6 worst free-agent signings in Panthers franchise history

The Panthers have made a few costly blunders in their history on the free-agent market.

We’re getting closer and closer to the first round of free agency under the Dan Morgan and Dave Canales regime. But let’s hope they don’t make anything close to the mistakes you’re about to see.

Here are the six worst free-agent signings in Carolina Panthers franchise history:

Seahawks unlikely to use franchise tag in 2024 offseason

Today is the first day that NFL teams can designate players for franchise or transition tags.

Today is the first day that NFL teams can designate players for franchise or transition tags. Historically, the Seahawks have not done so often. Their most recent one was used on former defensive end Frank Clark back in 2019 and that was nine years after the previous tag on kicker Olindo Mare.

This year fans should expect more of the same, as there are no good candidates on the roster to get the tag. The only possibly-maybe-sort-of-but-probably-not option would be defensive lineman Leonard Williams, who should be the team’s top priority to re-sign this offseason.

If the two sides can’t work out a deal by the deadline then it might have been worth tagging Williams at the usual price for interior defensive linemen. However, because the Giants already used two franchise tags on Williams the price would be significantly higher than usual, totaling a $36 million cap hit in 2024.

That’s just too big of a price tag for any player who’s not a franchise quarterback. Re-signing Williams to a multi-year contract won’t be cheap, but it definitely won’t cost that much annually.

Jason Myers sets Seahawks record for most consecutive field goals made

Seattle kicker Jason Myers set the Seahawks’ franchise record for the most consecutive field goals made at 31 in Week 15 at Washington.

The Seattle Seahawks are in Washington Week 15 for their last 10:00 a.m. PT start of the regular season and were the first to put points on the board on Sunday.

As of this post, kicker Jason Myers has completed both of his field-goal attempts, first to tie, and then to set the Seahawks’ franchise record for most consecutive field goals made at 31.

With his first attempt, the successful 43-yard try in the first quarter, Myers tied the old record set by former Seattle kicker Olindo Mare. His second kick went for 40 yards and set the new record.

Courtesy of Myers, the Seahawks lead the Washington Football Team 6-0 with two minutes to go in the first half.
