Notre Dame Week 11 highlight — the backups are getting it done

Notre Dame’s Steve Angeli is in on the scoring act.

It’s officially backup time for No. 10 Notre Dame as it faces the Florida State Seminoles.

This is a good thing, since the Fighting Irish are now leading 45-3 late in the game.

Backup quarterback [autotag]Steve Angeli[/autotag] tossed a 7-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver [autotag]Deion Colzie[/autotag] to end an 8-play, 57-yard drive that burned 4:20 off the clock.

Notre Dame is looking not just to beat Florida State, but it to make it into a statement win in order to impress the College Football Playoff committee, and the Fighting Irish are well on their way.

The struggling Seminoles are about to drop to 1-9.

Notre Dame Week 11 highlight — Jeremiyah Love gets in on the act

Notre Dame’s Jeremiyah Love keeps his TD streak alive.

(This story was updated to correct a misspelling/typo.)

Despite No. 10 Notre Dame blowing out the Florida State Seminoles tonight, Fighting Irish running back [autotag]Jeremiyah Love[/autotag] has been relatively quiet.

Sure, his fellow running back [autotag]Jadarian Price[/autotag] has a rushing touchdown and quarterback [autotag]Riley Leonard[/autotag] has two. Love had under 10 carries when took the ball in for a rushing touchdown in his ninth consecutive game.

The 1-yard touchdown run followed a 26-yard catch by [autotag]Jaden Greathouse[/autotag] and ended a 7-play, 65-yard drive that took 3:51 off the clock.

Notre Dame leads the Seminoles 38-3 as it looks for a statement win.

Notre Dame Week 11 highlight — Riley Leonard runs for another score

Riley Leonard does it again — again. He continues to have games with multiple rushing touchdowns.

It’s starting to sound like a broken record, and it challenges our headline-writing ability/creativity, but once again quarterback [autotag]Riley Leonard[/autotag] has a rushing touchdown for the No. 10 Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

That’s his second in tonight’s game against the Florida State Seminoles and 13 on the season by this author’s count.

Leonard’s 6-yard scamper caps off a 6-play, 38-yard drive that took 2:55 off the clock. It followed a [autotag]Jordan Clark[/autotag] interception.

Leonard had a 34-yard touchdown run to finish the Fighting Irish’s opening drive.

Notre Dame now leads the 1-8 Seminoles 28-3 late in the third quarter.

Notre Dame Week 11 highlight — Jordan Clark takes it away

Notre Dame gets the ball back with enthusiasm.

No. 10 has made a statement to start the second half against Florida State.

Nickel corner [autotag]Jordan Clark[/autotag] picked off a [autotag]Brock Glenn[/autotag] as the Seminoles faced 3rd-down-and-17 at their own 36.

The pick set the Irish up with a short field with 12:38 remaining in the third quarter.

Notre Dame is looking to keep the Seminoles from getting back in the game, as the Fighting Irish lead 21-3 and are trying to pull away from the upset-minded Seminoles.

Florida State has talent but is jut 1-8. The Irish have struggled a little early, but are now looking to break things open.

Notre Dame Week 11 highlight — Jadarian Price toes it in

Notre Dame running back Jadarian Price side-stepped his way into the end zone.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish running back [autotag]Jadarian Price[/autotag] used some fancy footwork to avoid being pushed out of bounds as he completed a 65-yard touchdown run against the Florida State Seminoles.

Price initially appeared to have stepped out of bounds — and the play was blown dead around the Florida State 5-yard line — but replay review showed that Price managed to keep his foot from touching the sideline. The sideline shuffle was ruled a touchdown by the officials.

No. 10 Notre Dame leads 14-3 with 14:35 remaining in the first half.

Price’s run might help a Notre Dame offense that has struggled to get both the passing and running game untracked. The opening drive was effective but Notre Dame has struggled to move the ball since then.

The touchdown capped off a 3-play, 84-yard drive that took 1:05 off the clock.

Notre Dame is hoping to put a struggling 1-8 Florida State team away early to avoid any chance of being upset at home.

Notre Dame Week 8 highlight: Adon Shuler takes it to the house

Notre Dame’s Adon Shuler puts a stamp on it against Georgia Tech

Not to be outdone by teammate Xavier Watts, Notre Dame Fighting Irish safety Adon Shuler has an interception against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

In fact, Shuler did Watts one better by returning the errant pass from Yellow Jackets’ quarterback Zach Pyron 36 yards to the end zone for a pick-six.

The touchdown put an exclamation point on the Fighting Irish’s win over the Yellow Jackets. As it stands after the pick, the score is 31-7 late in the fourth quarter.

Notre Dame had just missed a field goal as it looked to put Georgia Tech away. The pick-six seems like a nice consolation prize.

Notre Dame Week 8 highlight: Fake field-goal run earns first down, seals win against Georgia Tech

Notre Dame runs a fake field goal to keep the ball and seal the deal against Georgia Tech

With the Notre Dame Fighting Irish up 24-7 over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets with 4:16 to go in the fourth quarter, it seemed inevitable that the Irish would attempt a field goal when their drive stalled out.

Instead, they ran a fake field goal with Chris Salerno getting just enough yardage on the ground to earn a first down and keep the drive alive.

It’s clear that the Irish were looking to keep the ball and burn clock as opposed to taking the points and giving the ball back to Georgia Tech. Perhaps Notre Dame is also looking to run up the score a bit to make a statement as it fights to earn a playoff spot.

Notre Dame Week 8 highlight: Fake punt keeps key drive alive against Georgia Tech

Notre Dame gets a big fake-punt run from Jeremiyah Love.

Fake punts are almost always a risky proposition, but the Notre Dame Fighting Irish pulled one off against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. The successful fake kept an important late-game drive alive for the Fighting Irish.

It’s officially listed as a pass from linebacker Tommy Powlus to running back Jeremiyah Love for a loss of 8 yards and a first down — perhaps the online live score needs some tweaking. Either way, Love did carry the ball for a first down on a reverse.

Unfortunately the Irish were unable to turn the special-teams trickery into a game-sealing touchdown, but a made 42-yard field goal by backup kicker Zac Yoakam at least made it a three-score game.

Notre Dame Week 8 highlight: Xavier Watts interception kills Georgia Tech drive

Xavier Watts with a huge pick for Notre Dame.

The contest in Atlanta between the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets hasn’t exactly been a back-and-forth shootout, but momentum has mattered. Just ask Notre Dame safety Xavier Watts.

It looked like Notre Dame had the momentum it needed to close out the ballgame with a 21-7 lead after defensive lineman Bryce Young blocked a field goal. But the Yellow Jackets responded by stopping Notre Dame quarterback Riley Leonard from running for a first down on fourth-and-5.

On the second play of the ensuing drive, Yellow Jackets QB Zach Pyron’s pass was picked off by Watts.

Notre Dame Week 8 highlight: Blocked field goal keeps Georgia Tech off the board

Kick block by Bryce Young looms huge for Notre Dame against Georgia Tech.

It looked like the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets were getting some momentum back against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

Georgia Tech had forced a Notre Dame punt and then poor tackling by the Irish led to a 60-yard pass from Zach Pyron to Abdul Janneh Jr. But the Notre Dame defense responded by snuffing out two GT runs and then sacking Pyron, as Rylie Mills and Jaylen Sneed combined to make the play.

This set up a 35-yard field-goal attempt by Aidan Birr that Notre Dame defensive lineman Bryce Young appeared to get a hand on.
