Newly offered recruit set to visit UNC Basketball program twice

Acaden Lewis will visit the UNC Basketball program for two visits.

The North Carolina Tar Heels entered the race for four-star guard Acaden Lewis recently, offering the talented recruit after watching him play. And now they will get the chance to impress him not once but twice.

Per Joe Tipton of On3, Lewis will take an unofficial visit to UNC on June 27th. He will also take an official visit to the program this Fall from October 4-6th.  That’s significant news as UNC looks to land their first commitment in the 2025 recruiting class.

Lewis is starting to draw a lot of attention in his recruitment due to his recent play. After Hubert Davis and the staff watched him, they contacted the recruit and then an offer came.

He has a total of 27 offers in his recruitment including from Kentucky, Auburn, Indiana, UNC and Virginia among others. With his recruitment heating up this Summer, more visits and interest will come for the Washington, DC native.

Leiws is ranked No. 34 nationally, the No. 6 combo guard and No. 1 player in DC per the 247Sports recruiting rankings.

Jarin Stevenson talks about playing against UNC

Alabama forward Jarin Stevenson talks about facing off against the UNC basketball program in the Sweet 16.

When North Carolina and Alabama meet in Thursday’s Sweet 16 game in Los Angeles, Crimson Tide forward Jarin Stevenson will face off against a program his very familiar with.

Stevenson grew up near the Chapel Hill campus and made a few different trips there during his recruitment. He knows coaches and players but opted to pick Alabama over the Tar Heel back in the Summer of 2023 and then reclassify to start playing right away. Now, he faces off against the program that recruited him hard.

“I watched quite a bit of North Carolina basketball,” Stevenson said. “I was 10 minutes away from their campus. So I watched quite a bit. I know a lot of their coaches, a lot of their players. Yeah, it’s definitely surreal, just a full-circle moment for sure playing North Carolina.”

In addition to living close to the university, Stevenson’s mother played at North Carolina and his father played against the Tar Heels in college. The Tar Heels were considered the heavy favorites to land him before he went to Alabama, making a bit of a shocking decision in the end.

But he had his reasons with the biggest one being that he could make a bigger impact right away at:

“I felt like I could make a bigger impact here,” Stevenson said. “I love the offense here, with it playing fast and stuff I thought I could improve here more. That was the main decision. I feel like I’m getting better, just different things, seeing the ball. I feel like it’s going to show, especially next year.”

“It was a hard decision. I love the school, for sure, Carolina’s a great school. Getting to know the players and coaches, and seeing the facilities, it’s a great school. It was a hard decision.”

The Tar Heels are hoping they can spoil Stevenson’s plans months after he spoiled what could have been a big recruiting win.

UNC Basketball vs. UVA: Game preview, info, prediction and more

UNC Basketball vs. Virginia: Game preview, info, prediction and more.

The North Carolina Tar Heels return to the court Saturday night for an ACC meeting with No. 6 Virginia.

This game is the second meeting between the two programs, with the Cavaliers defending their home court in a 65-58 victory. However, despite the first outcome, UNC enters this game with some advantages. Armando Bacot tallied one minute of playing time in the first game after leaving with an injury.

The other key advantage is that this game will occur on North Carolina’s court. A place where the Tar Heels have faired well, with an 11-2 home record.

UNC has been on the wrong end of media attention with concerns that the preseason No.1 team could fail to make the NCAA tournament. North Carolina struggled this year in the ACC, going 9-8 in the conference.

This game will significantly affect North Carolina and their Joe Lunardi ESPN bracketology status. Ranking No. 71, North Carolina is one of the teams listed not to make the NCAA tournament.

A win against a top-10 team in the nation would certainly help their chances to make the big dance.

UNC Basketball vs. Notre Dame: Game preview, info, prediction and more

We look at our preview for Wednesday’s matchup between the UNC Basketball program and Notre Dame.

The North Carolina Tar Heels are officially in the danger zone with their hopes of making it to the NCAA Tournament.

After another disappointing loss that resulted in two blown chances for a Quad 1 win, UNC is 0-8 in Quad 1 games and is team No. 69 in Joe Lunardi’s latest mock bracket. With four games left, they need to win as many of those as they can and they need to also avoid the bad losses.

Those bad losses would be road games at Notre Dame and Florida State.

On Wednesday, the Tar Heels begin the stretch of four games to close out the season with a trip to South Bend to take on the Fighting Irish. Mike Brey’s team has also seen their struggles this year, entering this game at 10-17 overall and 2-14 in ACC play. Notre Dame has really struggled in conference play but has played well of late.

Last week, they lost to Duke by four and Virginia by twp, both on the road as they almost pulled the upsets. They even had a shot to beat the Cavaliers with a last-season three-point attempt that fell short.

This isn’t a team that UNC can take lightly.

For UNC, they really need to come out and get this win and start to build some momentum going into March. You can say this is the start of their tournament.
