Merry Christmas from the NFL, Pittsburgh Steelers, Kansas City Chiefs, and all football fans alike.

The league has continued to spread the Christmas cheer this year. For one of the NFL’s matchups on the holiday the Chiefs (13-1) will visit the Steelers (10-5) in an important AFC clash.

Both sides have locked up their places in the upcoming postseason, but there is still plenty at stake for both sides.

Kansas City would essentially secure back-to-back bye weeks with a win in Pittsburgh. The Chiefs would earn the No. 1 spot in the playoffs which would be critical to heal any bumps and bruises, which is especially huge when quarterback Patrick Mahomes is on the injury report.

Meanwhile, the Steelers are still tied for first place in the AFC North. However, after losing to their huge rivals in the Baltimore Ravens in Week 16, they’ll need this one to stay atop the division.

The game kicks off on Wednesday, Dec. 25, at 1:00 p.m. at Acrisure Stadium.

Don’t miss out on your chance to see it in person. Act soon to catch this epic clash as only limited tickets are still available.

Steelers vs Chiefs injury report: Latest updates, news for Week 17

Latest updates from the Pittsburgh Steelers injury report, including George Pickens and Joey Porter, Jr., ahead of a Week 17 game vs. the Chiefs.

The Pittsburgh Steelers face a tough challenge as they host the 14-1 Kansas City Chiefs on Christmas Day. This holiday matchup is shaping up to be a key test for the Steelers, who are playing their third game in 10 days and battling to solidify their playoff position.

Facing Patrick Mahomes and the high-powered Chiefs offense is never easy, but Pittsburgh’s defense, anchored by T.J. Watt and Cameron Heyward, will look to make a statement.

Offensively, the Steelers’ success will hinge on Russell Wilson, whose declined play has lost Pittsburgh its last two matchups.

Special teams could also play a big role, boasting capable kickers in Chris Boswell and Harrison Butker. While the Chiefs are 3-point favorites on the road, the Steelers are 5-1 at Acrisure Stadium.

Here’s a look at Monday’s injury and practice participation report for Chiefs week:

George Pickens injury update

On Sunday’s non-practice report, George Pickens was an estimated limited participant but practiced fully on Tuesday. Pickens has missed the last three matchups after injuring his hamstring during practice ahead of the Week 14 dust-up with the Cleveland Browns.

Joey Porter Jr. injury update

Joey Porter Jr. suffered a knee injury during Pittsburgh’s Week 16 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. The injury occurred in the second half, forcing Porter to leave the game and not return. Porter will not likely recover in time for the quick turnaround on Christmas Day.

DeShon Elliott injury update

Pittsburgh’s secondary sorely missed DeShon Elliott’s presence in Weeks 15 and 16. Elliott is second only to Patrick Queen in tackles with 96, and the Steelers have missed a whopping 36 tackles since he injured his hamstring in the Week 14 victory over the Cleveland Browns.

Falcons linebacker has message for Cowboys QB Cooper Rush

Falcons LB Arnold Ebiketie has message for Cooper Rush after Cowboys’ win over Buccaneers

The Atlanta Falcons received an early Christmas gift from the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday evening. After defeating the New York Giants, 34-7, the Falcons got to sit back and watch as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were upset by the Cowboys in prime time.

The Buccaneers dropped to 8-7, losing their division lead with two games left in the season. And just like that, Atlanta is back atop the NFC South.

While Falcons head coach Raheem Morris said he wouldn’t be watching Sunday night’s game, his players enjoyed every second. Falcons outside linebacker Arnold Ebiketie celebrated Dallas’ win by thanking Cowboys quarterback Cooper Rush on Twitter.

“Cooper Rush I appreciate you my boy,” posted Ebiketie.

Ebiektie, who’s been on a tear since the bye, recorded his fifth sack of the season during Sunday’s win over the Giants. The Falcons’ pass rush has come alive over the past month. After recording just 10 sacks in the first 11 games, Atlanta’s defense has racked up 16 sacks in its last four games.

“They’ve cracked the code,” Raheem Morris said about the defensive turnaround. The Falcons will need their pass rush to show up in order to defeat the Washington Commanders in Week 17.

Commanders rookie Jayden Daniels has lit up the league over his first 15 games, passing for 3,303 yards, 22 touchdowns and eight interceptions. The former LSU star is much tougher to bring down than Drew Lock or Desmond Ridder.

Sunday’s game starts at 8:20 p.m. ET on NBC’s “Sunday Night Football.”

