Armando Bacot makes UNC basketball history in win over Florida State

UNC basketball standout Armando Bacot made program history once again in the win over Florida State on Saturday afternoon.

Armando Bacot continues to etch his name into the University of North Carolina basketball record books.

In his fifth season, Bacot continues to climb the record books in points scored, rebounds, double-doubles, and more. His latest feat on Saturday was something that no North Carolina player has ever done, however.

During the win over Florida State, Bacot didn’t stuff the stat sheet like he usually does but he was one of North Carolina’s best defenders. He had 5 points and 4 rebounds in the game and in the process became the first player in UNC basketball history to record 1,000 defensive rebounds in a career.

In his fifth and final year with UNC, Bacot has helped the Tar Heels to that 9-0 start in ACC play, their best since 2001. He hasn’t had an All-American-type year as of yet but he’s still contributing in a big way, including defensively.

If UNC can even get a little more from Bacot on the offensive end, they will be in good shape for a deep run in the NCAA Tournament.

Former UNC forward Justin McKoy commits to Hawaii

Former UNC basketball forward Justin McKoy has committed to Hawaii.

The transfer portal this offseason has already been a very active one in college basketball and that’s going to continue over the next few weeks as well. For the North Carolina Tar Heels, they are losing six players to the portal, and now have to fill some needs.

On Tuesday, the second of those six portal entrants has found a new home.

Forward Justin McKoy announced on Twitter that he is committed to Hawaii and will continue his college career there. After two years at Virginia and then the last two at North Carolina, McKoy is now set to head to Honolulu to finish his career.

McKoy appeared in 41 total games in two years at North Carolina, starting one game with that coming in the season finale against Duke this season.

After appearing in 30 games in 2021-22, McKoy’s playing time decreased to just 11 last season. Finding a new fit and a place where he could earn more playing time was a key point for McKoy to enter the transfer portal.

McKoy averaged 1.7 points, and 1.2 rebounds while shooting 46.2 percent from the field in his limited playing time this season.

Fellow forward Tyler Nickel committed to Virginia Tech last week.
