ONE on Prime Video 1: Watch Zebaztian Kadestam floor Iuri Lapicus in 57 seconds with vicious uppercut

Check out this vicious knockout in the opening bout of ONE on Prime Video 1.

ONE Championship’s first event on Amazon Prime Video started off with a bang.

In the opening bout of ONE on Prime Video 1, Sweden’s [autotag]Zebaztian Kadestam[/autotag] met Iuri Lapicus in the first of five MMA bouts scheduled for the event at Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore.

Kadestam would not need long to add to his highlight reel of finishes under the ONE Championship banner.

A few moments after Lapicus secured a takedown and landed strikes on the mat, Kadestam got back to his feet and began looking for the opening to land something significant. At the 57-second mark, Kadestam found it when he landed a beautiful right uppercut that put Lapicus out cold.

Check out video of the finish below (via Twitter):

Kadestam makes in two first-round finishes in a row following a stoppage win over Valmir da Silva in February. The 10-fight veteran of ONE Championship improves to 6-4 with the promotion, with each of his wins coming by finish.

Lapicus is now winless in his last three outings, losing in the first round against Christian Lee, a no contest against Eddie Alvarez, and tonight’s result against Kadestam. Prior to his recent skid, Lapicus was undefeated in the first 13 fights of his pro career.

ONE on Prime Video 1 takes hit: Rodtang Jitmuangnon out of muay Thai grand prix bout due to illness

Rodtang Jitmuangnon is out of his flyweight muay Thai grand prix bout.

ONE Championship’s first event on Amazon Prime has taken a hit to the lineup.

[autotag]Rodtang Jitmuangnon[/autotag] has pulled out of his muay Thai flyweight grand prix semifinal bout due to illness. His bout against Savvas Michael has been scratched from the event which takes place at Singapore Indoor Stadium on Friday.

MMA Junkie confirmed the news with a ONE Championship official following an initial report from MMA Fighting.

ONE on Prime Video 1 will proceed with 9 total fights, consisting of four muay Thai bouts and five MMA fights. In the main event, Adriano Moraes faces Demetrious Johnson in a rematch for the ONE Championship flyweight title.

Rodtang faced Johnson earlier this year in a mixed rules bout that alternated rulesets between muay Thai and MMA each round. Johnson defeated Rodtang by submission in the second round.

In May, Rodtang returned to muay Thai competition as a part of the flyweight grand prix, defeating Jacob Smith by unanimous decision to advance to the semifinals against Michael. Unfortunately, that fight will not take place following Thursday’s weigh-ins when Rodtang failed to submit a sample for the mandatory hydration test.

With the removal, the ONE on Prime Video 1 lineup is as follows:

  • Adriano Moraes vs. Demetrious Johnson – for ONE Championship flyweight title
  • Nong-O Gaiyanghadao vs. Liam Harrison – for ONE Championship bantamweight title (Muay Thai)
  • Marcus Almeida vs. Kirill Grishenko
  • Amir Aliakbari vs. Mauro Cerilli
  • Superlek Kiatmoo9 vs. Walter Goncalves (Muay Thai)
  • Amir Naseri vs. Jonathan Haggerty (Muay Thai)
  • Diandra Martin vs. Amber Kitchen (Muay Thai)
  • Itsuki Hirata vs. Hequin Lin
  • Zebaztian Kadestam vs. Iuri Lapicus

Demetrious Johnson only got better from ONE Championship loss to Adriano Moraes, says Rich Franklin

Ahead of his One Championship rematch, Demetrious Johnson had to have learned from his Adriano Moraes loss, says Rich Franklin.

If [autotag]Demetrious Johnson[/autotag] didn’t learn from his mistakes, he wouldn’t be who many consider to be the greatest flyweight fighter of all time, says former UFC middleweight champion [autotag]Rich Franklin[/autotag].

Franklin, who currently serves as vice president of ONE Championship, recently weighed in on the upcoming title rematch between Johnson (23-4-1) and [autotag]Adrian Moraes[/autotag] (20-3). The first meeting saw Moraes become the first man to finish Johnson when he did so with a violent combination and ground-and-pound.

Their rematch headlines ONE on Prime Video 1, which takes place Friday, Aug. 26 at Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore and streams on Prime Video.

In the short term, a loss is never good. Luckily for him, Johnson has only done so four times in his career. In the long term, however, Franklin thinks for a fighter of the caliber of Johnson, the loss will likely lead to improvement.

“As a fighter ages, one thing that you gain is experience and knowledge as you get older,” Franklin told MMA Junkie Radio. “At this stage of Demetrious’ career, and I say this tongue and cheek because I know DJ, at this stage of his career if he hasn’t learned how to deal properly with a loss and utilize what useful information that you can from that loss and discard the rest and move on, then I don’t think he’d be in the position that he’s in having as many title defenses and the accolades and everything he’s accomplished in his career.

“You have to get to a point where you can take the loss and move on with something like that. I do believe he’s coming to come into this fight with a clean slate sort of speak and perform at a top level where he’s not afraid to pull the trigger, sort of speak.”

As he added to his estimation of an improved “Mighty Mouse,” Franklin also speculated the fight will have a similar vibe to what the first did, prior to the finish. Moraes can’t get overconfident and bask in the flashback familiarity of victory – or he’ll pay the price, added Franklin.

