3 assists, 6.2 rebounds, and 1.9 steals. However, the Sixers sent Carter-Williams to the Milwaukee Bucks at the 2015 deadline.

In a redraft done of 2013 by HoopsHype, the Sixers select Otto Porter Jr. at No. 11 rather than MCW:

There was a chance for Porter Jr. to have had a better career than he has had, with injuries and inconsistency causing him to fall off after a quick peak in 2017-18. Porter Jr. was a versatile swingman in his prime, who could do more than just shoot with his feet set. The Georgetown product could shoot off the dribble and run a pick-and-roll, as well as defend multiple positions.

Porter was originally selected third in 2013 by the Washington Wizards. In 11 NBA seasons, he averaged 10.3 points and 4.9 rebounds while shooting 39.7% from deep. He won a title with the Golden State Warriors in 2022.

Former Warrior Otto Porter Jr. retires from NBA

The veteran forward was a key piece during the Warriors run to a title in 2022.

On Monday evening, a key member of the Golden State Warriors’ run to a championship in 2022 announced his retirement from the NBA. After 10 seasons in the NBA, Otto Porter Jr. announced his retirement from the league.

In his only season in the Bay Area with the Warriors, Porter Jr. averaged 8.2 points on 46.4% shooting from the field and 37% from beyond the arc in 22.2 minutes per game on the way to the NBA Finals in 2022.

Porter Jr. started three games in the NBA Finals against the Celtics, averaging 5.2 points on 58.8% shooting from the field and 56.3% from deep with two rebounds, a steal and an assist per game.

Should Celtics consider Otto Porter Jr. if veteran wing hits buyout market?

If the Utah Jazz and veteran wing Otto Porter Jr. agree to a contract buyout, should the Celtics get involved?

At the time of this writing, the Boston Celtics have an open roster spot and could look to add another player ahead of the postseason. That may mean signing an existing free agent or adding a player who accepts a contract buyout in the next few days and weeks. As such, one name to monitor might be Utah Jazz veteran Otto Porter Jr.

Porter joined the Jazz at the trade deadline of this year, and according to the Athletic’s Tony Jones, Utah is giving the 30-year-old time to evaluate his options. The Jazz are unlikely to make a run at a playoff berth, and a contract buyout would allow Porter a chance to join a contender before the regular season ends.

The Celtics are considering their own options. After adding Xavier Tillman and Jaden Springer, could Boston prioritize bringing in an experience player to round out the roster?

Notre Dame’s last game against Georgetown

Between 1996 and 2013, Notre Dame and Georgetown played each other at least once ever year as Big East rivals.

Between 1996 and 2013, Notre Dame and Georgetown played each other at least once ever year as Big East rivals. When the programs, who will play a home-and-home series the next two seasons, met Jan. 21, 2013 at Purcell Pavilion, the conference series was tied at 11. With the Irish about to move to the ACC, the game decided who had perpetual conference bragging rights. That turned out to be the Hoyas, who upset the No. 24 Irish, 63-47, en route to winning a share of the Big East title.

Future NBA journeyman Otto Porter Jr. led all scorers with 19 points and came within a rebound of a double-double. D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera scored 14 off the bench for the Hoyas. Moses Abraham, another Hoyas reserved, had 10 boards.

[autotag]Jerian Grant[/autotag] led the Irish with 13 points and had a game-high three steals. [autotag]Pat Connaughton[/autotag] scored 12, and [autotag]Jack Cooley[/autotag] achieved a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds. However, the team shooting an overall 34.7% from the field proved too much to overcome. Not even Red Panda’s halftime performance could inspire the Irish enough.

As we prepare for the upcoming home-and-home, here are the images of this game Irish fans probably would rather forget:

Report: Free-agent Otto Porter Jr. agrees to deal with Toronto Raptors

Free-agent forward Otto Porter Jr. has reportedly agreed to a deal with the Toronto Raptors.

After one championship run with the Golden State Warriors, veteran forward Otto Porter Jr. is reportedly heading North. According to Chris Haynes of Yahoo! Sports, Porter Jr. is signing a two-year deal with the Toronto Raptors.

Via @ChrisBHaynes on Twitter:

In his lone season with the Warriors, Porter Jr. played a versatile role on the way to the NBA Finals. Porter Jr. started 15 games and came off the bench during his campaign with Golden State. The 29-year-old veteran averaged 8.2 points on 46.4% shooting from the field with 5.7 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.1 steals in 22.2 minutes per game.

After falling down 1-2 in the NBA Finals, Porter Jr. was plugged into the starting lineup over Kevon Looney. Golden State went on to win the next three games to close out the Boston Celtics for their fourth championship in the last eight seasons.

Prior to joining the Warriors, Porter Jr. has played with the Washington Wizards, Chicago Bulls and Orlando Magic over his nine-year career.

Final free agent list: 5 targets who make sense for Philadelphia 76ers

Here is a final list of 5 targets who make sense for the Philadelphia 76ers in free agency in 2022.

Free agency is set to begin on Thursday night and the Philadelphia 76ers still need to make some moves in order to clear enough space to sign who they want–i.e., P.J. Tucker–but now is the time to take one more list of players who fit what the Sixers want to do ad build around Joel Embiid and James Harden.

The Sixers need players who are not afraid to pull the trigger on an open 3-ball, can provide quality depth on the wings, and they also have to come on the cheap. Philadelphia will be working with a tight budget as they only have certain exceptions they can offer to free agents and the biggest one–the nontaxpayer mid-level exception–will likely be offered to Tucker.

Therefore, Sixers Wire has put together a list of five players who look like they can fit with the Sixers want to do in the 2022-23 season and help contend for a title.

