Oscar De La Hoya accuses Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson of being ‘scripted’

Oscar De La Hoya goes off on Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson boxing match.

[autotag]Oscar De La Hoya[/autotag] thinks there was something fishy going on for last week’s [autotag]Jake Paul[/autotag] vs. [autotag]Mike Tyson[/autotag] boxing match.

Although there’s no real proof, many online have questioned the validity of Paul’s unanimous decision win over Tyson last Friday at the Dallas Cowboys’ AT&T Stadium. De La Hoya, a former boxing world champion and now promoter, is also on that boat, as he recently accused Paul of staging the fight with Tyson – which would be illegal.

“Everyone is talking about how staged this fight was, and I do believe it was scripted, and I believe that Tyson was certainly held back,” De La Hoya said on Instagram. “Look, I’m a fighter, and I can see it. It goes on their record and it was sanctioned. So Jake Paul paid to get the W on his record, for what? For your own personal satisfaction?

“I keep telling you, if you want to be a real fighter like to say you want to be, what are you doing? Like, who’s next? Joe Biden? You have to fight real fighters. However, the fight drew 65 million households, which means roughly 200 million eyeballs were watching, and the huge winners were Amanda Serrano and Katie Taylor, who put on an incredible real fight that were introduced to new fans around the world.”

Paul and Tyson fought in an eight-round boxing match in front of an estimated crowd of more than 70,000 people at the Dallas Cowboys’ AT&T Stadium. There was also a reported 108 million live global viewers on Netflix – the platform the event streamed on.

Paul, 27, is now 5-0 since suffering his first pro loss, which came against Tommy Fury back in 2023. He’s 11-1 in his entire pro boxing career. Meanwhile. Tyson, 58, fought professionally for the first time since his loss to Kevin McBride in 2005. He did compete in an exhibition bout in 2020, fighting fellow legend Roy Jones Jr. to a draw.

Oscar De La Hoya says he’s attending UFC 306 over Canelo-Berlanga ‘snoozefest’

Surprise! It looks like Oscar De La Hoya will be attending UFC 306 over Canelo’s title defense against Berlanga.

Two of [autotag]Oscar De La Hoya[/autotag]’s most bitter enemies will be hosting events on Mexican Independence weekend, and he’s already made his pick as to which one he’ll attend.

De La Hoya, a retired boxing legend and now promoter, has had long public feuds with boxing champion [autotag]Canelo Alavrez[/autotag] and UFC CEO [autotag]Dana White[/autotag]. Alvarez will be defending his WBA, WBC and WBO super middleweight titles against [autotag]Edgar Berlanga[/autotag] at the T-Mobile Arena, while White will be putting on UFC 306 at the Sphere – both events going down in Las Vegas on Sep. 14.

With both events going head-to-head, De La Hoya has chosen to go out of his sport and attend UFC 306 over Alvarez’s title defense.

“We’re a week away from the boxing match that nobody asked for, and the UFC event that everyone will be watching,” De La Hoya said on his Instagram. “Canelo is fighting Berlanga, another snoozefest. They’re trying to sell a pay-per-view for $90 and $500 minimum to watch in person, it’s just robbery at this point to pay for another lame Canelo fight that always goes the distance against a subpar opponent.

“I’ll actually be attending the UFC event the Sphere instead. Now, I love the sport of boxing more than anything. I will be watching boxing matches anywhere and anytime – even if it’s a simple sparring session between two bums fighting on the street. So the idea that I’m choosing to attend a UFC event and support Dana White instead of Canelo, it tells you everything you need to know.”

De La Hoya and White have been at odds over the years. It’s well documented that they don’t like each other, yet De La Hoya seems excited to attend the UFC event on Sept. 14.

“Dana, I can’t wait to see you next Saturday, buddy,” De La Hoya said. “I see you got the same ab surgery that I got. I always knew that you wanted to be like me. It will be great to hang out with you face to face.”

Oscar De La Hoya pleads Floyd Mayweather to stop ’embarrassing’ exhibition bouts

Oscar De La Hoya criticizes Floyd Mayweather for his exhibition bouts post his professional boxing career.

