Peyton Manning attempting to recruit Bill Belichick to ‘Omaha Productions’

Peyton Manning is attempting to recruit Bill Belichick to Omaha Productions, presumably for a ManningCast-style show on ESPN.

Bill Belichick appears poised to take a break from coaching this year and former NFL quarterback Peyton Manning has a job offer for him.

Manning is attempting to recruit Belichick to Omaha Productions, his entertainment company, according to a report from The Athletic‘s Andrew Marchand. Belichick and Manning, of course, were rivals in the NFL, but they shared a mutual respect and they might now become teammates off the field.

Manning and his brother, Eli, have had great success with their “ManningCast” which provides an alternate broadcast of ESPN’s “Monday Night Football” for 10 games each season.

Marchand reports that Manning would likely broach the idea of teaming Belichick with Nick Saban for a “GOATCast” in 2024. Saban already has a relationship with ESPN from his work on “College GameDay.”

ESPN and Omaha Productions will have competition — executives for CBS and NBC have already met with Belichick, according to The Athletic. Both networks are seeking new analysts for their studio shows, but Marchand reported that Belichick is not interested in doing a weekly Sunday studio show.

That might make ESPN an intriguing option for Belichick, who previously worked with NFL Films on NFL Network’s “NFL 100 All-Time Team” series. Belichick is a big fan of NFL history — just like Manning — and it’s easy to imagine the coach and former quarterback creating a perfect show.

Belichick is expected to return to coaching at some point — perhaps in 2025 — so any agreement with Manning might have to be paused if the coach gets another opportunity in the NFL. In the meantime, though, Belichick has free time on his hands, and Manning wants to put him to work.

Eagles’ QB Jalen Hurts to join Peyton and Eli ‘Manning Cast’ for Monday Night Football

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts to join Peyton and Eli for the ‘Manning Cast’ on Monday Night Football

Jalen Hurts is the hottest thing smoking in the NFL, so it makes sense for the Eagles star to make an appearance on the week’s biggest show.

Peyton Manning’s Omaha Productions confirmed that Philadelphia’s MVP candidate at quarterback would be joining Peyton and Eli on the “Manning Cast” for Monday Night Football between the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers.

The Monday night simulcast on ESPN2 and ESPN+ features featuring Peyton and Eli Manning hosting a part variety show, part football broadcast, and all comedy.

Cam Newton: ‘I was hoping to get recruited by Oregon, but it never happened’

In Omaha Productions’ latest episode “Eli’s Places,” Cam Newton expressed his desire to play for Oregon because of the uniforms.

Oregon Duck fans have a complicated history with Cam Newton. Going all the way back to 2010, a Newton-led Auburn Tigers team was seemingly on a collision course with the Ducks.

Auburn went 13-0 with a win in the SEC Championship. Oregon went 12-0 and was by far the best team in the Pac-10. Both earned spots in the BCS National Championship Game. Both had dynamic players who were among the nations’ best — Newton won the Heisman Trophy, while Oregon’s LaMichael James finished 3rd.

The meeting between the two is where the complicated feelings begin. For starters, it was questioned whether or not Newton would be eligible to play in the BCS title game after some off-field controversy. Nevertheless, he played and played well. While the Tigers got a helpful call or two from officials late in the game (Michael Dyer was down), Auburn went on to kick a game-winning field goal and win the championship. The rest is history.

What if that history had been different, though? What if Newton never went to Auburn, and wasn’t there to lead them on the historic run? In a recent episode of Omaha Productions’ “Eli’s Places,” Newton sat down and talked about his college decision and college football uniforms in particular. It shouldn’t come as a shock to hear that Newton was a big fan of Oregon’s uniforms and desperately wanted to be a Duck before his college years.

“I considered a school just because of a uniform,” Newton said. “I was hoping to get recruited by Oregon, but it never happened.”

Cam Newton as a Duck? That seems hard to fathom for Oregon fans, mostly because of the understandable sports resentment that they have for No. 1. However, having Newton — the future No. 1 overall draft pick in 2011 — would have undoubtedly made Oregon better, and likely brought at least one championship to Eugene.

It’s an interesting story that never came to fruition, but one that is fun to think about.
