Former Notre Dame midfielder makes U.S. Olympic women’s soccer team

Congrats, Korbin!

[autotag]Korbin Albert[/autotag] was too good for Notre Dame. Like, she literally was too good. She left after her sophomore season in 2022 after signing a professional contract with Paris Saint-Germain. Now, she’s going to be representing her country in the Olympics.

Albert was one of 18 players named to coach Emma Hayes’ U.S. Olympic roster and one of five midfielders. Having only joined the national team earlier this year, she already has won championships in the CONCACAF Gold Cup and SheBelieves Cup. Now, she’ll have a chance to add an Olympic gold medal to her trophy case.

Albert’s short time with the Irish was memorable. She was named the ACC Midfielder of the Year, a First Team All-American twice, an all-conference selection twice and a Hermann Trophy finalist. Talk about a fantastic addition to the legacy Notre Dame’s women’s soccer program has created.

Best of luck to Albert and her Olympic teammates in Paris.

Second incoming Notre Dame freshman named best player in state

Lighting strikes twice for the Irish.

Notre Dame’s women’s soccer team has been a powerhouse for most of its history. That naturally is going to lead to some quality talent successfully being recruited to the program. Among that talent is incoming freshman [autotag]Izzy Engle[/autotag], and she’s bringing some hardware with her.

Engle has been named the Gatorade Minnesota Girls Soccer Player of the Year. She joins a club also occupied by fellow incoming freshman [autotag]Riley DeMartino[/autotag], who won this year’s award for Maryland.

Engle, the third winner of this award from Edina, is coming off an undefeated season and state championship, which she won by scoring both goals in the title game. She scored 41 goals and 14 assists this past season and was named the state’s Ms. Soccer winner in her class.

To have two Gatorade Girls Soccer Players of the Year come in the same class is nothing short of remarkable for the Irish. Anything less than another NCAA Tournament bid will be unacceptable, and they’ll continue to pursue their four national championship and first since 2010.

Notre Dame women’s soccer freshman Riley DeMartino wins prestigious award

Congrats Riley!

It’s great to see when Notre Dame athletics brings in quality people, students and athletes.

That is happening once again, this time for the Irish women’s soccer team. Freshman [autotag]Riley DeMartino[/autotag], a Maryland native, was named her home state’s Gatorade Girl’s Soccer Player of the Year.

As a wing and midfielder, DeMartino helped Walt Whitman High win back-to-back-to-back 4A Maryland state championships. During this past season she scored 13 goals and assisted on 7 others. A broken collar bone prevented DeMartino from helping her team win during her junior season, but that didn’t deter her from returning for her final year and absolutely dominating.

Congrats Riley, we hope your Irish career is as successful as your’s was in high school.
