The new Professor Layton game finally has a fresh trailer

Level-5 debuted a first-look at the new Professor Layton, over six months after first announcing the puzzle game, and it looks promising

Level-5 published a first look at the new Professor Layton, over six months after first announcing the puzzle game at a Nintendo Direct, and it looks promising. The Professor Layton and the New World of Steam trailer shows Layton and his protege Luke reunited once more after an unspecified amount of time passed since the end of Unwound Future, but rather than focusing on story beats, the trailer highlights what Layton does best – puzzles.

Or, a puzzle, to be more exact. Luke and Layton need to enter an eccentric genius’ workshop by finding the right door in a sea of fakes. An interesting and potentially exciting difference between this and previous Layton puzzles is that it takes place in the environment around the duo.

Puzzles usually take you to a separate screen that only sometimes bears relevance to the area you’re in, and while that approach allows for more flexibility in puzzle design, it certainly doesn’t lead to the kind of immersive experience you’d (presumably) get if the entire world was a puzzle.

Luke takes notes directly on-screen in this puzzle, instead of having to activate a separate memo overlay first. That makes sense given the lack of dual-screen platforms since Nintendo retired the 3DS. Level-5 hasn’t actually said what console or devices New World of Steam will release on, though considering it debuted during a Nintendo Direct, the Switch is a pretty safe choice. The studio launched a few Layton games for mobile devices, so it may launch on Android and iOS as well.

Professor Layton and the New World of Steam is planned for release sometime in 2025.

The November Nintendo Indie World showcase has come and gone, and while there’s still no news of Hollow Knight Silksong, Nintendo and its publishing partners highlighted plenty of promising indie games to the Switch. Wayforward is bringing back a long-lost Game Boy Advance game, there’s a circus murder mystery, a life-sim with furry characters, hiking games, geckoes, and a whole lot more. Most of the games shown are coming to Switch in the next six months, with a few demos available now, so you won’t have to wait long if you see something you like.

Super Mario Wonder Search Party Puzzling Park guide

This Super Mario Wonder Puzzling Park Search Party guide shows where to find each Puzzling Park Flower Token quickly

[anyclip-media thumbnail=”undefined” playlistId=”undefined” content=”PHNjcmlwdCBzcmM9Imh0dHBzOi8vcGxheWVyLnBvcHRvay5jb20vYW55Y2xpcC13aWRnZXQvbHJlLXdpZGdldC9wcm9kL3YxL3NyYy9scmUuanMiIGRhdGEtYXI9IjE2OjkiIHB1Ym5hbWU9IjE5OTgiIHdpZGdldG5hbWU9IjAwMTZNMDAwMDJVMEIxa1FBRl9NODMzNSI+Cjwvc2NyaXB0Pg==”][/anyclip-media]

Clearing the Super Mario Wonder Search Party at Puzzling Park is a must if you want to collect all the world’s Wonder Seeds – and you will want to do that, since some of Wonder‘s biggest challenges only pop up after you collect every Seed. Puzzling Park’s Search Party is pretty much what it says on the label, a side area where you, well, search. The idea is to search with an online multiplayer group to help you find clues, but if you’d rather just get right to it, that’s where we come in.

This Puzzling Park Search Party guide shows where to find each Puzzling Park Flower Token so you can get your Wonder Seed fast.

All Super Mario Wonder Special World entrances

In this guide, we explain where to find every Super Mario Bros. Wonder Special World entrance and what you need to do to unlock them

[anyclip-media thumbnail=”undefined” playlistId=”undefined” content=”PHNjcmlwdCBzcmM9Imh0dHBzOi8vcGxheWVyLnBvcHRvay5jb20vYW55Y2xpcC13aWRnZXQvbHJlLXdpZGdldC9wcm9kL3YxL3NyYy9scmUuanMiIGRhdGEtYXI9IjE2OjkiIHB1Ym5hbWU9IjE5OTgiIHdpZGdldG5hbWU9IjAwMTZNMDAwMDJVMEIxa1FBRl9NODMzNSI+Cjwvc2NyaXB0Pg==”][/anyclip-media]

Nintendo hid the Super Mario Wonder Special World entrances pretty darn well. Like Super Mario World’s Star World, Wonder’s Special World entrances take some extra skill and sleuthing to find. Each of Wonder’s six worlds has a Secret World entrance, and there’s a seventh in the Petal Isles overworld. Some involve tracking down a hidden exit, while others only appear when you’re using a Wonder Seed. Finding all Secret World entrances opens Wonder’s biggest challenges, so if you want to see everything that the latest Super Mario game has to offer, plan on tracking them down.

Ranking the best 2D Super Mario Bros. box art from mid to inspired

The 2D Super Mario Bros. box art quality has had its fair share of ups and downs over the decades, and we’ve sorted out the best of the best

[anyclip-media thumbnail=”undefined” playlistId=”undefined” content=”PHNjcmlwdCBzcmM9Imh0dHBzOi8vcGxheWVyLnBvcHRvay5jb20vYW55Y2xpcC13aWRnZXQvbHJlLXdpZGdldC9wcm9kL3YxL3NyYy9scmUuanMiIGRhdGEtYXI9IjE2OjkiIHB1Ym5hbWU9IjE5OTgiIHdpZGdldG5hbWU9IjAwMTZNMDAwMDJVMEIxa1FBRl9NODMzNSI+Cjwvc2NyaXB0Pg==”][/anyclip-media]

The 2D Super Mario Bros. box art quality has had its fair share of ups and downs over the decades since the first NES game launched, much like the games themselves. The olden days of pared down, brutally minimalistic art for international releases thankfully gave way to something more colorful and fun, though even some of the more recent Mario art leaves something to be desired. There’s only so many times you can create something cover art for Super Mario Bros. U before it gets a little stale, after all.

We’ve sifted through and put them all in order in our 2D Super Mario Bros. box art list, but if you’re looking for something more game-flavored, check out our Super Mario game rankings as well.

Ranking the best Super Mario games from worst to incredible

No Mario game is bad, but the best Super Mario games are the ones where Nintendo’s creativity and genius for level design are on display

[anyclip-media thumbnail=”undefined” playlistId=”undefined” content=”PHNjcmlwdCBzcmM9Imh0dHBzOi8vcGxheWVyLnBvcHRvay5jb20vYW55Y2xpcC13aWRnZXQvbHJlLXdpZGdldC9wcm9kL3YxL3NyYy9scmUuanMiIGRhdGEtYXI9IjE2OjkiIHB1Ym5hbWU9IjE5OTgiIHdpZGdldG5hbWU9IjAwMTZNMDAwMDJVMEIxa1FBRl9NODMzNSI+Cjwvc2NyaXB0Pg==”][/anyclip-media]

The caveat when talking about the best Super Mario games is that there really is no bad Super Mario game. Over the course of three decades and more, Nintendo’s flagship series has seen its ups and downs, but even the blandest, most uninspired of the New Super Mario games still has the power to delight and excite. When the series is at its best, however, is when Nintendo’s knack for clever stage design and creative worlds shines through.

Our list of the best Super Mario games focuses on the series’ mainline entries, so there’s no Mario Maker or Super Mario RPG here.