From one boxing legend to another, [autotag]Oscar De La Hoya[/autotag] is pleading [autotag]Floyd Mayweather[/autotag] to hang up the gloves for good.

Mayweather retired from professional boxing after he defeated MMA star Conor McGregor in 2017, bringing his perfect record to 50 wins. Although Mayweather never set foot in the ring again as a professional fighter, he has stayed busy doing exhibition bouts with celebrities and influencers.

Mayweather’s most recent one was on Aug. 24, when he went the distance with John Gotti III in Mexico City. The fight was ruled a no result, given it was an exhibition bout, so no scoring was involved. It was an uneventful fight that had no knockdowns and plenty of boos.

De La Hoya is not keen on Mayweather’s exhibitions, and would like to see him stop.

“Floyd Mayweather fought another exhibition against Gotti last Saturday, a real sh*t show that left the crowd booing in the arena at the end,” De La Hoya said on his Instagram. “In the middle of the second round, Floyd literally had the referee swapped out. He didn’t like that the referee told him to stop hitting behind the head. Floyd is used to having the refs do whatever he wants, and he wasn’t getting his way this time.

“It was so embarrassing. Floyd, you’re 50 years old. You’re a legend in this sport, and I’ve stood up for you in countless interviews, including Shannon Sharpe’s podcast last week. But you have to stop embarrassing yourself with these exhibitions. I know life i hard and life is expensive, but come one man, put your legacy first. Nobody wants to remember you like this.”

Mayweather has fought in eight exhibition bouts since retiring professionally from boxing. The multiple-time former champion hasn’t shown any intention of stopping these exhibition bouts.

De La Hoya and Mayweather share more than the boxing promotor space. The two fought back in 2007 for the WBC middleweight title in a blockbuster fight. Mayweather defeated De La Hoya via split decision.

Oscar De La Hoya sounds off on ‘arrogant piece of sh*t’ Canelo for not working with Turki Alalshikh

Oscar De La Hoya had strong words for Canelo for not working with Turki Alalshikh, and accused him of ducking David Benavidez.

[autotag]Canelo Alvarez[/autotag]’s former promoter [autotag]Oscar De La Hoya[/autotag] took time out to send a firey message to boxing’s biggest star for not wanting to negotiate with Turki Alalshikh.

De La Hoya and Alvarez have repeatedly exchanged heated words over the years since falling out. In a social media video De La Hoya calls “Clap Back Thursdays,” the Hall of Fame boxer took aim at Canelo for not wanting to do business with Alalshikh, who has quickly become a major player when it comes to booking the best boxing matchups possible.

Alalshikh recently shared he was no longer interested in trying to make a fight with Canelo against Terence Crawford. The message prompted a public argument between Canelo and Alalshikh.

“So it turns out, I’m not the only one who thinks Canelo is an arrogant piece of sh*t,” De La Hoya said in a video on X. “Turki Alalshikh recently revealed that Canelo refused to meet with him in person, and isn’t entertaining any deals to be done with him.

“Why? Because he’s out-priced himself so much that the Saudis don’t even want to deal with him. And it’s all because he will do anything not to fight David Benavidez. Look, Turki is trying to make the best fights that everybody wants to see, and Canelo continues to take the fights that nobody wants to see.”

In what will be his second fight of the year after a unanimous decision win over Jaime Munguia in May, Canelo is scheduled to defend his WBA, WBC and WBO super middleweight titles against Edgar Berlanga on Sept. 14 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, the same day Noche UFC takes place at Sphere.

The scheduling conflict has been a frequent topic among boxing and MMA circles, especially for fans who like to watch both combat sports. De La Hoya, as he continued his rant, expressed his opinion about the date, and Berlanga, too.

“He claims he has a whole country behind him?” De La Hoya said. “Edgar, bro, You’re from Brooklyn. I think I’m more Puerto Rican than you are, and I only lived there for six years. Puerto Rico doesn’t claim you, bro.

“And as I said weeks ago, this fight will not do well on Sept. 14. Not only because the matchup is OK, but because they’re going up against the UFC’s debut at the Sphere in Las Vegas. Now that’s a spectacle that everyone and their mother has been waiting to see since it opened up about a year ago. And who is funding it and making it all happen? Turki Alalshikh.”