“The first round is going to feel like an extra round,” Franklin said. “Adriano, his body type and fighting style, is a difficult matchup for Demetrious. Both of these guys know what the other is capable of. Adriano, he obviously shocked the world last time. To walk into the circle with the kind of confidence and swagger that, ‘I’m going to repeat, or take control of this match,’ Demetrious is not the kind of guy you want to do that with. He’s a strategist. He’s going to come in with a new game plan, so I think there will be a feeling-out process for the first round.

“… I think his key to victory in this if he’s going to win the match is to play with ranges and keep Adriano guessing. Adriano is so tall and long with those arms with good striking. With that height disadvantage Demetrious has, he’s going to have to play with his ranges and get to the inside.

Johnson has competed once since the loss, in a special hybrid rules match against muay thai superstar Rodtang Jitmuangnon. The first and third rounds were scheduled as muay thai, and the second and fourth rounds were scheduled as MMA. Johnson submitted Jitmuangnon in Round 2 with a rear-naked choke. Meanwhile, Moraes has also only competed once since their first meeting. He successfully defended his title when he submitted Yuya Wakamatsu in March.

Marcus ‘Buchecha’ Almeida wants to be ONE champion ASAP

Brazilian jiu-jitsu ace Marcus Almeida is just 3-0 in MMA, but he’s looking to be fast-tracked to the top.

[autotag]Marcus Almeida[/autotag] is ready to get fast-tracked to a title.

Almeida (3-0), a multiple-time jiu-jitsu world champion and ADCC gold medalist, is just three fights into his professional MMA career. All three have been finishes, most recently tearing right through Simon Carson in June.

“Buchecha” meets Kirill Grishenko (5-1) on Friday at ONE on Prime Video 1, which takes place at Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore. The main card streams on Amazon Prime Video at 10 p.m. ET.

“Everything I do in my life, I want to put my 100 percent, so MMA is not different, so I’m training for that,” Almeida told MMA Junkie Radio. “Of course, I want to get to the top, I want to be the champion one day, but to be honest, I don’t want to wait that long. Years sounds like a lot of time, so I’m putting a lot of work to reach there before those years that you’re saying.”

[lawrence-related id=2575501,2574916]

All three of Almeida’s finishes have come in the first round. While he sees the value in going the distance for some experience, he has no intentions of going past the first against Grishenko.

“I see my game is getting a lot better,” Almeida said. “I’m feeling way more confident in the cage, so when the door closes, I’m not the kind of guy that wants to leave as soon as possible. So if I have to be there for three rounds, I’m ready to do it, but if I’m saying I want to fight three rounds, I’m lying. I want to finish as soon as possible if I have the opportunity, so if I get the job done in the first round, that is like mission accomplished for me.”

Video: Watch Adriano Moraes’ brutal KO of Demetrious Johnson ahead of rematch at ONE on Prime Video 1

Watch the first fight between Adriano Moraes and Demetrious Johnson ahead of the rematch.

[autotag]Demetrious Johnson[/autotag] has a chance this Friday to settle the score.

The former UFC flyweight champion returns to the cage in a highly-anticipated rematch against champion [autotag]Adriano Moraes[/autotag] in the main event of ONE on Prime Video 1 in Singapore.

[lawrence-related id=2574916,2574914]

The last time Johnson (23-4-1) faced Moraes (20-3) was back in April 2021. The Brazilian put away “Mighty Mouse” in dominant fashion, knocking him out with a devastating knee. It was the first, and only, defeat Johnson experienced since leaving the UFC in 2018.

Before they clash again, you can watch their first bout in the video above.

Demetrious Johnson says he isn’t close to retiring from MMA: ‘I feel great, and here I am still competing’

Ahead of his return at ONE on Prive Video 1, Demetrious Johnson said he feels he still has several years left in MMA.

[autotag]Demetrious Johnson[/autotag] doesn’t see retirement in his near future.

Johnson, the former UFC flyweight champion and now ONE Championship fighter, believes he’s got a few good years left in MMA. Johnson (23-4-1) is 36 and has been competing professionally for 15 years. Yet, despite being very deep into his fighting career, Johnson still feels good about his standing.

“I think three to four more years,” Johnson told MMA Junkie. “I’ll probably keep on competing, depending on how my body feels. And after that, I want to spend as much time with my family and my kids. I love being a father. I love being a husband. I love being at home. That’s one of the things I truly cherish.

“And I think as far as competition, I will focus on grappling just because you’re not taking brain trauma. … So I think I’ll focus more on grappling and go from there.”

Johnson returns to the cage Friday at ONE on Prime Video 1. He takes on champion Adriano Moraes in the headliner, a title-fight rematch in which he hopes to avenge his KO loss from last year.

[lawrence-related id=2568708,2570133]

Johnson said he’s getting close to the end of his current contract with ONE Championship. He’s open to testing free agency and maybe going elsewhere, but he believes he’ll likely end his career with ONE.

“Yeah, I think so,” Johnson said. “I’m 36 years old. I got a couple of fights left on my contract, and I’m happy over here, so I don’t see why not.

“Obviously, when I come to that bridge, and I have to cross it, obviously my mindset is going to be different. When I was 31 years old, and I thought I was going to stop at 35 just because I don’t know how my body is going to be like. But now that I’m 36, I feel great, and here I am still competing. So we’ll see what happens.”
