Prediction and betting odds for Commanders vs. Panthers in Week 7

Do the Commanders begin a new winning streak on Sunday?

The Washington Commanders (4-2) look to get back to winning on Sunday when they host the Carolina Panthers (1-5) from Northwest Stadium. The Commanders’ four-game winning streak was snapped last week in Baltimore. Despite a valiant effort, Washington lost 30-23 to arguably the NFL’s top team.

The Commanders opened as 7.5-point favorites earlier in the week. It’s rare for Washington to be favored so heavily, but times have changed with rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels. Before Sunday’s kickoff, the line has increased to 9.5 points in favor of Washington, according to BetMGM.

The recent changes are likely related to Carolina’s injury situation, as the Panthers will be without several players against the Commanders.

So, who wins? It’s time for our staff predictions.

Bryan Manning

It sounds like Brian Robinson Jr. will play, but it’s not as if the Commanders will need him. Injuries or not, Washington was a heavy favorite. The Commanders have the better team and quarterback. I would expect a fired-up Washington squad wanting to avenge last week’s loss. It’s also a special day for the Commanders, as the franchise is retiring Darrell Green’s No. 28.

Commanders 35, Panthers 10

Ivan Lambert

The Panthers are 1-5, and after only six games, have already been outscored by 100 points, and the closest to them (Jaguars) are a -65. The Commanders (4-2) on paper are a heavy favorite (-9.5). The Washington offense should be able to move the ball and score plenty of points.

Unfortunately, the Commanders’ defense could also be susceptible to giving up points themselves because since Andy Dalton replaced Bryce Young, Carolina moves the ball much better.

This week, we will find out about the Commanders’ maturity. Will they be focused and not look ahead to next week when they face the 4-2 Bears?

Commanders 30, Panthers 20

Serena Burks

The Commanders may have lost last week, but it was to a much more talented Baltimore Ravens team. Their defense had no answer for Derrick Henry or Lamar Jackson, and their rushing offense couldn’t do much against the Ravens’ stout defense.

But this week will be different. The Panthers already benched Bryce Young in favor of Andy Dalton; but that hasn’t been enough to see them win games. The Commanders get the win at home.

Commanders 38, Panthers 13

Shriners Children’s Open 2024 odds, course history and picks to win

The PGA Tour is back in Sin City.

The PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup Fall rolls on in Las Vegas for the 2024 Shriners Children’s Open at TPC Summerlin. Back-to-back defending champion Tom Kim — the Korean hasn’t played a Tour event since the FedEx St. Jude Championship in August — highlights the field as he looks for a turkey.

Other players teeing it up on Thursday include Rickie Fowler, Taylor Pendrith, Adam Hadwin, Maverick McNealy, Keith Mitchell and Beau Hossler. Stephan Jaeger, the runner-up at last week’s Black Desert Championship in Utah, is also in the field and looking for his second win of the year.

The winner on Sunday afternoon will earn $1.26 million of the $7 million purse and 500 FedEx Cup points.

Shriners Children’s Open picks to win

Beau Hossler (28/1)

Analysis: Hossler has played some great golf over the last two weeks, losing in a playoff at the Sanderson Farms Championship and tying for 11th at the Black Desert Championship. He’s returning to a venue where he’s seen some success with two top-10 finishes in six starts, including a T-7 performance last season.

It’s time Beau gets win No. 1.

Adam Hadwin (40/1)

Analysis: Hadwin hasn’t played in a Tour event since the BMW Championship in August, but thanks to his course history, this is a spot we have to take the Canadian. Over the last five years, Hadwin has finished inside the top 10 four times including a solo runner-up to Kim in 2023.

Matti Schmid (45/1)

Matti Schmid of Germany walks on the ninth green during the second round of the Black Desert Championship 2024 at Black Desert Resort on October 11, 2024, in St George, Utah. (Photo by Christian Petersen/Getty Images)

Analysis: Schmid has gotten better and better with every start this fall. He opened with a T-58 showing at the Procore Championship and followed it up with a T-16 finish at the Sanderson Farms Championship. Finally, at last week’s Black Desert, Schmid grabbed solo fifth. In his lone start at the Shriners, Schmid tied for 26th last year.

Steelers vs Raiders: How to watch, listen and stream

The Steelers take on the Raiders in Las Vegas this week.