In conclusion, De La Hoya turned his focus back to Canelo, who he urged to reconsider his position about not wanting to be in business with Alalshikh.

“Canelo, you’re really making the wrong enemies,” De La Hoya said. “But you know what? F*ck you.”

Oscar De La Hoya criticizes those calling for Deontay Wilder’s retirement: ‘Give the man his respect’

Oscar De La Hoya tells the fans and media to back off Deontay Wilder.

[autotag]Deontay Wilder[/autotag] is in a career rut, and it’s bad enough that many pundits and fans are calling for his retirement—something that has rubbed [autotag]Oscar De La Hoya[/autotag] the wrong way.

Following his latest defeat, many have urged Wilder to hang up the gloves, but De La Hoya believes that’s a decision that belongs to Wilder and that people have no business weighing in on what he should do.

“Deontay Wilder got knocked out, OK? But there’s no need to bash him,” De La Hoya said in an Instagram Live. “There’s no need to say, ‘Oh, he must retire and this and that.’ There’s no need to bash him. Deontay Wilder will make his decision whether he wants to retire or not.

“You have to give the man his respect and respect his decision. My thinking behind it is, never tell a fighter when to retire. It’s a personal decision. It’s a decision only a fighter should make. This is our livelihood, this is our love, this is our passion.”

Wilder is 1-4 in his past five outings and has been stopped in three of those losses. This past Friday, China’s Zhilei Zhang put him away in the fifth round of their bout in Saudi Arabia. For many, it’s not only the defeats, but also how Wilder has looked.

De La Hoya invites Wilder to take some time off, ignore the critics, and then make a decision on his career.

“So Deontay, keep it going, man,” De La Hoya said. “Whatever you do, whatever you decide, take your time, go on a vacation and take your beautiful family. When you come back and make the decision, you’ll make the right one in your heart, for yourself. This is a very personal decision. This is life, so take your time, brother.”

Canelo Alvarez goes off on ‘f*cking p*ssy’ Oscar De La Hoya, separated mid-press conference

Things got heated between Canelo Alvarez and Oscar De La Hoya at Wednesday’s pre-fight press conference in Las Vegas.

[autotag]Canelo Alvarez[/autotag] and [autotag]Oscar De La Hoya[/autotag] had to be separated by security at Wednesday’s press conference for Alvarez’s title fight against [autotag]Jaime Munguia[/autotag].

De La Hoya, who promotes Munguia under Golden Boy, took several shots at Alvarez during his introductory speech at their pre-fight press conference in Las Vegas, claiming that Alvarez was built by Golden Boy and that he’s responsible for his rise in boxing – something Alvarez didn’t take kindly.

“You don’t feel what you’re saying, motherf*cker,” Alvarez told his former promoter. “You have to read it. They write it for you. They write it for you, motherf*cker. They have to write for him what he’s going to say to this f*cking p*ssy. You don’t write anything, you idiot.

“You don’t do sh*t. You’re a dumbass, that’s what you are. You’re a dumbass. There’s people doing everything behind the scenes. You’re just the image. You’re an idiot, motherf*cker.”

Alvarez stood up from his chair and approached De La Hoya, but was almost immediately stopped by security, who deescalated the situation.

Alvarez fights Mungia this Saturday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on DAZN Pay-Per-View. Alavrez, arguably the biggest star in boxing, defends his undisputed 168-pound championship against Mungia, who’s unbeaten his career.

Ryan Garcia-Golden Boy rift hovers over comeback fight on Saturday

A rift between Ryan Garcia and Golden Boy Promotions is hovering over Garcia’s comeback fight on Saturday in Houston.

Ryan Garcia has two fights on his hands.

One is a scheduled 140-pound bout with Oscar Duarte on Saturday in Houston, which will be streamed on DAZN. The other is with his promoter, Golden Boy Promotions, with which he has been at odds off and on the past several years.

The latter fight took a bizarre turn Thursday at the final news conference to promote Saturday’s event, when Garcia accused Oscar De La Hoya and Co. of backing Duarte.

The latest tribulations started when Golden Boy partner Bernard Hopkins said he would “make my personal decision on whether [Garcia] should fight again” after he meets Duarte.

