Onurlap Bitim discusses teammate support in Bulls win over Cavaliers

After his solid night in the Chicago Bulls’ win over the Cleveland Cavaliers, Onurlap Bitim discussed the support he got from his teammtaes.

The Chicago Bulls suffered one of their worst losses of the season on Tuesday night. They lost to the Detroit Pistons while shooting a horrific 2-of-29 from behind the three-point line. And on Wednesday night, they had to play a second night of a back-to-back against the Cleveland Cavaliers, who are one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference.

Despite the quick turnaround, the Bulls managed to scrape out a win in double overtime. Their double-big lineup played a huge part, and so did Onurlap Bitim, who was on a two-way contract with Chicago but was recently converted to a standard deal.

Bitim gave the Bulls solid minutes off the bench, and after the game, he spoke about the support he got from his teammates. (H/t Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times)

“Deebo [DeMar DeRozan] told me he was proud of me,” Bitim said. “That means a lot to me. I grew up watching him. He was one of my idols. And now we’re on the court together. We won together. Hearing those words from him was a really huge blessing … him, Coby [White], Ayo [Dosunmu], Vooch [Nikola Vucevic], I’m very lucky because I have teammates and coaches like them.”

In 27:33 of action off the pine, he put up 10 points and six rebounds on 3-of-4 shooting from the floor and 2o-f-2 shooting from deep.

What are the Chicago Bulls doing for the rest of the season?

What is the Chicago Bulls’ plan for the remainder of the season?

When the Chicago Bulls decided to do nothing at the trade deadline, fans were upset. This year marks the third in a row that the Bulls decided to stand pat, choosing to keep the roster they have on hand in favor of pushing for the playoffs. What have they gotten out of it? One playoff win in two seasons.

Heading into the final stretch of this season, things are looking rough for the Bulls. Patrick Williams and Zach LaVine are both out for the rest of the season, and in their first game since the All-Star break, they got blown out by the Boston Celtics in a 17-point loss.

That said, Coby Whtie and Ayo Dosunmu have been playing well, and the Bulls just signed Onrulap Bitim to a standard deal. What will the rest of the year look like? The Chicago Bulls Central YouTube channel recently discussed this very topic.

The Bulls are in a very weird spot.

Best Onrulap Bitim Highlights: Watch Chicago Bulls’ newest player

The Chicago Bulls signed Onrulap Bitim to a standard contract, so here are some of his best highlights.

The Chicago Bulls have reportedly signed Onrulap Bitim to a standard NBA contract. Bitim was on a two-way deal with the Bulls this season, but now, he’ll be with the main roster. The 24-year-old wing spent most of his time playing overseas prior to this season before making the jump.

So far this season, he’s spent most of his time in the G League with the Windy City Bulls. While there, the 6-foot-6 Turkish sharpshooter has been putting up some pretty impressive stats. In 12 G League games, Bitim averaged 16.7 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 3.9 assists while shooting 45.6% from the field and 43.3% from behind the three-point line.

Here are some of Bititm’s best highlights from his time in the G League so far this season, as posted by the Bulls’ official YouTube channel.

Chicago hasn’t been a very good three-point shooting team for the past few seasons, so adding a guy like Bitim could be a smart long-term investment.

The Chicago Bulls have signed Onrulap Bitim to a two-way contract, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. Rumblings of this move were reported by Basket News at the end of June, but nothing was made official. Now, Bitim will join Adama Sanogo and Justin Lewis, filling Chicago’s two-way deals.

But who is Bitim? The 24-year-old Turkish player spent this past season playing for Bursaspor in Turkey. The team competed in the Turkish Basketball League and the EuroCup this past year. At 6-foot-6, Bitim plays the wing position and could provide the Bulls with a solid scoring punch, should he prove himself.

With Buraspor this past year, Bitim appeared in 50 games across all competitions, including 48 starts, and played 30.9 minutes per contest. He averaged 17.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.3 blocks and 1 steal per game while shooting 45% from the field and 36.6% from behind the 3-point line.

In 32 Turkish Basketball League games, Bitim finished ninth in scoring (17.7 points per game) and attempted the eighth-most 3s per game at 6.8 (and shot 39% on those attempts).

Bitim also played well at the EuroCup, earning All-EuroCup second team honors alongside J’Covan Brown, Tyrique Jones, and former NBA players Sam Dekker and Bruno Caboclo.

At 24 years old, Bitim has already established himself as a rising star overseas, and he’ll now test the waters in the NBA.

While he may not be able to crack the rotation for Chicago right away, the Bulls will be able to watch him develop in the G League in hopes of him eventually getting called up.