The Pittsburgh Steelers (3-2) head out west to square off against the Las Vegas Raiders (2-3) this week with both teams hoping to get back on track after Week Five losses.

Last week, the Steelers failed to hold off the Dallas Cowboys late and lost in the game’s final plays. This week the Raiders are turning to Aidan O’Connell at quarterback in hopes of sparking the offense and the Steelers are sticking with Justin Fields at quarterback for his sixth start of the season.

Black Desert Championship 2024 odds and picks to win

Here are our picks to win in Utah.

This week, the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup Fall continues in Ivins, Utah, at the 2024 Black Desert Championship at Black Desert Resort.

The rank-and-file field set to take on this Tom Weiskopf design includes Keith Mitchell, Seamus Power, Beau Hossler, Lucas Glover, Harris English and Daniel Berger. Mitchell, the betting favorite at 16/1 (+1600), led last week’s Sanderson Farms Championship through 54 holes but eventually tied for third.

This course is brand new to the Tour, so compiling a betting card will be a bit trickier than normal. We’ll have to focus on recent form and a few other key factors.

This week’s winner will head home with $1.35 million of the $7.5 million purse.

Black Desert Championship picks to win

Patrick Fishburn (30/1)

Patrick Fishburn of Ogden, Utah, tees off at the 1st hole during the Sanderson Farms Championship at the Country Club of Jackson in Jackson, Miss., on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2024.

Analysis: Fishburn will feel right at home this week because, well, he will be. Fishburn was born in Ogden, Utah, and graduated from Brigham Young University (BYU).

Before tying for 48th at the Sanderson Farms last week, Fishburn finished solo third at the Procore Championship to open the fall. He’s 16th in total driving on Tour and is coming off a week where he gained strokes with his tee-to-green game.

Lucas Glover (40/1)

Lucas Glover of Jupiter, Fla., watches his ball fly toward the 1st green during the Sanderson Farms Championship at the Country Club of Jackson in Jackson, Miss., on Sunday, Oct. 6, 2024.

Analysis: Glover has played some great golf across two FedEx Cup Fall starts. At the Procore Championship, Glover tied for 13th, and at last week’s Sanderson Farms, the 44-year-old grabbed a share of third.

Since there’s no course history to rely on, I’m focusing on tee-to-green performance. Last week at The Country Club of Jackson, Glover was eighth in the field in Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green.

Michael Thorbjornsen (40/1)

Michael Thorbjornsen of Wellesley, Mass., watches his ball shoot down the 1st fairway during the Sanderson Farms Championship at the Country Club of Jackson in Jackson, Miss., on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2024. (Photo: Lauren Witte/Clarion Ledger)

Analysis: As a New Englander, it feels right to put Thorbjornsen on the card — he’s from Wellesley, Massachusetts.

Thorbjornsen is coming off a T-8 performance at the Sanderson Farms where he ranked 33rd in SG: Tee-to-Green. Black Desert Resort features bentgrass greens and Thorbjornsen should love that as many New England courses feature the very same.

What channel is Saints vs. Chiefs on today? Time, TV streaming info to watch Week 5 game

It’s Saints vs. Chiefs in Week 5 of the 2024 NFL season. Here’s how to watch, including time, channel, TV schedule and streaming info.

The New Orleans Saints have their first game versus an AFC opponent, the Kansas City Chiefs. The Saints defense will walk in to Kansas City with eyes squarely on Travis Kelce. Patrick Mahomes’ favorite weapon for years now feels like the only true receiving threat due to the injury to Rashee Rice.

It was just two weeks ago that Philadelphia Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert had a career day against the Saints. If they can limit Kelce, that should lead to the Saints keeping the game low scoring.

The Saints offense had a bounce-back performance last week. It didn’t get the job done, but Alvin Kamara had more room to run. Chris Olave extends his streak of 80-plus receiving yard games to three games in a row.

Here’s how to watch the Saints game, including time, TV schedule and streaming information:

Saints vs. Chiefs predictions, picks, odds

Saints 31, Chiefs 26: The Kansas City Chiefs don’t win big. They’re 4-0 and have won every game by one score. That doesn’t bode well for the Saints if the game comes down to the final minutes. The Saints haven’t been the most reliable team in late game situations. The Saints offense looked better a week ago and my bold prediction is they’ll put up 30 points for the first time since Week 2. The Chiefs haven’t allowed 30 points all year. Chiefs 26 Saints 31

Alfred Dunhill Links Championship 2024 odds, Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm favorites to win

One of the best events of the year is here.