Garcia (23-1, 19 KOs) is coming off a seventh-round knockout loss to Gervonta Davis in April, the first setback of the 25-year-old’s career. And that followed a 15-month layoff in 2021 and last year to focus on his mental health.

He took a shot at Hopkins at the news conference.

“He don’t decide that,” Garcia said. “My coach does, my team does, everybody that grinds with me day in and day out. That’s who decides.”

Garcia initially responded to Hopkins’ comments on social media. De La Hoya, Golden Boy chairman, suggested then that Garcia should focus on his training and not a misinterpretation of what Hopkins said.

Garcia addressed that at the news conference.

“Oscar saying that, you know, we misinterpret what they say,” Garcia said. “It’s plain English. I didn’t hear anybody speaking any language I don’t know. So, you know, it’s very clear to me that, you know, they’re backing [Duarte] to beat me, just like they thought [Romero] Duno was going to beat me. He was the next Filipino star. They say [Duarte is] the next Mexican star.”

De La Hoya said on social media after the news conference that he’s worried about Garcia’s state of mind, suggesting the fighter isn’t focused on Duarte. The Hall of Famer deleted the item. And Garcia has yet to respond.

The friction between Garcia and his handlers had never been so public but it’s nothing new.

In 2019 Garcia had expressed dissatisfaction with the size of his purses given his massive following on social media. Then, when he refused to face Duno – a late replacement opponent for Avery Sparrow, who had been arrested – the relationship deteriorated further.

Golden Boy President Eric Gomez said on social media that Garcia turned down the fight because Duno was “too tough,” per ESPN. Garcia exploded on social media.

“My promoter acted in a very unprofessional manner, saying things that were false about me,” Garcia said. “I’m a fighter and not afraid to fight anyone!!! My team tried tirelessly to negotiate a fair purse amount to save the show, but my promoter has shown little interest in my career.

“I promise I tried for my fans. But like all things in life, I’m staying positive and will come back soon.”

Garcia also took exception to De La Hoya’s assertion that Vergil Ortiz was the organization’s top fighter, not Garcia.

Then, as if nothing had happened, Garcia signed a five-year contract extension in September 2019, which was described by Golden Boy as “one of the most lucrative deals in history for a boxing prospect.”

That apparently means that the contract will end next September, less than a year from now. No one will be surprised if a divorce takes place then.

Ryan Garcia to return to ring against Oscar Duarte on Dec. 2 in San Antonio

Ryan Garcia is scheduled to return to the ring against Oscar Duarte on Dec. 2 in San Antonio, according to a report.

Ryan Garica is set for his return to the ring.

The 140-pound contender, coming off a seventh-round knockout loss to Gervonta Davis in April, will face Oscar Duarte of Mexico on Dec. 2 at the Alamodome in San Antonio (DAZN), ESPN is reporting.

Duarte (26-1-1, 21 KOs) has stopped all 11 of his opponents since he lost a decision to Adrian Estrella in 2019, although Garcia is a significant step up in opposition.

Plus, the 27-year-old from Parral, Chihuahua, will be moving up from 135 for the fight.

“Here you have a guy [Duarte] who’s coming off 11 KOs in a row,” said Garcia’s promoter, Oscar De Le Hoya. “There’s a guy who’s a power puncher who’s going to come forward and make Ryan fight.

“It’s the proper fight after a knockout loss to Gervonta.”

Garcia, a 25-year-old from Southern California, will be fighting as a full-fledged 140-pounder for the third time. He decisioned Emmanuel Tagoe at that weight in April of last year, stopped Javier Fortuna in six three months later and then lost to Davis at a catch weight of 136.

Davis stopped Garcia with a single body blow in the high-profile matchup between social media stars.

Garcia will have respected trainer Derrick James in his corner for the first time when he faces Duarte.

De La Hoya said Garcia will be looking for another big fight for Gacia if he gets past Duarte.

“We’re looking to do a major, major fight with Ryan, possibly around Super Bowl weekend,” De La Hoya said. “I would love to talk to Bob [Arum] to see what’s going on with him and Teofimo [Lopez], but there’s other options as well.”
