ESPN and University of Oklahoma announce multi-year agreement to launch ‘SoonerVision’ on ESPN+

The University of Oklahoma and ESPN have reached an agreement on a new partnership, which will launch “SoonerVision” for on the streaming platform ESPN+.

The college athletics landscape is forever changing and shifting in many ways from conference realignment to NIL to media rights.

The Oklahoma Sooners have been directly affected by all three in recent years and now they get to be a part of it once again.

After years with Bally Sports, the Sooners will enter a multi-year agreement with ESPN+ with an Oklahoma specific channel called “SoonerVision.”

The partnership with ESPN+ is the most expansive of its kind for a university athletics program. Oklahoma athletic director and Vice President Joe Castiglione in a release by the official athletics website says, “SoonerVision on ESPN+ builds upon our previous media successes by offering over 1,000 hours annually of live OU sports events and other programming to ESPN+’s growing subscriber base of more than 21.3 million. As a result, OU fans will now have an easily accessible year-round media home on all their screens.”

In many ways, it sets the stage for Oklahoma as it will make its way to the SEC in the coming years and become a part of the SEC Network also tied in a tight partnership with ESPN.

The infamous Oklahoma pay-per-view football game that’s become an annual occurrence will be no longer as that game likely slots into the “one regular season OU football game” category for those who carry an ESPN+ subscription.

The spring football game will also be accessible via ESPN+. The rest of Oklahoma’s football games will still be found on the ESPN family of networks or on Fox.

Oklahoma basketball will have 25 or more games found on ESPN+ along with other Olympic sports live games like track and field and more.

An ESPN+ subscription also includes access to professional sports like MLB, NHL, LaLiga, Bundesliga, and many other college sports competitions.

The deal allows the Sooner fans access to content from years past and also grants access to OU’s pro day, pregame shows, and a more immersive Sooner experience across the board.

Beginning in August, the content will be available on ESPN+ via the “SoonerVision” landing page, with live events beginning at the start of the fall athletics season.

Pricing for ESPN+ is $6.99 a month (or $69.99 per year) at ESPN.com, ESPNplus.com, or on the ESPN App (mobile and connected devices). It is also available as part of The Disney Bundle that gives subscribers access to Disney+, ESPN+ and Hulu for $13.99/month (Hulu w/ads) or $19.99/month (Hulu w/o ads). Subscribers to Hulu + Live TV also receive ESPN+ at no additional cost.

Former OU guard De’Vion Harmon dishes on playing the Sooners

Will Sooner fans circle the date when De’Vion Harmon returns to Norman?

Oklahoma fans know a thing or two about former point guard De’Vion Harmon, who announced his return to the Big 12 Conference on Thursday.

After spending a season in Eugene with the Oregon Ducks, Harmon chose to play for the Texas Tech Red Raiders in the 2022-23 season. He cited the culture as the main reason in a recent interview with Red Raider Sports. With his return to the conference, he will play against his former team, the Sooners. Harmon opened up about his time in Norman and what it would mean to play Oklahoma.

“I have actually thought about that,” Harmon said when asked about playing Oklahoma. “That game will definitely bring a lot of emotions and nerves. I don’t know how the fans are going to treat me when I go back to Norman, but it is going to be different. That game is going to be fun, and it will definitely be a game that is circled on my calendar just like every other game but that game will mean something — not saying it means more than the other games because every game matters but it will mean something because of the history with me playing in Oklahoma. I have nothing bad to say about Norman, so I am excited to go back and play against them.”

Harmon played 56 games over two seasons with Oklahoma. During his time with the Sooners, he averaged 9.8 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2 assists and 1.1 steals per game. This past year with Oregon, Harmon averaged 10.8 points, 2.6 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.3 steals in 35 games.

When the Sooners play the Red Raiders in Norman, it will be interesting to see how the Oklahoma faithful treat Harmon upon his return to the Lloyd Noble Center.

Sooners great Trae Young Leads Atlanta Hawks to NBA Play-In

Former Sooners point guard Trae Young leads the Atlanta Hawks into their play-in matchup against LaMelo Ball and the Charlotte Hornets.

Former Oklahoma Sooners point guard, Trae Young, is enjoying what should be an All-NBA season as the Atlanta Hawks go into the NBA Play-In tournament against LaMelo Ball and the Charlotte Hornets.

The 9-seed Hawks had a rough start to their season but rebounded in the second half to earn home court in the first leg of the play-in. If they beat Charlotte, they’ll go on the road to play the loser of the Brooklyn-Cleveland game. If they win that, they will be the 8-seed and have a date with the 1-seed Miami Heat.

