Notre Dame has another big baseball signing.

[autotag]Mason Barth[/autotag] has committed to Notre Dame baseball.

Barth, who plays on the Canes Midwest travel team, is a shortstop and right-handed pitcher from St. John, Indiana.

Like [autotag]Will Jaisle[/autotag], Barth is an Indiana kid staying in the state to play in South Bend. He comes out of Andrean High School.

Barth’s fastball has hit 90 mph.

Along with the athletic Jaisle, this marks two key signings for Notre Dame Fighting Irish baseball within the past two days.

All eyes might be on football and basketball right now, but the baseball season will be here sooner than you think.

Notre Dame baseball lands pitcher/first baseman transfer for 2026

Notre Dame gets a left-handed bat who can pitch.

Notre Dame baseball is getting pitcher/first baseman Sean Scanlon for the 2026 season.

He’ll be coming to the Fighting Irish for his grad year — Scanlon is currently entering his senior year at Holy Cross.

Scanlon throws right-handed and bats lefty, and the 6-3, 220-pound Scanlon has been All-Patriot League Second Team in 2022 and 2023.

He pitched 5.0 innings in two games in 2024, with a 7.20 ERA, 5 K, 2 walks, 7 hits, 4 runs, and a 0-0 record.

Scanlon batted .286 with 2 homers, 6 RBI, 6 hits, 1 double, 6 BB, and 9 strikeouts in 6 games.

His fielding numbers look clean, with no errors in the winter/spring of 2024.

Notre Dame will be happy to welcome this left-handed-hitting first baseman.

Notre Dame baseball mourns loss of former captain Ross Brezovsky

Rest in peace, Ross.

The Notre Dame baseball family has been hit with a tragic loss. Former captain [autotag]Ross Brezovsky[/autotag], who played multiple positions over four seasons with the Irish from 2005 to 2008, has died at the age of 39 after battling cancer for four years.

During his collegiate career, Brezovsky hit .289, slugged 11 home runs and had 130 RBIs while starting 220 games. After graduating from Notre Dame with degrees in economics and computer applications, he was hired by former Irish coach Paul Maineri as the operations director for LSU. Together, the two helped the Tigers win the national championship in 2009 and make them into a national contender for a few years afterwards.

In 2020, a GoFundMe called Hymn of Hope was launched for Brezovsky. It ultimately raised over $79,000.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Brezovsky’s family, especially his wife Kim and his two children. Cancer has taken far too many people from us too early, and hopefully, it will be wiped out someday.

Notre Dame baseball lands a commitment from California pitcher Jackson Campbell

The Irish add a big-time arm to their 2026 class

Notre Dame baseball is having themselves a great start to the recruiting cycle for the 2026 class.

They added to their class on Thursday with a commitment from California pitcher [autotag]Jackson Campbell[/autotag]. The Mater Dei star stands 6-foot, 3-inches and weighs 200-pounds.

He also plays football for the powerhouse, but will stick to the diamond when he moves to the collegiate level. Campbell’s fastball sits around 88 miles-per-hour, while he also has a great slider. He has a solid curveball and change-up as well, and could also play outfield if pitching doesn’t work out for him.

Notre Dame head coach [autotag]Shawn Stiffler[/autotag] has to be extremely happy with Campbell’s commitment, as there typically isn’t as much of a learning curve for players that come out of his region.

Notre Dame baseball lands huge commitment from 2026 Illinois pitcher

The Irish land a big pitching commitment

It’s extremely common for high school baseball players to make early commitments, and Notre Dame was on the winning end of one of those decisions on Friday.

Illinois 2026 right-handed pitcher [autotag]Connor Elenteny[/autotag] made his pledge to the Irish on Thursday night, giving head coach [autotag]Shawn Stiffler[/autotag] an elite arm in the class. The 6-foot, 3-inch and 193-pound star has maxed out his fastball at 93 miles-per-hour, while his secondary stuff is just as impressive.

