Oklahoma State at Kansas odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Monday’s Oklahoma State at Kansas odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Oklahoma State Cowboys (12-12, 5-7 Big 12) and No. 6 Kansas Jayhawks (20-4, 9-2) tee it up Monday night in Lawrence, Kan. The showdown at Allen Fieldhouse is set for a 9 p.m. ET tip-off. Below, we look at the Oklahoma State vs. Kansas odds and lines, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Oklahoma State is back on the road after an 81-58 home win over West Virginia Saturday. The victory marked just the sixth for the Cowboys since Dec. 1. That stretch includes 11 losses, one of which was a 74-63 loss to these Jayhawks in Stillwater, Okla., Jan. 4.

The Jayhawks lost a 79-76 barnburner at then-No. 21 Texas last Monday, but they responded with a hard-fought 71-69 victory over Oklahoma Saturday. Kansas shot 53.1% to overcome nine 3-pointers by the Sooners. The Jayhawks are 12-1 at Allen Fieldhouse with their one loss coming against current No. 3 Kentucky.

Oklahoma State at Kansas odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Kansas 79, Oklahoma State 67

Money line

PASS.

Kansas is likely the right side here, but the Jayhawks minus the points are a better value.

Against the spread

The Cowboys are 1-6 ATS in their last seven games following a straight-up win; the home team has gone 7-2 ATS in the last nine meetings between these two programs.

OSU goes quick tempo to leverage turnovers and a solid ability to get to the line while hiding some inadequacies in rebounding and distance shooting. That pace did not work on even-faster Kansas the first time around. Even with a below-average shooting performance and only 12 attempts at the stripe, the Jayhawks controlled that one by three-to-four possessions just about every second of the final 10 minutes.

After a tight game at Allen Fieldhouse Saturday, look for the Jayhawks’ best against Oklahoma State. That best is worth a moderate play on KANSAS -10.5 (-115).

Over/Under

The Over is 5-1 in OSU’s last six overall and 5-2 in the last seven series meetings.

These are the fastest two teams in the Big 12. Mix in 3s and offensive boards on the home side and a decent number of trips to the line for the visitors.

TAKE THE OVER 143.5 (-107).

Oklahoma State at Kansas: Three things to know

  1. Monday’s tilt marks game No. 2 this season for the Cowboys and Jayhawks. OSU defeated Kanas, 75-70, in Stillwater, Okla., Jan. 12. That result continued a trend in this series with the home team going 6-1 against the spread in the last seven meetings.
  2. Kansas lost 91-79 to West Virginia Saturday and has dropped five of its last seven games. Perimeter defense was an issue against the Mountaineers, who drained 11 triples, and that’s part of a larger trend. Over the last 10 games dating back to Jan. 2, Jayhawks foes have culled together a strong 41.5% rate on 3-pointers.
  3. OSU G Cade Cunningham logged 18 points, 7 boards, and 3 assists in the Jan. 12 game against Kansas. The likely one-and-done NBA prospect scored 10 points over the final 13 minutes of a Cowboys double-overtime win over Texas Saturday. Cunningham is averaging 18.3 points per game and is a 41.3% shooter from beyond the arc.

Oklahoma State at Kansas: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Kansas 72, Oklahoma State 69

Money line (ML)

PASS: There is a solid lean on Oklahoma State to keep this game in one-possession territory. Cowboys +195 is a decent play but OSU plus the points is a better value.

Against the spread (ATS)

OSU is 5-1-1 ATS over its last seven road games. Kansas is 0-4 ATS in its last four home games against winning teams.

Oklahoma State will be tested at Allen Fieldhouse and especially so coming off an emotional extra-sessions victory over Texas. The Cowboys are still a likeable play here, as they have very real advantages in key areas of defense, transition and second-chance scoring, consistency and free-throw frequency.

BACK THE COWBOYS +5.5 (-110).

Over/Under (O/U)

LAY OFF the total. Strengths at both ends of the floor — and how OSU effectively leverages those advantages — make the game flow a cloudy picture.