Young has led an electric Atlanta offense with 28.4 points per game and 9.7 assists per game. During his one season at OU, Young averaged 27.4 points per game and 8.7 assists per game.

It should be noted that Trae Young’s max extension will begin next season and the sharpshooter will be under contract through the 2026-2027 season. Atlanta will need to be in a better position to win than the play-in tournament if they want to win rings with Young in the future.

I like the Hawks’ chances of getting out of at least the first leg of this play-in. Atlanta went 27-14 at home this year and I think their offense will be too much for a middle of the road team like Charlotte.

As for how they’ll fare in the second leg and beyond, it depends.

I’m not sure what to make of Cleveland. They’re a young team and they will have home court advantage if they meet Atlanta in the second leg of the play in.

Assuming they beat the Cavs, I don’t like their chances of beating Miami. Miami is just too good and too deep.

It’s not impossible for the Hawks to make a run. They’ve been the lower seed before and they’ve succeeded. As the 5 seed, the Hawks beat the 4-seed Knicks in five games and then the 1-seed Sixers in seven games.

The Hawks and Hornets will tip-off at 6 P.M. CST on ESPN on Wednesday.

Oklahoma vs Texas Tech Game Preview

Why Oklahoma Will Win

Yeah, Oklahoma is having a few issues on a three game losing streak.

Yeah, Texas Tech is playing well on a three game winning streak.

Both of those runs started right after OU whacked the Red Raiders by 15 in Norman.

The Sooners were fantastic from the field, did a great job on the move, and Texas Tech was totally miserable from three.

They did a great job on the free throw line, too, and they’ll have to do all of that again.

Only Kansas shoots better than OU in the Big 12, the three point defense is the real deal, and only Texas is stronger on the free throw line. If all of those elements can come together again, the Sooners could bust through this mini-slump.

So …

– Latest Polls AP | Coaches

Why Texas Tech Will Win

What’s Oklahoma’s problem lately?

It’s shooting great and it continues to be excellent on the free throw line, but the defense has gone bye-bye.

Oh, it’s still strong at guarding the three, but it allowed the last three teams on the slate to combine to hit close to 60% from the field.

What’s Texas Tech doing that’s so right lately?

It’s making up for the inconsistencies in a few spots by coming up with a ton of steals and transition points. The last three Red Raider opponents combined for 63 fouls and 44 turnovers.

Oklahoma should be good for about 20 would and at least 12 turnovers, but …

What’s Going To Happen

Texas Tech just can’t hit threes.

It can rebound, and the defense can rise up in key moments, but can it overcome the lack of threes if Oklahoma gets hot again from the outside?

No, but that’s not going to be a problem. Those 13 threes were the most OU made in the game wins a mid-December win over Arkansas. It’ll make its share of three pointers, but not enough to rise up over a great-shooting day from the Red Raiders inside.

Texas vs Oklahoma Game Preview

Why Texas Will Win

We did this a few weeks ago and it didn’t go well.

Oklahoma couldn’t hit a thing from three, Texas lived on the free throw line, and it was a 66-52 Longhorn win that was never all that close.

Texas might be coming off a rim-rocking from Baylor, but overall it’s still playing defense as well as any in America – even with Kansas and Baylor combining for 156 points over the last two games – and with a whole lot of good things happening against teams that need to hit from the outside.

Oklahoma needs to be on from three to win. it’s 12-0 when making 35% or more of its threes, and 2-11 when it doesn’t.

Texas allows teams to hit 31% from three. However …

– Latest Polls AP | Coaches

Why Oklahoma Will Win

Texas isn’t close to being the same team away from Austin.

Dominant at home, the Longhorns are 15-1 including that blowout win over Oklahoma. On the road they’re 3-6 and have a hard time from three.

Oklahoma is hardly a rock at home, but it plays defense from three, moves the ball around just fine, and it hits 48% from the field.

As long as the defense can clamp down on the Longhorns from the outside, and if the O can keep the turnovers and mistakes down a bit from its normal problems, it should be right in this for a full 40 minutes.

Top 25 Game Previews, Predictions

What’s Going To Happen

Texas is playing well, Oklahoma isn’t.

Yeah, the Sooners aren’t that bad from the field, but they have to be great from three and they have to prove they can get the offense going against a defense that clamps down hard.

