Titans not among teams to attend Odell Beckham Jr. workout

The Titans were not one of the 12 teams to attend Odell Beckham Jr.’s free-agent workout.

Free-agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. held a workout on Friday for teams who may be interested in his services, but the Tennessee Titans were not one of the team to attend.

According to CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones, the teams in attendance were the New York Jets, Carolina Panthers, New York Giants, New England Patriots, Los Angeles Rams, Arizona Cardinals, San Francisco 49ers, Buffalo Bills, Kansas City Chiefs, Minnesota Vikings, Cleveland Browns and the Baltimore Ravens.

The Titans are in the market for multiple wide receivers this offseason, including a veteran, but their lack of interest in Beckham is understandable.

After all, the 30-year-old has suffered a pair of torn ACLs in the past few years. Adding to that, we’ve seen this story before of the Titans adding an aging, high-profile receiver, only for it to blow up in their face.

While signing Beckham would no doubt be an exciting addition, the potential negatives outweigh the positives and Titans are better off going in a different direction.

Taylor Lewan drops interesting nugget about Titans and Odell Beckham Jr.

On a recent episode of “Bussin’ With The Boys”, Taylor Lewan dropped an interesting nugget about the Titans and Odell Beckham Jr.

While it remains to be seen if the Tennessee Titans will make one ahead of the NFL trade deadline on Nov. 1, or at any point after that, this team is in desperate need of an impact addition at the wide receiver position, whether that be through free agency, trade, or both.

Not only is the team dealing with injuries to three of its wideouts in Treylon Burks, Kyle Philips and Racey McMath, all of whom are on injured reserve, but the group as a whole simply isn’t effective enough even when at full strength, with separation being a major issue.

The biggest name available out there at the position is wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., who remains a free agent as he continues to work his way back from a torn ACL suffered last season.

There has been zero evidence of any mutual interest between the two parties, but on a recent episode of “Bussin’ With The Boys”, Titans left tackle Taylor Lewan said he’s hearing that Beckham is indeed interested in coming to Nashville and playing for the Titans.

“Have you heard? Odell might go to the Titans,” Lewan told his co-host, Will Compton. “I’ve heard, people have told me. A lot of people are talking. And the word on the street is Odell wants to be in Nashville… Someone told me; not me specifically, someone went to [general manager] Jon [Robinson] and asked Jon and Jon said he’d love to have Odell in Nashville. I’m just saying what people have told me.”

This isn’t the first we’ve heard about the potential for Beckham to go to the Titans. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported earlier this month that the Titans were a “wild-card team to watch” with the star wideout.

Say what you want about the issues Beckham has had in the past, he was a model citizen with the Los Angeles Rams in 2021 and would be a much-needed addition to this offense.

Granted, there is concern about Beckham’s viability as a whole after having suffered a pair of torn ACLs in the same knee during his football career, but from all accounts he’s expected to make a full recovery.

The downside is that recovery could take until mid-December, per ESPN’s Dan Graziano, with a mid-November return being the earliest timeline.

If it’s the latter, that places Beckham’s return around Week 10 or 11. If it’s the former, he would return sometime around Week 14 or 15. Not ideal because Tennessee needs an impact move now, but beggars can’t be choosers.

Adding to that, the Titans are in a decent position to wait it out for Beckham. Tennessee owns the top spot in the AFC South and has the head-to-head tie-breaker over the Colts, a team whose quarterback situation may have just gone from bad to worse.

All that said, do not get your hopes up in the slightest about this.

Beckham will have several suitors, and some of them are in a better position to win a Super Bowl than Tennessee is, something that will certainly factor into his decision.

Adding to that, the Titans are strapped for cash, with the team having just $1.5 million to spend, per Over the Cap. General manager Jon Robinson would have to get creative if he wants to get Beckham to Nashville.

In case you were wondering if any team could get Beckham on the cheap after another major injury, think again. According to Beckham, the Rams basically tried that and he didn’t bite.

Whatever the case may be, if the opportunity to bring Beckham aboard is a realistic option for Tennessee, it’s one the team has to at least consider if it’s serious about competing for more than just a division title in 2022.

PFF suggests Titans sign Odell Beckham Jr. before training camp

PFF believes signing Odell Beckham Jr. is the one move the Titans should make before training camp.

The Tennessee Titans could use another veteran wide receiver ahead of the 2022 season, but should the team consider signing Odell Beckham Jr.?

According to Pro Football Focus’ Doug Kyed, they should. Kyed names Beckham the one signing Tennessee should make before training camp.

The AFC South isn’t exactly chock full of wide receivers right now. The Titans ranked 26th in our wide receiver corps rankings, and if the Titans want to keep their hold on the division, it would behoove them to add another playmaker for quarterback Ryan Tannehill to join Robert Woods (coming off a torn ACL) and rookie Treylon Burks.

While Beckham would no doubt be an intriguing option, as he’d provide an outside receiver who can stretch the field, a recent report suggests that he might not be ready to go until October or November.

With so many question marks at the position, Beckham would be just another added to the heap, and the Titans need help sooner than the LSU product can provide.

Adding to that, his penchant for becoming disgruntled and a distraction is also a concern, although he was a model teammate with the Los Angeles  Rams despite not seeing a ton of production.

Signing Beckham would no doubt be a big splash and a move that could end up paying off big time, but if nothing else, the Titans simply can’t afford to wait for the help.

Best available WRs Titans can still target in free agency

At this late stage in free agency, the Titans’ options at wide receiver are limited.

The Tennessee Titans entered the 2022 offseason with a need at the wide receiver position, a need that became more dire once the team decided to release veteran wideout Julio Jones.

Tennessee’s solution for that issue was the trade for Robert Woods, who was set to serve as the team’s No. 2 behind A.J. Brown, which was a positive development despite Woods coming off a torn ACL.

From there, it was expected that the Titans would add a young receiver in the 2022 NFL draft; however, things quickly went to DEFCON 1 after the Titans traded Brown.

The Titans did add a pair of receivers in the draft in Treylon Burks and Kyle Philips, but as is the case with any rookie wide receiver, neither is guaranteed to provide the boost Tennessee needs in their first seasons.

As a result of the question marks with those players, and with the group as a whole, it is almost a foregone conclusion the team will add another veteran option at some point before the start of the season.

With that in mind, here’s a look at the top wide receivers still available in free agency. For the record, we do feel Julio is still one of the best options out there, but he isn’t included here because there’s zero chance for a reunion.