While the PGA Tour is in Jackson, Mississippi, for the Sanderson Farms Championship, plenty of the best players in the world are in Scotland for the 2024 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. The DP World Tour event takes place over three of the most iconic venues in golf: The Old Course at St. Andrews, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns.

There are several LIV Golf stars in the field, including Jon Rahm, Brooks Koepka and Tyrrell Hatton. They’ll be joined by Rory McIlroy, Tommy Fleetwood, Shane Lowry, Robert MacIntyre and BMW PGA Championship winner Billy Horschel.

On top of the game’s best players coming together across the pond, LIV Golf’s Yasir Al-Rumayyan, PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan and DP World Tour Chief Executive Officer Guy Kinnings are all expected to be at the event.

Sanderson Farms Championship 2024 odds, course history and picks to win

The PGA Tour returns to action in Mississippi.

The Presidents Cup is now in the rearview mirror, and it’s time for the PGA Tour to head to Jackson, Mississippi, for the 2024 Sanderson Farms Championship.

International Team member Mackenzie Hughes — the Canadian went 1-3-0 at the biennial bash — is one of the betting favorites at The Country Club of Jackson, sitting at +2200 (22/1). Keith Mitchell is +2000 to win after his 12th-place finish at the Procore Championship last month. He has missed the cut in three straight appearances at the Sanderson Farms.

Other names in the field include Rickie Fowler, Nick Dunlap, Maverick McNealy, Harris English and Matt Kuchar.

Defending champion Luke List has eight missed cuts over his last nine Tour starts.

Picks to win the Sanderson Farm Championship

Adam Svennson (35/1)

2024 Rocket Mortgage Classic
Adam Svensson of Canada plays a shot from the fourth tee during a practice round prior to the Rocket Mortgage Classic at Detroit Golf Club on June 26, 2024 in Detroit, Michigan. (Photo by Raj Mehta/Getty Images)

Analysis: Svensson finished the 2024 regular season with a T-7 finish at the Wyndham Championship and tied for 13th at the Procore Championship in September to open the FedEx Cup Fall.

At last year’s Sanderson Farms, Svensson tied for 16th.

Stephan Jaeger (35/1)

Stephan Jaeger watches his shot from the 17th tee during the third round of the RBC Heritage golf tournament. Mandatory Credit: Aaron Doster-USA TODAY Sports

Analysis: Jaeger captured his first career Tour win earlier this season at the Texas Children’s Houston Open, besting world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler by a shot. The German has had some success at The CC of Jackson over the last three years, finishing T-25 (2023), T-30 (2022) and T-26 (2021).

His elite distance off the tee — 27th in driving distance (308.8) — will come in handy around the John Fought design.

Henrik Norlander (+6000)

Henrik Norlander hits his tee shot on the ninth hole during the first round of the RBC Canadian Open golf tournament. Mandatory Credit: Dan Hamilton-USA TODAY Sports

Analysis: Norlander has loved himself some CC of Jackson. He lost in a playoff last year, tied for 24th in 2022 and finished T-4 in 2021 and 2020. So, getting him at 60/1 is a steal.

In early September, Norlander tied for eighth at the DP World Tour’s European Masters. And despite a T-61 finish at the Procore Championship, Norlander played well. A 6-over final round sent him tumbling down the leaderboard.

Packers open as 2.5-point favorite against Vikings in Week 4

The betting line for Packers-Vikings in Week 4 is -2.5 Packers, suggesting sportsbooks believe Jordan Love will return on Sunday.

The Green Bay Packers opened as a 2.5-point favorite against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 4, according to odds from BetMGM.

The line suggests that sportsbooks believe Jordan Love will return from a two-game absence and start against the unbeaten Vikings at Lambeau Field on Sunday.

The over/under is 43.5 points, which also suggests Love will return. The over/under for Packers-Titans last week was 37.