Elenteny has a four pitch-mix as he also features a change-up, curveball and slider that are all quality pitches. According to Prep Baseball Report, he is the No. 8 player in the state.

Notre Dame has done a great job recruiting the state of Illinois, as there are eight players on the roster who prepped in the Land of Lincoln. You can now add Elenteny to that list.

Check out the time-lapse video of Notre Dame baseball getting new turf at Frank Eck Stadium

Frank Eck got an upgrade

We are still about six months away from when [autotag]Notre Dame baseball[/autotag] gets its season started, but Frank Eck Stadium got its underway this summer.

The home of the Irish had its new turf installed recently, and it wasn’t a quick process. Notre Dame’s social media team capitalized on this opportunity, as they created a time-lapse video of the process.

[autotag]Jake Kline Field[/autotag] has held the name since 1995, and according the Notre Dame’s official athletics website, has had the same FieldTurf since prior to the 2014 season. Typically it’s an eight-year life for that kind of surface, but since the Irish don’t use it on a daily basis, so they got an extra two-years out of it.

Around 12-seconds in, when the video pans out to see the whole field, really shows how much work it went into this upgrade. Jake Kline Field looks great and is ready for the spring.

Former Notre Dame star Niko Kavadas hits 3-run homer for first MLB hit

Talk about a big way to announce your arrival?

Former Notre Dame infielder [autotag]Niko Kavadas[/autotag] made his MLB debut with the Los Angeles Angels on Aug. 16.

Entering the ninth inning of Thursday’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays, he was hitless in his first 14 big-league at-bats. It turned out he merely was lying in the weeds waiting for the right moment to say he’d arrived.

The Angels were trailing, 5-0, with two outs in the ninth innings and runners on first and second. Kavadas, who only has been a designated hitter so far in the bigs, stepped up to the plate. After working a 1-2 count and getting down to the Angels’ final strike, Kavadas swung and, well, look what happened:

This also was a big moment for St. Joseph County according to local sportscaster Chuck Freeby:

The Angels wound up losing, 5-3, but it was a night Kavadas never will forget. Let this be the first of many big moments for him at baseball’s highest level.

Report: Former Notre Dame baseball star Niko Kavadas is headed to the big leagues

Congrats Niko!

It been a whirlwind last few weeks for former Notre Dame star first baseman [autotag]Niko Kavadas[/autotag].

After being drafted by the Boston Red Sox, where he spent his first few professional seasons before being traded in a deadline deal to the Los Angeles Angles.

The change of scenery wasn’t as surprise as Kavadas was blocked by Tristan Casas in Boston and then again with the Angels and Nolan Schanuel. However, it looks like his new team won’t let that stop his ascension, as Chuck Freeby reports that Kavadas will get called up to the major leagues on Friday to make his debut.

While his minor league numbers with his new team don’t look like they’d force the Angels hand, he did enough previous to warrant being called up. Expect Kavadas to primarily be the designated hitter, while getting some opportunities to play his natural position of first base.

Congrats to Niko on achieving his goal of playing at the highest level and continued success there.

Niko Kavadas explains why Notre Dame was the perfect place for him

The South Bend native always knew where he wanted to go

Many of us are rooting for former Notre Dame baseball star 1st baseman [autotag]Niko Kavadas[/autotag].

The slugger was involved in a trade deadline deal, sending him from the Boston Red Sox to the Los Angeles Angles. Kavadas grew up in South Bend, while claiming that he was an Irish fan from the moment he was born.

His want to be part of Notre Dame translated over to his high school recruitment, where “he begged and pleaded the staff to come watch him play.” It clearly was a good choice for both parties, as Kavadas set the all-time season record for home runs during his senior campaign which he led the Irish to a Super Regional matchup against Mississippi State.

Notre Dame would fall to the eventual champions, but not before Kavadas had firmed planted his name into the history books and forever in our hearts. Since the move to the Angels organization, the power-hitter has struggled hitting only .114 with no homers and just 4 hits.
