Oregon State at Utah: Three things to know

  1. The Beavers are coming off an impressive 41-38 win over rival Oregon last week in Corvallis, winning outright as 13-point underdogs. They’re averaging 36.0 points per game over the past two outings, and they are 2-0 ATS this season as double-digit underdogs.
  2. Oregon State has surprised with 190.8 rushing yards per game to rank 43rd in the nation, and it’s a respectable 59th with 30.3 PPG. Defensively, it is so-so, yielding 32.5 PPG and 200.8 rushing yards per game allowed.
  3. Utah fell 24-21 at Washington last week, slipping to 0-2 SU, although it did cover vs. the Huskies as a 9-point dogs. The Utes took a 21-0 lead into halftime, but were outscored 24-0 in the second half. The Under has connected in both of the Utes’ games as they’re averaging 19.0 PPG on offense and allowing 28.5 PPG on defense.

Oregon State at Utah: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Utah 27, Oregon State 20

Money line (ML)

Utah (-400) will cost you four times your potential return against a rather red-hot Oregon State (+320) side. That’s risky business on a team which has dropped its first two outings. PASS.

Against the spread (ATS)

OREGON STATE +11 (-110) catching double digits from winless Utah seems too good to be true. The Beavers are rolling on offense as QB Tristan Gebbia has completed 62 percent of his pass attempts for 824 yards and 3 touchdowns, while running for 2 more scores. RB Jermar Jefferson is one of the most unheralded backs in the nation, running for 675 yards and an average of 7.4 yards per carry with 7 TDs.

The Utes are strong against the run, allowing just 90.5 rushing YPG to rank seventh, so that will likely help them to their first victory of the season. But Utah has also struggled against the pass, and that will keep Oregon State in the game.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 51.5 (-110) is the lean here as Utah’s defense has been solid this season and it is playing at home. The lean is because it’s been Over all the time for Oregon State lately, cashing in 15 of the past 20 on the road, and five of the past seven overall.

However, the Under is 5-1-1 in the past seven for the Utes at Rice-Eccles, and 10-3-1 in the past 14 league games. The Under is also 3-0-1 in the past four meetings between these sides.
