Magic at Knicks picks and predictions

Prediction

Magic 105, Knicks 102

Moneyline

BET MAGIC (-104).

Orlando has won 4 of its last 5 games on the road, and while most of those were against bottom-tier Eastern Conference sides, one was a 7-point win in Cleveland against the Cavaliers. The Magic have also had the Knicks number this season, winning all 3. They won 98-94 in the Jan. 15 meeting in New York despite shooting just 28% from deep.

That said, the Knicks have lost 3 of their last 4 games and 4 of their last 6. They have also lost 4 of their last 5 at home, only beating the Pistons. Expect the Magic to again come out on top. Take MAGIC (-104).

Against the spread

PASS.

Take the better odds for the road team on the moneyline, especially considering how injured New York is.

Over/Under

LEAN UNDER 208.5 (-110).

If there’s something both teams have done consistently as of late, it is hit the Under. The Knicks have gone Under in 6 of their last 7, scoring 100 or fewer in 3 of their last 4. New York could be without Brunson and will be without Randle, its second-leading scorer.

The Magic have gone Under in 6 of their last 7 games and have allowed 91 or fewer points in 3 of their last 5. They have a top-5 defensive rating and play at the 26th-quickest pace. The Knicks sit last in pace.

Expect a slow-tempo game and take UNDER 208.5 (-110).

Orlando Magic at New York Knicks odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Orlando Magic at New York Knicks odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The New York Knicks (1-1) welcome the Orlando Magic (0-3) to Madison Square Garden Monday. Tip is set for 7:30 p.m. ET (NBATV). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Magic vs. Knicks odds, and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

The Magic might not have a win yet this season, but they have been a fun team to watch behind the impressive play of No. 1 overall pick Paolo Banchero, who is averaging 23.3 points and 8.7 rebounds per game.

Orlando is coming off a 126-120 loss Friday to the Boston Celtics, covering as 8.5-point home underdogs. The Magic are 1-2 against the spread (ATS) this season.

The Knicks are 1 of the 5 teams undefeated ATS. New York beat the Pistons 130-106 in its last game on Thursday and opened the season with a 115-112 road overtime loss to Memphis.

The Knicks are led in scoring by F Julius Randle, who is averaging 19.5 points per game. New York has 7 players averaging in double figures through 2 games.

Magic at Knicks picks and predictions

Prediction

Knicks 113, Magic 108

Moneyline

PASS.

The Magic have a good roster, and they may pose a threat to New York. Nonetheless, I’ll pass on predicting Orlando to get its 1st win of the season on the road.

Against the spread

BET MAGIC +7.5 (-112).

Compared to where they were a season ago, the Magic have played well despite being winless. They sit 16th in the league in effective field goal percentage, 1 spot above the Knicks. They also sit 21st in offensive rating.

The main struggles for the Magic have been defensively, and while the Knicks sit 7th in offensive rating, they don’t have an MVP-caliber scorer, so this seems a tad inflated, especially considering they were 23rd a season ago.

Orlando has a few young guns who have impressed. Couple that with a spread this large, and I’d back the Magic to cover.

Over/Under

LEAN OVER 218.5 (-112).

The Knicks sit 6th in the NBA in offensive rebounding rate and added G Jalen Brunson in the offense, which has tremendously aided their halfcourt attack.

With Banchero adding a spark offensively for the Magic and G Franz Wagner having stepped up as well, points should come in bunches for both sides.

Also, the Magic have a defensive rating of 112.1, so defending is not a strength for the road side.

Orlando Magic at New York Knicks odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Orlando Magic at New York Knicks odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Orlando Magic (3-11) travel to Madison Square Garden Wednesday to take on the New York Knicks (8-6). Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Magic at Knicks odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

Without one of their best players (PF Jonathan Isaac) on the court, the Magic have been forced into playing some of their young prospects heavy minutes.

However, rookie SF Franz Wagner and second-year PG Cole Anthony have not disappointed. Both have been playing a high level despite Orlando only have three wins, one of which was against the Knicks.

The Magic split a two-game series with New York in October. The Knicks, on the other hand, have legitimate title aspirations behind All-Star PF Julius Randle.

With former MVP PG Derrick Rose on the roster, New York has one of the best second units in the NBA. At home, it’s a heavy favorite over a struggling Magic side.

Magic at Knicks odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Knicks 104, Magic 97

Money line

PASS.

The Knicks’ -900 price is far too expensive for a regular-season NBA game, especially against teams that split games earlier in the year.

Against the spread

BET the MAGIC +11.5 (-110) as the better value on this spread. If SG Jalen Suggs doesn’t play, the Magic will still have their four top scorers, all of which shoot over 43% from the field.

With the improvements of Wagner, averaging 13.8 points per game over his last eight, the Magic should be able to hang with New York. The Knicks’ strength has been their offense, not their defense like it used to be.

The Knicks have given up several big-time leads after the break, so even a slow start from Orlando wouldn’t be dire. The Knicks are 8-6 on the season, yet somehow have a -13.6 net third-quarter rating.

They just can’t hold leads, winning just three games by double figures. Orlando is a strong bet in this one.

Over/Under

“LEAN” to the UNDER 209.5 (-115) as both teams prefer a slower pace.

While the Knicks are in the top half of the league in offensive rating, they are in the bottom five in pace. They just aren’t a team that likes to push the ball, playing through Randle offensively.

The Magic are one of the worst shooting teams in the league, ranking 27th in true-shooting percentage. They also rank 27th in offensive rating. The Magic didn’t score more than 92 points in four of their last six games.

They just aren’t a dynamic scoring side without a consistent go-to option. While Anthony hopes to be that player, shooting under 44% from the field doesn’t help his case.

Considering the Magic’s struggles to score and the Knicks pace, I’d lean the Under for a small unit.

Magic at Knicks: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Knicks 103, Magic 99

Money line (ML)

The KNICKS (+100) are a nice play on Martin Luther King Day opener in at even money. New York upset the Boston Celtics 105-75 Sunday. The Magic lost at the Brooklyn Nets 122-115 Saturday.

Look to the home side to win in a defensive battle Monday.

Against the spread (ATS)

The KNICKS +1.5 (-110) are the way to go, although they’re a little more expensive and you’re not really getting that much insurance going with the point and a half. It’s better to just bet the money line in this instance.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 206.5 (-110) is worth a look, even though in this day and age it is an extremely low total. However, New York’s defense is nasty. Just ask the Celtics, who only were able to muster a pre-shot clock era-like 75 points Sunday against the Knicks. New York ranks second in the NBA with just 104.1 PPG allowed, and it’s first in defensive 3-pointer percentage at 31.2%, and fourth in opponent field-goal percentage at just 44.0%. New York is very deliberate on offense, going for just 101.3 PPG to rank 29th.