Warriors starting Otto Porter Jr. over Kevon Looney for Game 3 vs. Celtics

The Golden State Warriors will make a change to the starting lineup for Game 3 of the NBA Finals against the Boston Celtics.

After dropping two of the first three games of the NBA Finals, the Golden State Warriors will make a change to their starting lineup in Game 3 against the Boston Celtics.

On Friday night in Boston, Kevon Looney will move to the bench and veteran forward Otto Porter Jr. will shift into the starting lineup. Porter Jr. will join Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Andrew Wiggins and Draymond Green in the starting lineup.

Injury Report: Andre Iguodala, Gary Payton II and Otto Porter Jr. questionable for Game 1 vs. Celtics

Andre Iguodala, Gary Payton II and Otto Porter Jr. are listed as questionable for Game 1 of the NBA Finals against the Boston Celtics.

With the stage for the highly-anticipated NBA Finals set, the Golden State Warriors are just waiting on the status of three key injured rotational pieces for Game 1.

During Golden State’s run to the postseason, Andre Iguodala, Gary Payton II and Otto Porter Jr. have all missed time due to different injuries. After practicing on Tuesday and Wednesday, the trio of players are listed as questionable on the injury report for Game 1 of the NBA Finals on Thursday.

Via @anthonyVslater on Twitter:

Iguodala played only 31 games during the regular season and hasn’t suited up for the postseason since Game 4 of the opening-round series against the Denver Nuggets. Iguodala has missed time in the playoffs due to a left cervical disc injury in his neck.

Prior to Payton II’s injury in Game 2 of the second round against the Memphis Grizzlies, the wing played a key role in Golden State’s postseason run. Payton II started back-to-back games for the Warriors, averaging 6.1 points in 15.8 minutes per contest during the playoffs.

Payton II suffered a fractured elbow after a flagrant foul from Memphis guard Dillon Brooks.

Porter Jr. was ruled out for Game 4 and Game 5 of the Western Conference finals against the Dallas Mavericks with left foot soreness. Before his injury, Porter Jr. was averaging 5.5 points in 20.7 minutes per game.

If all three players are available for Game 1, Steve Kerr will have to get creative with his rotation for the Finals. With all three veteran contributors back in the rotation, the Warriors will get a significant boost in depth off the bench.

The Warriors and Celtics will open Game 1 of the NBA Finals on Thursday night at 6 p.m. PT in San Francisco.

Gary Payton II, Otto Porter Jr., Andre Iguodala full participants in practice on Tuesday

After each player missed time during the playoffs due to injury, Gary Payton II, Andre Iguodala and Otto Porter Jr. were full participants in a light practice on Tuesday before the NBA Finals.

Before the NBA Finals gets underway, there will be a lot of attention on the group of injured players for the Golden State Warriors. During the Warriors’ postseason run, Otto Porter Jr., Andre Iguodala and Gary Payton II have all missed time due to different injuries.

With the start of the Finals looming, the Warriors got a positive sign for their injured trio. On Tuesday, Payton II, Porter Jr. and Iguodala were full participants in Golden State’s practice, per Anthony Slater of The Athletic.

Although they returned to a “lighter practice,” the status for Payton II, Porter Jr. and Iguodala is still unclear. Steve Kerr will have a better idea of their availability after a full contact practice on Wednesday.

Via @anthonyVslater on Twitter:

Iguodala has been out the longest, missing the last two playoff series after being ruled out in Game 5 of the first round against the Denver Nuggets. Iguodala has missed the rest of the postseason due to a left cervical disc injury.

Payton II was last on the court during Game 2 of the second round against the Memphis Grizzlies. Payton II suffered a fractured elbow following a hard foul from Memphis guard Dillon Brooks.

Porter Jr. missed Game 4 and 5 of the Western Conference Finals against the Dallas Mavericks with left foot soreness.

Since clinching a birth in the NBA Finals, the Warriors have had the last six days off. With an extended rest, the Warriors could get a timely spark in their rotation with the return of three impact players on the bench.

The Warriors and Celtics will tip-off in Game 1 of the NBA Finals on Thursday night at 6 p.m. PT.

Injury Report: Otto Porter Jr. out (foot soreness) for Game 4 vs. Mavs

The Warriors will be without veteran Otto Porter Jr. due to foot soreness for Game 4 on Tuesday against the Mavericks.

With the chance to sweep the Dallas Mavericks and officially make their return to the NBA Finals, the Golden State Warriors will be without a key veteran off the bench for Game 4 on Tuesday.

After making an early exit from Game 3 with an apparent injury in the second quarter, Otto Porter Jr. has officially been ruled out for Game 4 against the Mavs due to right foot soreness.

For Game 4, the Warriors will now be without Porter Jr., Andre Iguodala and Gary Payton II off the bench.

Via @anthonyVslater on Twitter:

Despite suffering a pair of foot injuries during the playoffs, Porter Jr. has played a critical role for the Warriors off the bench. Along with being on the floor for over 20 minutes in all but three games for the Warriors during the postseason, Porter Jr. has recorded double-figures in scoring in four of his last six games.

During the playoffs, the Georgetown product is averaging 5.5 points on 46.7% shooting from the floor with 4.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 20.7 minutes per contest.

Without Porter Jr., Steve Kerr could go in a few different ways to fill Porter Jr.’s minutes. The Warriors could opt to use rookie Jonathan Kuminga, or veterans Juan Toscano-Anderson and Nemanja Bjelica.

Toscano-Anderson played five minutes in Game 3 on Sunday. Both Kuminga and Bjelica haven’t played since Game 1 against the Mavericks.

Game 4 is set to tip-off at 6 p.m. PT in Dallas on Tuesday.