Love practiced in a limited capacity all last week but was inactive for Sunday’s win over the Titans. He will be over three weeks post-injury by kickoff on Sunday. Malik Willis started each of the last two weeks, including a dominant 30-14 win in Tennessee last Sunday.

Unless the line moves, this week will be the first time the Packers are betting favorites this season. They were 2-point underdogs in Week 1 (at PHI), 2.5-point underdogs in Week 2 (vs. IND) and 3.0-point underdogs in Week 3 (at TEN). Matt LaFleur’s team has won back-to-back games as underdogs with Willis under center.

The Vikings have also won as underdogs each of the last two weeks. They closed as 4-point underdogs against the 49ers and 1.5-point underdogs against the Texans.

One betting note: The under has hit on all three of the Vikings wins this season.

More information on Love’s playing status might not be known until later in the week. The Packers will release an initial injury report on Wednesday and a final injury report — with status designations — on Friday. It’s possible Love will be limited all week and questionable to play come Friday.

Presidents Cup 2024 odds and picks for Royal Montreal Golf Club

Here are a few picks for the week at Royal Montreal.

The 2024 Presidents Cup gets underway Thursday with a fourball session scheduled for 11:35 a.m. ET at Royal Montreal Golf Club in Quebec, Canada. Jim Furyk will lead Team USA, while Canadian Mike Weir is set to captain the Internationals in his home country.

Some of the big names on the American side include world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele and Collin Morikawa. For the Internationals, they’ll lean on veterans Adam Scott, Jason Day and Hideki Matsuyama while boasting young stars Tom Kim and Min Woo Lee.

Team USA leads the all-time series at 12-1-1 and hopes to once again raise the Cup coming Sunday afternoon.

Presidents Cup picks

2022 Presidents Cup
Team USA golfer Sam Burns celebrates winning the 17th hole during the four-ball match play of the Presidents Cup golf tournament at Quail Hollow Club. Mandatory Credit: Peter Casey-USA TODAY Sports

Pick: Sam Burns, top Team USA scorer (+750), top captain’s pick (+210)

Take: Let’s start the card with some value. Burns didn’t win a match two years ago at Quail Hollow, going 0-3-2. However, I think it’s time Burns gets some payback.

He enters the Presidents Cup in fantastic form. Over his last four starts, he’s finished T-12 (3M Open), T-5 (FedEx St. Jude Championship), T-2 (BMW Championship) and T-12 Tour Championship.

In these match-play competitions, it’s all about making putts. Burns ranked 15th in Strokes Gained: Putting on the PGA Tour this season.

Pick: Tom Kim, top International point scorer (+700)

Take: Some players are born for these team competitions, and I think Tom Kim is one of those guys. The show he put on at Quail Hollow two years ago was his “Hello, world” moment and I think he keeps it going at Royal Montreal.

When his putter gets hot, he can pour them in from all over the place and his tee-to-green game is consistently a strength.

2024 Procore Championship
Sahith Theegala of the United States hits his tee shot on the fourth hole during the third round of the Procore Championship 2024 at Silverado Resort on September 14, 2024 in Napa, California. (Photo by Eakin Howard/Getty Images)

Pick: Sahith Thegala, top USA rookie (+250)

Take: Like Kim, I think Theegala has the personality to thrive in this team environment. Plus, he’s coming off a stellar performance at the Tour Championship (third) and most recently tied for seventh at the Procore Championship.

Steelers vs Chargers: Prediction, picks, odds

The Steelers has its work cut out for themselves against the Chargers defense.

This week the Pittsburgh Steelers and Los Angeles Chargers square off in the battle of unbeatens in Pittsburgh. It is a showdown of the two best defenses in the NFL and two powerful rushing attacks square off. If you are a fan of classic, old-school football, this is a game you don’t want to miss.

The Steelers vs Broncos game starts at 1:00 ET and can be seen on CBS.

Steelers vs Chargers game odds:

All NFL Odds via BetMGM:

  • Point spread: -2.5
  • Money line: +120/-145
  • Over-under: 35/ -110

Steelers vs Chargers prediction

If Chargers’ starting quarterback Justin Herbert was 100 percent, this would be a much simpler choice. But Herbert’s ankle injury balances the scales some for Pittsburgh at quarterback. It could come down to who can run the football better that pull off the win in a huge defensive showdown.

Prediction: Steelers 20, Chargers 24