The problem will be shows peek turnovers. They’ve slowed a tad lately on the mistakes, but Texas will force at least 15 turnovers for just enough transition and easy points to get out alive.

Oklahoma vs Kansas Game Preview

Why Oklahoma Will Win

Well that’s more like it, Oklahoma.

The Sooners were able to rock Texas Tech by hitting a ton from three and clamping down enough defensively to stop a bad losing run with a 70-55 win.

They were able to stay around with Kansas in a 67-64 loss a few weeks ago even though the threes weren’t falling, but the team was good on the offensive glass and didn’t get rocked overall on the boards.

Kansas managed to lose to Texas thanks to way too many fouls and an uncharacteristicaly bad day on the glass. Oklahoma can replicate that, but …

– Latest Polls AP | Coaches

Why Kansas Will Win

It took Oklahoma hitting 13 three pointers to get by Texas Tech. It’s not going to be that good from three again.

The shooting isn’t consistent and there are way, way, way too many turnovers. Kansas might not be amazing at forcing takeaways, but it comes up with enough, the scoring punch should be too much at home, and its three should drop.

The fast break points and a few well-timed threes should be enough to go along with the inside presence, and …

Top 25 Game Previews, Predictions

What’s Going To Happen

Oklahoma is just 1-5 in Big 12 play on the road and it’s not about to pull off another one in Lawrence.

Kansas isn’t above a clunker against a good defensive performance or a hot shooting team from three, but it’s able to survive teams that bomb away from the outside by just making a whole lot of shots on the other end – teams usually have to hit from three in comeback mode.

Oklahoma will have its moments, but it won’t be able to keep up in the last ten minutes.

Texas Tech vs Oklahoma Game Preview

Why Texas Tech Will Win

The defense continues to be a killer.

The double-overtime 94-91 shootout loss aside, the Red Raiders have stayed on brand, not allowing 70 points to anyone else since a loss to Providence on December 1st.

Everyone is struggling from three against this D, no one in the Big 12 is getting more rebounds, and the free throws are dropping. It’s a great combination and style that’s coming through in game after game.

Oklahoma doesn’t rebound well enough, it’s turning it over way too often, and …

– Latest Polls AP | Coaches

Why Oklahoma Will Win

The Sooners can play a little D, too.

They might not be able to clamp down like Texas Tech does, but the problems over a brutal second half of the season are more on the offensive side.

They’re not going to have any issues with keeping this game low scoring and about maximizing possessions.

Oklahoma can hit free throws, too. It’s great at slowing down the three, it’s second in the Big 12 in shooting percentage, and when it scores, it usually comes off the extra pass.

However …

Top 25 Game Previews, Predictions

What’s Going To Happen

Texas Tech is way too strong defensively.

Oklahoma wants to play that game, but the other side does it better. However, the Red Raiders are just 2-4 in true road games and 15-0 at home. The defense travels, but it wasn’t able to come up big enough in winnable games against Iowa State and Kansas State.

But Oklahoma is 1-7 in its last eight games. Texas Tech isn’t the team you want to face when on a slide.

Auburn vs Oklahoma Game Preview

Why Oklahoma Will Win

The Sooners might the having a whole slew of problems, but they can shoot.

They’re the best in the Big 12 from the field and among the best in the nation in field goal percentage, working for the right shot, being patient, and doing a great job of finding the open man.

This isn’t a high-octane offense that doesn’t do enough from the outside, but the defense clamps down well from the outside, it doesn’t allow games to get out to hand, and it should be able to grind this down to a stop.

Missouri was able to keep Auburn from taking off, and it battled in a 55-54 loss a few days ago. But …

NFL Mock Draft: First 1st round mock

Why Auburn Will Win

Auburn is phenomenal in the defensive interior. It blocks way too many shots for Oklahoma to get anything easy inside.

No one seems able to do enough from three against the Tiger D, and Oklahoma won’t come out and hit a ton from the outside.

The Tigers will have to get used to the Oklahoma style a bit, but if they’re able to go on an early run and rev up the game a bit, this should be over. Considering the turnover problem the Sooner offense has, Auburn should be off to the races.

AP college basketball top 25

What’s Going To Happen

Oklahoma might not be winning, but there are a few reasons.

Baylor, Texas, Kansas, and Baylor again.

It couldn’t get by against the TCU defense, and the style of play keeps both teams in the game, but it should be able to slow down and frustrate Auburn just enough to make this interesting.

However, Auburn can play a little D, too. Oklahoma won’t do enough on the offensive boards or on the inside to pull this off.
