Orlando Magic at Atlanta Hawks odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Orlando Magic at Atlanta Hawks odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Orlando Magic (0-1) visit State Farm Arena Friday to take on the Atlanta Hawks (1-0). Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Magic vs. Hawks odds, and our expert NBA picks and predictions.

The Magic come into this game following a 113-109 loss at the Detroit Pistons as 3.5-point underdogs and have yet to play a game at home. Orlando got out to a quick double-digit lead but couldn’t withstand a second- and third-quarter push from Detroit.

No. 1 overall pick F Paolo Banchero is already the Magic’s best player, having scored 27 points in his debut. He chipped in 9 rebounds and 5 assists in 35 minutes as well.

The Hawks enter fresh off a 117-107 home win over the Houston Rockets as 10.5-point favorites. Atlanta had 4 players score 20 or more points with G Trae Young having a game-high 13 assists to go along with his 23 points.

G Dejounte Murray had 20 points and 11 assists in his Hawks debut. Also notable, big man F/C Onyeka Okongwu chipped in 13 points and 9 rebounds in 21 minutes off the bench.

Magic at Hawks picks and predictions

Prediction

Hawks 115, Magic 105

Moneyline

PASS.

There’s no real value here with the Hawks (-500) as the clear favorite and the better team — the risk isn’t worth the reward.

Against the spread

LEAN HAWKS -9.5 (-105).

Atlanta is simply the better team. Murray helps cover many of its defensive flaws which were so often the destructive point a season ago. He appears to be the perfect fit with Young.

Banchero and the Magic are still a young team, and although they showed promise in spurts against Detroit, they couldn’t put it together for a full 48 despite shooting more efficiently and winning the rebounding battle.

Young and the Hawks have a much higher offensive ceiling. While the sample size is small, Orlando is 0-1 ATS as a road dog.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 225.5 (-112).

The Magic shot 48.8% from the field Wednesday and still only put up 109 points. They’ll be taking on a team with more size and quickness Friday.

The Hawks sit 7th in the league in defensive rating after 1 game. Their pace is high, but that’s the style of play Houston wanted to play at. The Magic will slow it down as they sit 18th in pace.

Orlando doesn’t have the scoring to consistently dominate offensively, and that will loom large on the total in this game. The Magic got just 17 points from their bench in their opener.

Orlando Magic at Atlanta Hawks odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Orlando Magic at Atlanta Hawks odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Orlando Magic (6-25) travel to Phillips Arena Wednesday to take on the Atlanta Hawks (14-15). Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Magic vs. Hawks odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

While the obvious focal point of this game is going to be who is out rather than who is taking the court, finding value is still possible.

The Hawks will be down several key players, but F John Collins is expected to play. G Lou Williams should also provide scoring. Atlanta is 7-7 against the spread as home favorites this season and will be down 4 of its top 5 scorers.

As for the Magic, they’re even more crippled by injury with more than 10 players showing on their final injury report.

However, impressive G Franz Wagner should suit up. There’s also a chance G Cole Anthony plays. It may be worth waiting to bet until his status is announced. The Magic are 10-9 as road underdogs.

Magic at Hawks odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Hawks 102, Magic 98

Money line

PASS on the money line. On the road without several key players, I wouldn’t back Magic at +230. Similarly, Atlanta is down too many difference-making players to make their -300 playable.

Against the spread

“LEAN” to the MAGIC +6.5 (-107).

This becomes especially juicy if Anthony plays as he’s averaging almost 20 points per game. Wagner and Anthony are the Magic’s two top scorers. If they’re in, I’d take the healthier Magic side.

Trusting Atlanta with four potential starters out and one of the league’s best sixth men is difficult to do. At this point in the season, being healthy is better than being the better team, and with that, the Magic should keep this one close.

Over/Under

BET on the UNDER 208.5 (-108). This is the side getting some of the juice, so it’s clear what the sportsbooks are favoring as well.

With Young and Gallinari out, Collins will have to step up, averaging just 17.2 points per game. With Williams, Anthony, and Wagner all relatively inefficient, Collins will be the only consistent scorer on both teams.

With that in mind, I’d side with fewer points given the star power that’ll be inactive.

Orlando Magic at Atlanta Hawks odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Orlando Magic at Atlanta Hawks odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Orlando Magic (3-10) travel to State Farm Arena Monday to take on the Atlanta Hawks (5-9). Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Magic vs. Hawks odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

While it is far too soon to say a team is in desperation mode, the Hawks need to figure it out now. They’re 2-8 in their last ten games and couldn’t down the Denver Nuggets two games back despite 56 from F John Collins and All-Star G Trae Young combined.

Having made it to the Eastern Conference Finals a year ago, the Hawks have been drastically disappointing to kick off the season.

While the Magic’s record isn’t even close to .500, they actually have played reasonably well. Led by G Cole Anthony, F Mo Bamba and rookie F Franz Wagner, Orlando ranks 27th in offensive rating and 26th in defensive rating, so they’re clearly still one of the weaker sides given their youth.

The Magic enter Monday as big-time road underdogs.

Magic at Hawks odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Hawks 112, Magic 100

Money line

PASS on the money line as you’ll never catch me laying -550 on a regular-season NBA game. However, the Hawks should win this one with relative ease. They’re 4-1 at home.

Against the spread

BET the HAWKS -10.5 (-110) as it has solid value.

While it feels like too many points, the Magic have been getting blown out lately. Given top-five draft pick Suggs is questionable and Young should know this is a must-win for his Hawks, Atlanta should come out on top with ease.

The Magic have lost four of their last five games by more than ten points, including losses of 13, 13, and 12. They aren’t hanging around in games.

Nonetheless, Young should be able to have his way with Anthony and a defensively lacking backcourt. Three of Atlanta’s five wins have been by more than 10 points.

Given this matchup will feature Atlanta’s 11th-best offense against the Magic 26th-best defense, the Hawks should get points on the board, and I expect it’d be enough to win by double digits.

Over/Under

“LEAN” to the UNDER 213.5 (-107) as the better value on the total.

Both teams are in the bottom half of the league in true shooting percentage despite the Hawks supposedly being one of the better three-point shooting teams in the league.

They just haven’t consistently found the range this season. Add in the fact that both teams have missed the 100-point mark in two of their last three games, and the Under feels like the much safer play.

Both teams are also bottom half of the league in pace, so this should be a slow-paced game.