NFL analysts impressed by Falcons QB Michael Penix’s first start

NFL analysts were impressed with Falcons rookie Michael Penix Jr.’s first start

The Atlanta Falcons have to be happy with what they saw from rookie quarterback Michael Penix Jr. in his first NFL start. While the numbers don’t jump out, Penix’s decisiveness, arm talent and pocket mobility were on display during Sunday’s 34-7 win over the New York Giants.

The Falcons were criticized for drafting Penix with the No. 8 overall pick after signing Kirk Cousins to a four-year $180 million contract, but the decision continues to look better as time goes by.

Many around the NFL were impressed with the Falcons rookie’s performance against the Giants. Here’s a look at how those in the media reacted to Penix’s debut.

ESPN’s Mina Kimes

NFL Network’s Brian Baldinger

CBS Sports’ Mike Renner

Former Falcons QB Kurt Benkert

Former Panthers LB Luke Kuechly

SI’s Conor Orr

Not only did the Falcons win Penix’s first NFL start, but the Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost to the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night to put Atlanta back atop the NFC South.

Penix will face off against Washington Commanders rookie Jayden Daniels in prime time next Sunday in a game that could impact the NFC playoff standings.

Broncos are underdogs vs. Bengals in Week 17

The Bengals are considered 3-point favorites against the Broncos in Week 17.

Coming off a 34-27 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, the Denver Broncos are considered 3-point underdogs against the Cincinnati Bengals going into Week 17, according to BetMGM. The over/under for total points scored between the two teams has been set at 48.0.

The Bengals (7-8) are coming off a 24-6 victory over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. Cincinnati’s playoff hopes are now alive going into their crucial home game against Denver on Saturday afternoon.

The Broncos (9-6) and Bengals are competing for a Wild Card seed in the AFC. The winner of Saturday’s showdown will have a head-to-head advantage, but Denver only needs one win to clinch a playoff spot. Cincinnati would need to win out and have the Broncos lose out.

Denver leads the all-time series against the Bengals 22-11, but Cincinnati won the most recent meeting 15-10 at home in 2021. The Broncos are currently the seventh and final playoff seed in the AFC.

Is Derek Carr playing today? Injury updates for Saints quarterback

Saints quarterback Derek Carr is dealing with a non-throwing hand injury. Here are the latest updates regarding his Week 16 status.

The New Orleans Saints were without their starting quarterback Derek Carr in Week 15 against the Washington Commanders after an injury he suffered in Week 14 against the New York Giants. Carr went down late in that matchup with a non-throwing hand injury, which was later revealed to be multiple fractures in his left hand, alongside being placed in concussion protocol for a time.

Here are the current updates on Carr, his status for Week 16, as well as the remainder of the season:

Derek Carr injury update

The current status of Derek Carr is that he will be out for the Week 16 matchup between the New Orleans Saints and Green Bay Packers, as he continues to push the timeline to try and potentially return this season. As of now however, the timeline is unclear, as reports conflict about the potential for his return, which we will discuss in the next section. The current status of his hand is that it requires more recovery time before he can be sent out onto the field, so he will remain out against the Packers and evaluate where he stands before the next two matchups.

How long will Derek Carr be out?

The current timeline we know regarding Carr is hazy at best, with NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reporting that it is “very unlikely” for the Saints signal caller to return this season, and that he is at least a few weeks away from being able to withstand contact.

The other reports we have had come out believe he may return this season however, with Nick Underhill of Neworleans.football reporting that the “book is not yet definitively closed on Derek Carr’s season” and that if he is able to get his motion back, he would be able to possibly come back for some of the remaining season.

The word directly from interim head coach Darren Rizzi is a mix of the two, as he was quoted via WWL Radio saying, “We’re just gonna have to go along and when he (Carr) gets to the point where he can function well enough to play in the game, I know…he wants to play and when he can, he will.”

Saints quarterback depth chart

The current Saints quarterback room is pretty similar to how it has been in recent weeks, with the two younger players as well as the addition of one veteran for posterity sake just incase anything goes wrong. As things stand right now, the current quarterback room consists of:

  • Spencer Rattler
  • Jake Haener
  • Ben DiNucci

In Week 15, Haener got the start for the first half and did not particularly look spectacular in his playing time. So, during the break, the Saints came out and ran Spencer Rattler for the second half, and he was able to bring the Saints within a failed two-point conversion of taking down the Commanders. With that said, Rattler will get the start this week.
